My favorite T. Kingfisher book is A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking. It’s a lesser known book by her. It’s by far my favorite of hers I’ve read so far. It’s a fun cozy fantasy. I highly suggest you check it out.
You should definitely do this video again with the other auto buy authors you have in the cup. Also If you want more Alix E. Harrow books I would recommend The Ten Thousand Doors of January. The Ten Thousand Doors of January is a fun magical realism book. You should try it I think you’d like it.
The scream that came out of me when you said you were watching Murder She Wrote, let me tell you 😂 I own the entire DVD box set! It's my #1 go-to cozy show and the only show with over 8 seasons I've ever watched the entirety of. It's also one you can put down for a while and come back to without any issues because it never felt the need to add a million over arching plotlines. Hope you continue enjoying!!! Angela Lansbury was such a treasure
They actually released many books under the pseudonym Jessica Fletcher and were the books ‘Jessica’ was writing in the series. They did the same for Castle.
The Sworn Soldier books are a good choice for spooky season if you like her writing. She's my favorite fantasy romance author, too. (I also love one of her children's series, written under her given name.)
When I was little I used to watch Murder She Wrote, and various other shows like Passions, Fraser, I Dream of Genie, The Nanny, with my sister and aunt every Friday when my parents would go out grocery shopping. We also watched a lot of Halloween classics during spooky season.
I read T.Kingfisher's What moves the dead and I thought it was interesting. Its a retelling of The House of Usher story and some of the vivid imagery is truly unsettling.
My autobuy author is Leigh Bardugo. There have been others but she is the one that has been there for a while. I have read some T. Kingfisher's stuff. I have mixed feelings on her as an author, in particular her horrors, but she has a lot out so if you are really into her work you have a lot of options to pick from. Enjoy. I plan on giving her short stories a try next so maybe look into those. She also has a sleeping beauty retelling called Thornhedge, in which she follows the fairy who cursed sleeping beauty. It is another novella but it may be worth looking into.
Jesse! I completely agree with Spells For Forgetting. You nailed it! I was obsessed with the scenery, the writing style, the beginning was sooo good! But I was also like ‘where is the magic? I didn’t realise this was a murder story?’ (I didn’t read the back) 🙃
For me, it’s Cassandra Clare... I fell in love with the Shadowhunter series when I was younger and time and time again, the books bring me back to reading. I own at least 20 of her books and I still come back to them from time to time. The next autobuy author was almost V.E.Schwab after readind Gallant, but I just can't get through her other books.
You should DEFINITELY read more T. Kingfisher!!! I've read almost her entire backlist and everything is fantastic. Her fantasy romances (like Swordheart and The Saint of Steel series) are also amazing!
The great thing about Murder She Wrote is that you don't really have to watch them in order! @Pushinguproses has a really fun recap series for some episodes. She loves MSW so it's really fun to watch. My auto buy author is Richard Osman. His writing style is so fun and intentional!
Murder She Wrote also has a recent YA series with Jessica's niece and, honestly, it kinda slaps. It looked like it would be cheesy, but I honestly enjoyed it. Third book is on preorder right now.
My two autobuys off the top of my head are Alexis Hall (wrote Boyfriend Material and A Lady for a Duke) and FT Lukens (wrote Spellbound and in Deeper Waters).
T. Kingfisher is an auto-buy for me, too. Nettle and Bone was my first and absolutely favorite. I recently read Paladin's Grace for a book club and it was 5 stars for me. I loved every minute of it and would die for those characters.
My auto buy author is Garth Nix. His current book series is: The Left-handed Book Sellers of London, which is great, and the audio book is wonderful as well.
I also didn't like Spells For Forgetting for a lot of reasons but the two that stick with me the most is how absolutely frustrated I was with how there was basically no real or good reason at all for everyone to suspect August so much, and that the final reveal at the end had me yelling "Are you joking?!" cause it was so stupid to me
I've read a few by T Kingfisher, Thornhedge and A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking are my favorites. Wizard's Guide is pretty much loved by all, but Thornhedge is not most people's favorite of hers but I loved the twisted tale on Sleeping Beauty. I've also read Nettle & Bone and A House with Good Bones. They are both 4 stars so still very strong. I plan to read them all at some point! Love her books!
I’m an adult, but my top autobuy/autoborrow authors are writers of MG fiction. 1. Christopher Paul Curtis who is a MG historical fiction author (I have read all of or nearly all of his books) 2. Lois Lowry who is a well known children’s author spanning many genres (I have read many of her books) I could list more MG authors, but I’ll leave it there. As far as adult novels…I read a debut this summer called “You’d Look Better As A Ghost” by Joanna Wallace (a thriller filled with dark humor). If she writes another book, I will definitely grab it as soon as it’s available. And I love Murder She Wrote!
Murder She Wrote is one of my ultimate cozy comfort shows, so I'm glad you enjoyed the first episode! My auto-buy authors are Tamora Pierce (always and forever, no matter what), Patricia C. Wrede, Aiden Thomas, H.E. Edgmon, and Seanan McGuire. I get why you and others don't like "Spells for Forgetting." I loved it because it was mostly vibes and atmosphere with just that hint of magic running throughout -and, of course, the writing style. Plus, the actual last few lines ended on an eerie note that I liked. I still need to read a T. Kingfisher book, but I'm slightly intimidated by how many books they have. Alix E. Harrow became an auto-buy after I read "Starling House" and "The Ten Thousand Doors of January." "The Once and Future Witches" is on my TBR for fall, so I'm hoping to get to it soon!
I think you'd really enjoy the Sworn Soldier series, or at least the first book, What Moves the Dead (that's the only one I've read in the series aka the only one I can actually recommend). Perfect short little horror novella that delivers exquisite spooky vibes. Perfect for reading in one sitting on a chilly evening with some candles 😎
Graphic novel/manga/comic recommendations: Witch Hat Atelier by Kamome Shirahama (manga) The Apothecary Diaries by Natsu Hyuuga (manga) The Fox Maidens by Robin Ha (graphic novel) Estranged by Ethan M. Aldridge (graphic novel) Snapdragon by Kat Leyh (graphic novel) Monstress by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda (comic series) Alpi, the Soul Sender by Rona (manga) Rune: The Tale of a Thousand Faces by Carlos Sanchez (graphic novel) Cosmoknights by Hannah Templer (graphic novel/webcomic) Fabulous Beasts by You Shou Yan (webcomic) Drifting Dragons by Taku Kuwabara (manga) Talli, Daughter of the Moon by Sourya Sihachakr (graphic novel series) Roll Call by Molly Knox Ostertag and Xanthe Bouma (graphic novel) I don't know if any of these are up your alley, but these are some of my favorites.
My dad loves murder she wrote and I don't mind watching an episode here and there when it's on the tv! I have read some t kingfisher before and had a really good time with it! I really liked what moves the dead in particular. I also have a copy of a sorceress comes to call and you've made me look forward to picking it up all the more.
Murder She Wrote is a "modern" take on Agatha Christie's Mrs Marple❤. Another good show is Monk, that is a "modern" take on Hercule Poirot 🥰. Also, so happy you found T Kingfisher; she is one of my all-time favorite authors, she has wonderful middle grade books, horror, and fantasy. I wish you would have read The Once and Future Witches, I have it on my shelf and would loved to have known what you think of it.
Love T. Kingfisher! Nettle and Bone is amazing and my favorite. But also second those who said A Wizards Guide to Defensive Baking but bear in mind that it is middle grade.
My autobuy authors at the moment (who aren't solely within the romance genre) are S.A. Chakraborty, and B.B. Alston. I think I will soon be adding Tamora Pierce to the list
After reading A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking (which quickly became a comfort read), T Kingfisher became an auto-buy author for me. Whenever I see their audiobooks on Audible, I buy them regardless of the premise. Other auto-buy authors would probably include Sangu Mandanna ("The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches") and Isabel Ibanez ("What the River Knows"). Nicola and David Yoon used to be auto-buy authors but a couple of their more recent books did not hit me as hard as the books that I loved from them did. Until recently, I did not have any auto-buy authors, but I do have a lot of auto-buy narrators. I primarily consume my books through audiobooks and if I fall in love with a narrator's performance book after book, I am more likely to pick up other audiobooks they have narrated. Are there any auto-buy narrators that anyone here follows?
i'm so happy to see you loved t kingfisher!! she's an auto-read author for me as well and over the last year or so i've been working my way through her backlog (which is quite extensive...how does someone write so many books) and they all have been so great it's been such a fun experience!! as far as where to go, i either recommend the sworn soldiers books if you're looking for something in the horror genre, or i recommend her "the world of the white rat" series which is composed of a few smaller series that are all connected if you want more fantasy/romance!! ((if you go that direction and want to read chronologically within the story start with the clocktaur wards duology, then swordheart which is currently a standalone, and then the saint of steel series. you don't HAVE to read them this way, i didn't because i didn't know when i started the saint of steel series that there were more before it and didn't feel like i was missing anything! so you can start with any of the series and still have a good experience IMO but i wish someone had warned me about this before i read paladin's grace :-) ))
For spooky season comic, I personally loved The low, low woods by Carmen Maria Machado and DaNi. The whole series is available as a slim bind up and it's sooo good. Content warning for SA though.
I read one of T. Kingfisher's books The Seventh Bride I liked all of it but the ending but I do want to read more from her. It's more of an auto read author and buy later on but Bridget Colins, A.J. Hackwith, Keigo Higashino, and Sarah Penner are all authors when I see they have written things I get from the library.
Books are important even if they are digital. A room without books is like a body without a soul. If there is anything more sacred than another human being, it is a book.
A sorcerer comes to call audiobook is really good! I did enjoy The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adriane Young. Love how she writes about nature almost similar to Rebecca Ross like you said. Rebecca Ross is just amazing though. Adriane Young seems more soft sci fi more than magical.
I only read 2 things by Alix E. Harrow - Starling House (meh) and The Six Deaths of the Saint (absolutely loved it). So hit and miss for me as well. The T. Kingfisher book was last month in the Owlcrate book - after reading Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking I am quite excited for that (even though the Wizard is middle grade)
Oh my god I love Murder, She Wrote! My mom always watched it when I was a kid and they still show reruns on tv. It’s one of those cozy nostalgia shows for me!
T. kingfisher has something for everyone. Horror? Yes. the Twisted Ones is scary, atmospheric, has a great dog! The Sworn Soldier series is great and atmospheric with mythology and classic stories retold. And there will be more in that series, I think. Romantasy? Try the Paladin series. It even ties in mystery and some horror elements (really all her books have some horror elements). More fairytales? Nettle and Bone and The Seventh Bride. Kid stories?? The Dragonbreath series is amazing. And Hamster Princess. She writes the comic Digger also. Seriously, she is amazing.
autobuy authors: CS Lewis, Tessa Afshar, Agatha Christie, and William Shakespeare, for some reason. I have such random taste in books I honestly can't tell what it is, but those four are the only ones i don't need to read the plot to consider buying
Just so you know sky in the deep is a duology. It may not have worked for you becuse you didn’t read the second one. The second book is called The girl the sea gave back. Also the only book I have read in this video is spells for forgetting. I liked it a lot. I rated it 4 stars. It was a little slow but otherwise I enjoyed it a lot.
My autobut authors are Ali Hazelwood, S.T Gibson, and Katee Robert (who makes it easy for me because members of her patreon for like $12 get her book shipped to them)
T. Kingfisher is hit and miss for me. I started off strong with Hollow Places, which I liked (4 stars), then came Nettle and Bone (DNF), followed by What Moves the Dead and What Feasts at Night (both just okay or even meh, they're just too short for any real substance).
we love murder she wrote, it's a great show to listen to while doing things! Especially coz we live in Maine XD so hot tip the accents on the show are notoriously terrible lol
I personally would recommend anything by Brian K. Vaughn. I love Y: The Last Man series and am quite enjoying Saga. Obviously you are unlikely to get them in single issue format but the bind ups are worth it imho. 😊
I love t. kingfisher so much, yet I always want more. her saints if steel series is murder mystery fantasy with a touch of romance? amazing and the religion building. I want to belong to the temple of the white rat. just perfect
I don't vibe well with Alix E. Harrow but I understand why people like her. My auto-buy authors include Melissa Bashardoust, Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, Anna-Marie McLemore, Carlo Rovelli (non-fiction), and a few manga authors/artists. :)
I enjoyed A Sorceress Comes to call but its not my favorite that I've read from T Kingfisher so far (that would be Nettle and Bone). When I was a little girl I used to watch Murder She Wrote with my Nana all the time, when every I'm missing her I put down an episode or two. I enjoyed the Fractured Fables duology but I preferred her Ten Thousand Doors of January (but I am going to pick up the omnibus of FF)
If you're willing to give Adrienne Young another chance you should try Fable. It's easily the best one of her books I've read and the sequel Namesake is good too. I felt the same about Spells for Forgetting. It's atmospheric but underwhelming. Her other adult novel The Unmaking of June Farrow is better, but not by a lot. Definitely go with Fable.
I love T. Kingfisher! Nettle and Bone is my favorite from them. I like Adrienne Young but I really didn't like Spells For Forgetting. It was just a lot of drama over some apples
I've read one of Alix E Harrow's adult novels, ten thousand doors of january and unfortunately it was such a let down for me, but i do think it would have slapped hard as a novella, which feels like the opposite issue to what you have hahaha! She has really pretty writing but I didn't get much out of it - a case of great concept, less than great execution! I'd like to try another but i'm not sure which i should try!
Great episode - super fun! I have an author I will always buy on day one: Richard Osman. I just inhaled his new book in two days. Also, a manga recommendation: Tomodachi x Monster
I love A Spindle Splintered, but I agree with you about the pop culture element. I thought those lines disrupted the flow, and yes brought me out of the book. And I don't want to say that I found those lines cringey, but I did and I especially did with the reference to the meme. But what I loved was how it gave respect to the story itself and the character of sleeping beauty in particular. I do warn people that the book does go a bit off the rails at times, you may know the scenes I am referring to. I think the main character is a bit more mature in the sequel though.
I recommend the graphic novel Cursed Princess Club since it also talks about the steretype of villains and princesses.
Omg i binge read the entire comic in a few days after i saw it finished and LOVED it. Can't wait to collect the physical copies 🫶
I love this series! I'm just starting volume 2❤
Junji Ito can’t even get a new book out before I buy it.
They announce it and it’s already been preordered lol
I love that!! I need to read more by him.
@@jessethereader I live in constant fear that one day there will be no more new stories 😭
My favorite T. Kingfisher book is A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking. It’s a lesser known book by her. It’s by far my favorite of hers I’ve read so far. It’s a fun cozy fantasy. I highly suggest you check it out.
I love this one too!!
This! Yes! 100% yes! That is also my favorite book by her as well as my favorite read of 2023
Yes!!
Or The Raven and The Reindeer! Or The Seventh Bride!
Sorry, I love Kingfisher
You should definitely do this video again with the other auto buy authors you have in the cup. Also If you want more Alix E. Harrow books I would recommend The Ten Thousand Doors of January. The Ten Thousand Doors of January is a fun magical realism book. You should try it I think you’d like it.
My newest auto-buy author is Andrew Joseph White. I am SO excited that Lilly Wachowski is producing an animated film based on one of his books.
She’s *WHAT*? 😃
@@rosiespencer8081 Yes! She's adapting Hell Followed With Us.
Omg same!! With Compound Fracture he solidified himself as an auto-buy author for me!
Murder she wrote is so fun!
The scream that came out of me when you said you were watching Murder She Wrote, let me tell you 😂
I own the entire DVD box set!
❤ murder she wrote! I used to watch it with my grandma.
For T. Kingfisher, I would recommend Nettle & Bone or The Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking.
They actually released many books under the pseudonym Jessica Fletcher and were the books ‘Jessica’ was writing in the series. They did the same for Castle.
Yes!! I saw a few at the library recently. Might have to give them a go at some point. 😊
The Sworn Soldier books are a good choice for spooky season if you like her writing.
She's my favorite fantasy romance author, too. (I also love one of her children's series, written under her given name.)
Nettle and bone! It’s been my favorite t kingfisher so far
I'm glappy you enjoyed T Kingfisher 😂 I've been meaning to read them too. (Also might have to pick up some Oreo coke) 👀
I am a goose girl stan-and now I MUST read A Sorceress Comes to Call. Thanks for the recommendation!
Enjoy. Murder She Wrote and Matlock, growing up were my two favs to watch with my mom!! And as always, loving your cozy videos!! 💖

Loved this idea! Please do more, hopefully with more genre variety this time 😂 the jar really wanted you to read fantasy lol
I love Murder She Wrote! I used to watch it with my grandma all the time
I’ve honestly enjoyed pretty much everything from T Kjngfisher😂 I really liked the paladin books and a house with good bones
I've read Paladins Grace, Minor Mage, and Nettle and Bone by T Kingfisher. They were all so different, but so good. ❤
I have watched almost all of murder she wrote. It’s a great series. It was cozy mystery before that was a thing.
The T Kingfisher I'd recommend for you is Clockwork Boys. Eldritch evil, furry people, a doomed quest and the plot twist...so good.
I’m an adult, but my top autobuy/autoborrow authors are writers of MG fiction.
1. Christopher Paul Curtis who is a MG historical fiction author (I have read all of or nearly all of his books) 2. Lois Lowry who is a well known children’s author spanning many genres (I have read many of her books)

And I love Murder She Wrote!
My mom & I love Murder She Wrote! It's one of our favorite mystery shows!
Pausing 1 min in because you are the THIRD video I've seen today featuring that Kingfisher book. Damn their publicity is good.
I love Murder She Wrote! It inspired me to write mysteries
aw i love that!!
I would recommend Threadneedle by Cari Thomas though 🧡 lots of magic, suspense, drama, so good!

Perfect short little horror novella that delivers exquisite spooky vibes. Perfect for reading in one sitting on a chilly evening with some candles 😎
I haven’t read anything else by Adrienne Young, but Unmaking of June Farrow is probably my favorite book this year!!! Loved it so much 😍
I would recommend Jeneva Rose books! “Home Is Where The Bodies Are” is the first one I read and others are great too!
Yay, T. Kingfisher is one of my favourite authors ❤ I also used to watch Murder She Wrote with my mum 😀 Such a cozy show.
I'm on season 6 of Murder she wrote, and it's been awesome!

A Spindle Splintered was so good for me! Hope you like other books by her better!
Fable by Adrienne Young is good- the setting is done so well!
I’m watching murder she wrote for the first time too. I agree that’s its cozy. I’m only on season 3 episode 22 so far.
Every time you mention organizing your books and putting the sleeves back on i hope you get the itch to do it soon and film it😭
I love this video! Got so many new recs❤
Love T.

My autobut authors are Ali Hazelwood, S.T Gibson, and Katee Robert (who makes it easy for me because members of her patreon for like $12 get her book shipped to them)
Hot take, but I fuckin hate Katee Robert books 😂 they’re so badly written and she glorifies SA wayyyyy too much
I've read What Moves the Dead and Swordheart by T. Kingfisher. Swordheart was just okay, but WMtD was amazing, imo.
T. Kingfisher is hit and miss for me. I started off strong with Hollow Places, which I liked (4 stars), then came Nettle and Bone (DNF), followed by What Moves the Dead and What Feasts at Night (both just okay or even meh, they're just too short for any real substance).
Not me literally screaming to read once and future witches. I read it earlier this year and I LOVED it
Fun! My auto buy authors are Madeline Miller, R. F. Kuang, Emily Henry, Adalyn Grace, Chloe Gong, and V. E. Schwab
we love murder she wrote, it's a great show to listen to while doing things! Especially coz we live in Maine XD so hot tip the accents on the show are notoriously terrible lol
Murder She Wrote: tell me you're not GenX, without telling me you're not GenX.
I personally would recommend anything by Brian K. Vaughn. I love Y: The Last Man series and am quite enjoying Saga. Obviously you are unlikely to get them in single issue format but the bind ups are worth it imho. 😊
My autobuy author is definitely Gillian Flynn! I can‘t stop waiting for her new book to come out. It‘s been yeeeeaaars. 😅
I love t. kingfisher so much, yet I always want more. her saints if steel series is murder mystery fantasy with a touch of romance? amazing and the religion building. I want to belong to the temple of the white rat. just perfect
I'm currently on book five of the Shady Hollow series. I describe it as Murder, She Wrote meets The Busy World of Richard Scarry lol
If you’re looking for a story with a magical island and lovable characters, I suggest maybe checking out the three dark crowns series! (:
Fable by Adrienne Young is one of my favorite books. It’s got such a great vibe. You should give it a try.
I have several auto buy authors, but my top three are Tiffany D. Jackson, Kate Quinn and Abby Jimenez.
Definitely go with Fable.
just started the video, but WHAT BRAND IS YOUR SHIRT?! I WANT ONE
I’ve never read Kingfisher, but I really want to!
My one and only Auto-buy author is Seanan McGuire! Wayward Children Novella Series!
I love T. Kingfisher! Nettle and Bone is my favorite from them. I like Adrienne Young but I really didn't like Spells For Forgetting. It was just a lot of drama over some apples
What moves the dead was a 5 star for me. I loved it so much. Didn't enjoy the second as much but still a fun time.
Not gonna lie, putting the covers back on the books sounds like a dream to me 😊😊😊
hahaha you can come do it for me!
I'd like to try another but i'm not sure which i should try!
oh ALSO I loooved thornhedge by T Kingfisher!!
Great episode - super fun!
I have an author I will always buy on day one: Richard Osman. I just inhaled his new book in two days.
Also, a manga recommendation: Tomodachi x Monster
There's a channel called PushingUpRoses which has some reviews of some of the weirder Murder, She Wrote episodes.
omg i’m going to have to check this out once i’ve gotten deeper into the series!
My only auto buy authors are Josh Lanyon, NK Jemisin and Donna Tartt
I love A Spindle Splintered, but I agree with you about the pop culture element. I thought those lines disrupted the flow, and yes brought me out of the book. And I don't want to say that I found those lines cringey, but I did and I especially did with the reference to the meme. But what I loved was how it gave respect to the story itself and the character of sleeping beauty in particular. I do warn people that the book does go a bit off the rails at times, you may know the scenes I am referring to. I think the main character is a bit more mature in the sequel though.
My favourite author mine rn is Hannah kaner writer of the fallen gods sires
Are you still planning to read grandmaster of demonic cultivation?
yes! i’m hoping to get to it in November
