quite an amazing lore breakdown my friend, keep it up! I'm glad you acknowledged the fact that the in-game lore cannot be taken at face value (which most lore youtubers usually do), a lot of 'reading between the lines' is required in fromsoft games.

I've been wondering about the whole institution of replacing gods in relation to Metyr and the Greater Will. Why switch gods, especially if it entails so much suffering and disorder? Did all the gods before Marika (we have proof of at least one) fail and so new ones had to be selected/guided? Did they all fail because Metyr's lack of instructions or some other reason?
So I came to the conclusion that Metyr's brokenness could be the reason why. She being the herald/mouthpiece while the Elden Beast the power that allows to maintain the ruleset, it was her task to communicate the will of the Greater Will. But if she was broken from the start or from early on, perhaps she had to go with the initial command: select and instruct/guide Empyreans so that one can pair up with a powerful Lord, claim the Elden Ring and establish Order. But when the first god achieved this... there were no new instructions. Thus, Metyr kept resetting, looking for/creating new Empyreans and new Lords, like a broken record.
Or maybe this is completely off and for some reason, the GW wants to change gods every now and then (even though it goes against its supposed desire for Order) and Marika's insistence of staying in "office" was indeed heresy. The game certainly seems to imply this at times. But again, that can only be coming from the Fingers and their mother, operating faultily, flying by the seat of their pants.
I know this kinda goes against what you are explaining in the video (which is compelling as usual) but maybe it's food for thought.

Well we know that before Marika removed the rune of death, death was a definite thing in the lands between. So maybe the system of empyrians and replacing gods was simply in the case of the previous one dying

i don't think elden beast is testing the power of the tarnished when we fight it.
i think the elden beast really want to kill us to claim the great runes we have, because the elden beast can't be sure of the real purpose of the tarnished, remember we can choose the ending, and two of them ends up with destroying the golden order,i think the elden beast fights us to eliminate the possibility of choosing other options,in other words “to save itself”

Oh cool. Is it possible that if that’s true about the Nox and their fingerslayer blade wounding and “breaking” Metyr, that’s the reason we have a two fingers and a three fingers? Metyr was probably supposed to give birth to whole 5 fingered hands as the guidance of the Greater Will, but because they sliced her baby maker we get either a two finger or a three fingered being? Good stuff! Cool video. There’s also the question of Manus Metyr and Manus Celes. Was there another hand/falling star daughter of The Greater Will?

I took it to mean more that she can't give birth to new two fingers at all and now only gives birth to simpleminded fingercreepers.
The three fingers are not from metyr, like everything else about the frenzied flame its more of an opposite/mockery of the greater will and golden order.

If the Greater Will is an entity and not just space itself or a concept, then I think it died a long time ago.
Metyr and the Fingers read and translate light into messages. If they are far enough away from the Greater Will, they would be seeing the light it gave off in the past while in reality it could have died already.
Or perhaps its message changed and it no longer needs them

Finally someone rational, I agree with you, I'm actually kinda disappointed with the lore community, because the amount of headcanons, misconception and downright ridiculous and bias speculations that go against the lore, and when you disagree, they only say is a "possibility" so they can say is "right" until proved wrong by some "hard evidences", is so annoying, it really discourages any serious study about the real lore of the game.
This misconception about Metyr, the Two Fingers and the Greater Will was a big one, I lost the count how many bias players put in their mind that the Two Fingers and Marika never communicated with the Greater Will and were just lying all along, or saying that the Two Fingers used Marika and never really communed with the Greater Will, such bias and wrong interpratations, this all ties to the mindset of mage players and how they see the Greater Will as an "evil tyrant outer god", when we know for a fact that the Greater Will is not an Outer God. All because of Ymir, another bias mage.
Btw, I like to point out something, the Fingercreepers seem to be born from this deed commited by the Nox. The Ringed Finger description state it was a "legacy of an ancient act of blasphemy" and an "an ancestor of the Fingercreeper", which ties nicelly with this event of the Nox. This also explain the fact the the Fingercreeper seem to be a lesser being compared to the more normal Two Fingers, that are capable of communion with the Greater Will. Basically, after Metyr was broken and corrupted, she could only give birth to those lesser beings, the Fingercreepers, that is why she only give birth to these type in her fight.
Also, did you noticed how the description of the Mother of Fingers described her as the progenitor of the Fingercreeper and the Two Fingers, that we know are many, but say nothing about the Three Fingers? My undestanding it is that the Three Fingers came from the Two Fingers clan, a deformed Two Finger, he went mad and in his madness and pain, created the chaos of the Frenzy Flame, becoming a direct opposer to the concept of order of the Greater Will and his fellow brothers, the Two Fingers.
This is also why there is many Two Fingers, but only one Three Fingers, and why the Three Fingers know so much about his former boss and the origin of the universe of the game, a knowledge that they gained directly from the source of all creation, the Greater Will.

Ymir has a strong Oceiros/Gehrman feel to his character.
But also, I think the Greater Will has a lot of similarities to The Elder God of the Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver games (a parasite Elder being strongly resembling Gnosticism with its "wheel of fate"). Essentially, it is a meddling God, like all the others, who happens to have a lot of influence. When it is done with you, it abandons you. Look at Metyr, its own "daughter", Placidusax, Marika. All of them are pawns/God-slaves to the influence of the Greater Will, a meddling God. It would make sense why St. Trina understood that Godhood was a prison.

  • @Misha-lt9vy

Metyr is most likely Manus Celes, the divine hand that has its church above Liurnia. I would assume the Nox didn’t just attack Metyr, but they killed her outright, which is why she is in the land of the dead. The Fingerslayer Blade isn’t called The Fingerwounder Blade, after all. But Metyr’s children - the Fingers, weren’t all slain and the Nox were banished to the underhround. I would assume it wasn’t just The Greater Will’s vengeful wrath, but that slaying Metyr triggered a war.
It’s also possible that the reason why The Nox civilizations are underground is their discovery of silver tears and how to create life outside of the Great Tree, which is the sin that sent them down. Silver tears are actually mercury, and mercury is rather famous for settling at the bottom of things.
Either way, when Metyr died, her link with the Greater Will was severed, which also meant her children’s link was also severed.

"which also meant her children’s link was also severed."
Wrong, the video already explained that this is not the case, the Two Fingers still mainted communion with the Greater Will, they have nothing to do with their mother, she was the one broken, not them.
There many other hints from the game that this mentality is completely wrong, again, just going by the bias and distorted perception of Ymir and the mage players community.

@@t6y6fihu8hy9jjuhi it is highly possible that The Roundtable Hold doesn't exist in the same time in history as the rest of the game. It seems hard to know. Then they go silent, looking for additional guidance, but there's nothing to suggest they had any recent guidence to begin with.

I saw it yes, but if you put the 2 images side by side you will notice there is no wound on the armor. I mean the wound sits were Metyr womb is but it looks really gruesome and split vertically, it's also her weakpoint like the crack on the Elden beast.

Of this is accurate then would it mean that the nox attack happened before Marika was guided by the 2 fingers?

In my opinion it's later, the Nox and Marika were allied hence the word "traitors" was used.
Also the unnamed eternal city location implies it was once a part of the capital.

Makes sense and then we got Placidusax tending to the Bayle rebellion. I wonder if Dragonkin soldiers came about during that time.
Also doesn't Yura say he learned a trick "to sever the finger" and we have finger sever tools to leave worlds. Hmmmmm

so, who are all the other gravestones? Are they all failed attempt from Ymir or creating a son ? The Numen had a problem with children not being born, that's why they created the silver tears.

It's a good possibility, but they may be just normal gravestones.
