  • My second pro race. A very tough day. Far more lessons learned during this one than the one before it, but still managed to place higher in a more competitive field. Upset, but appreciate the progress. Already excited for the next one.

[After watching] As a fellow endurance athlete but especially as your mom, I'm so proud of your ability/willingness to bury yourself and then keep digging in the hunt for improvement, for the chance to move up. You have the gift of a big aerobic engine, but that grit, the toughness, that's all you.
We'll discuss osmolality, hydration and gastric emptying another time. 😂 love, Dr. Mom

Mad respect! To finish mid pack in your second pro race with virtually no experience as an age grouper is INSANE. It speaks to a metric shit ton of both natural ability and mental toughness.

Your performance has been wonderful ! Every athlete has been dreaming about competing at the pro level since early childhood, but most of them were never willing to take the risk and to suffer because they were not willing to do what it takes. You did that ! You had the option to take a safe job and to life a standard life, but you made the decision to put everything on the line, even to sleep in your car and to work your ass off. And here you are: competing against the cream of the crop in your sport ! You left everything you had on the course, you went through the suffering and fought back from the back of the back. You are still young in triathlon, you still have much to learn and a lot of potential to grow. Don´t be ashamed to cry because you have earned the right to show your emotion via your actions. Best wishes and as much success on your journey as possible.

You done good dawg! Listen to what Lionel mentions on his plethora of pitfalls in his race and he has tons of 70.3 experience, and he still managed to pull of, as he states: "his hollow win". Amazing vulnerability on display. You have your goal, and its a big one, so makes sense to never be satisfied, and certainly not yet. But enjoy the journey too, and be kind to yourself, because you are doing big stuff, and it is going to take another couple year or two of effort to get where you want to be (in my very not-professional opinion lol!) Keep at it buddy!

First off you can never feel bad about giving it your all on race day. Embrace your effort as a victory regardless of the finish time. Now now you know you can suffer and still survive. That is what makes Lionel Lionel. You are on the right track and really farther ahead of where you should be for as short of a time you have been full on pro mode. You are still learning and will soon see the benefits of your efforts. BTW the over head shots are amazing. Best on youtube by far.
