Competitive athletes race to win. That’s the name of the game. That being said, when you watch this video and learn how Ari did at age groups, remember that he has only been swimming seriously for 6 months. As his swimming improves, he will DOMINATE!!! (Obviously I’m partial). So proud of you Ari! Love, Dad

for those confused, i was at the race and actually raced myself. In the sprint distance, Ari was the first to cross the line. However, a 17 year old boy, Sam Tullis, was in the second wave and ended up just beating Ari’s time by .5 of a second. Great racing Ari!

You're improvement have been insane. I know you're a competitor and don't like losing, but I think you should be more happy with you're performance. Eliud Kipchoge said that him losing the London Marathon was crucial in him winning the Tokyo Olympics. Can't remember exactly what he said, but it was somewhere alone the lines of the fact that it humbled him, and showed the world that he is not impervious to losing, and made him train harder.

I raced in the 19 and under age group, and competitive is an understatement. The fact that the overall sprint winners were under 19 goes to show how insanely difficult this race was, but that 5k time of yours is ungodly. What an amazing performance.

Ari, as someone who made this similar transition to triathlon in the sport’s early days, I must say your progress is excellent. At this point while wins are nice progressing to balance as a triathlete is the goal. Your swim will get better over time. You have the engine, it’s just a matter of time !

Those results are super good - your improvement is impressive. I'm a runner and cyclist who recently started swimming and it is a TRULY HUMBLING thing. There are so many technique and form things I don't even understand and I feel like I'm just blowing my lungs out doing 100 meters. I've thought about trying a Tri, but the swimming part really intimidates me.

Having been a triathlete off and on for over 30 years, and having developed myself from being a mediocre swimmer to someone who can at least get into the front pack of my age group over that period (in fact in one of my very last races aged 49 I got out the water with the pros - 27 minutes for 2km of a combined ocean/Sand dune run/ river swim on less than 7km a week) I reckon … while obviously you need to improve from lots of swimming in the pool under the eye of a good coach … there are a bunch of open water swim ‘hacks’ you could also learn that will dramatically speed up the process of closing down that 5 minute gap. In other words, if you could drop 2 minutes in the pool for 1500M I could virtually guarantee you another 2 minutes just from learning how to find and stick with some fast feet of better swimmer. This may not get you to front pack, but almost guarantee you a position at the rear of the second pack. How does one go about acquiring such skills. Well, once Australia opens up for international travellers next year (hopefully) come down under for the off season of 2022/23 and spend 4-5 months swimming with the likes of Spot Anderson of ‘Bondi Fit’ or Vlad of ‘Vlad swim’ (both sydney based) or their equivalents in South East Queensland. Lots of open water training (and best of all) ocean races each weekend (sometimes you can get in up to 5 ocean swim races in one weekend if you want to around sydney alone). Come down under dude!
