Excellent review: detailed, well explained… and great demo! It’s always a pleasure to hear your playing -no matter on what gear. Those MetroExpress seem to be serious instruments. But there’s a big tone difference between both specimens: the one with the Morado fingerboard is clearly beefier, rounder - it’s probably a unique individual: it’s definitely a keeper! Best regards.
Thx a lot for these kind words, mate! I´m very glad you´ve enjoyed my review. A lot of work went into it. And great to hear, that you also recognise the difference between these two basses. For me personally, the one with the Morado board is the favorite. All the best!
Thanks. I just bought my 2024 Metro Express two months ago; red with roasted maple neck and fingerboard. I upgraded to Vintage Tone Control. Love, Love, Love it.
Thx so much, Ed. Glad, you've enjoyed it. It's really a lot of work, and it takes some time to film, mix and edit such a video. But I really love doing them, and comments like yours are my motivation! All the best!
Thank you for this really great review and demo ! I'm impressed by the difference between both basses. Totally different. Often I can notice a litlle difference in term of sound but here, it's obvious. I do preferer the maple fingerboard in general but here the morado.
Thx a lot for your kind words, Jonathan. I was really surprised as well by the difference. I liked the Morado one so much, that I've ended up buying it. :-) Have a great and peaceful Xmas time!
Great review as always, and fantastic playing! Yes, the morado one is more organic and full sounding. They both have that Sadowsky sound, especially when using both pickups, but I think the maple one could be in danger of sounding too scooped for most mixes and some styles. 👍
Thx so much for your kind words! And I'm with you, the one with the Morado fingerboard is my favourite. I had to keep that one, that's how much I love this bass. Concerning the sightly too scooped sound: I've added no EQ in the mix, to present the basses in their purest form. You could definitely make them sit better in the mix by adding additional compression and EQ. All the best!
Moocho thanks!! While l love my player plus, l really want that 19mm string spacing at the bridge, quick release bridge, neck adjust wheel at the heel, adjustable nut and still a 34" scale! Not to forget a lighter bass than my player plus! I'm sold, but l'll keep my player plus too due to its steal reinforced neck! Just missing block inlay option!
If you can afford, I'd recommend to get both. 😉 They are pretty different in some major aspects. I try to do a comparison video in the foreseeable future...
When Sadowsky first started out, all of his bodies and necks were made by WARMOTH company. This begs the question, just what does Sadowsky actually do? Print out shipping labels???? Apparently he did design the shape of the original 4 string headstock. I've serviced, modified and restored quite a number of different basses. Sadowsky basses are okay. They are playable. But not worth anywhere near the price they get. Custom basses built from scratch, in New York? Only one place to get those. FODERA. But they are surely pricey. Not for beginners. Unless one is building a collection. You did a great presentation here. Thank you. Nice bass chops!
@troyalanmusic6292 Thank you for the update. My comment referred to a time years ago. Good to learn the new basses are top quality. They certainly sound good.
Thanks so much for the amazing review and playing! I am up for the 4 string but I can't find any good reviews compared to the 5 string! Do you believe the 4 and the 5 are the same in quality? Thanks again!!
Hello michael. Just see your video and really like it how the way you detailed everything. Im confuse between sire v7 or sadowsky metro express. Please help me to decide. I already test sadowsky but sire v7 in my country need indent 3 months, so i never test it. How about your opinion?
Hi there. I still own both basses and play them a lot. You would be happy with either one. But if I had to go with just one, I'd personally pick the Sire. I still hope I'll find the time to do a comparison video anytime soon.
Thx a ton, Bob! I really appreciate your kind words! I do enjoy the Sadowsky very much. And I promise, a comparison video with my Sire V7 will come. Please stay tuned. A very happy and healthy new year! 👍🏻🙏🏻
Thx a lot, Dalton. I just equipped the one with the Morado fingerboard with an Sadowsky VTC (vintage tone control). First, I'll make a video feature of that. Thereafter, a comparison with my Sire will follow. So, please stay tuned! 😀
@@MichaelSchmittEleven can't wait to see that head to head comparison. It will definitely help me to see if I should go Sire, Sadowsky or even Bacchus. Thanks for responding 😀
i got mine a week ago and the strings are buzzing like crazy when properly adjusted, i cut my fingers several times with the frets and the tuners feel really cheap...sorry but that's no good in this pricerange
Ok, so maybe you should send it back. I got two of these basses. And tuners and frets were superb! Do you have a maple board? Sometimes, the wood shrinks a bit, due to temperature and humidity changes, leaving rougher edges on the frets. You definitely should get in contact with the seller. All the best.
@@MichaelSchmittEleven i sent it back, tried others and they all were not satisfying. the seller admitted to quality issues himself and is dropping the product.
11:21 please describe what is boutique sound? What it is? About the bass it's the first run and are notorious for have a terrible fret job.. are you being paid to do this?
This is the second series, and as you can see in the close ups, the fret job on the basses in this video is superbly done. For me personally, a boutique J Bass has all the genes of a traditional J, but with added high end sparkle and a very tight and pronounced lower mids frequency response. I don't get any money for my videos, and I bought the one with the Morado fret board with my own money. Thx for watching and commenting!
The bass offers really good craftsmanship and superb quality! People pay well over $1,000 for Chinese made tech, like smartphones etc. For me personally, the feel and sound of the instrument is what counts. Plus, the Metroexpress instruments get quality checked in Germany before shipping. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!

The Metro Express line is like $1-1.5k and made in Germany. Their NYC basses are worth the 4K ticket imo but to each their own.

I played the p/j pickup version and the jazz bass pickup was so noisey I literally played it for 30 seconds . I bought a Sandberg Electra instead.
That's been an issue with the first serries. The newer ones shouldn't have this problem anymore.
Is the string spacing the same as a Fender J ? Thanx !
The string spacing is a bit wider. And the neck profile is very flat and thin. That feels extremely comfortable and fast.
Its a first generation metro express?
It's the second batch. But the newest ones come with slight improvements and a Sadowsky logo on the headstock.
I could not ever spend over 1k on a chines made instrument.
