- Hello everyone!
Uni's been super busy lately so I haven't had too much time to practice but this is something I was working on during the holidays =)
Initially, I wanted this video to be the first where I wear a blazer but I wanted to increase the elegance of my production value asap :P
Spy×Family has become one of my favourite animes after I gave into the hype and watched it! Thankfully, there's a part 2 coming out in the spring season so we won't have to wait too long for more episodes, unlike Dress-up Darling ._.
This anime has actually turned me into a manga reader since I've picked up volumes 4 - 7 (which has just been released) - I haven't voluntarily read any fiction since I was 10. The extra panels and Franky guiding us through Endo's conceptualisation of the character designs is also a great addition and why I want to buy volumes 1 - 3 but sadly, they've been out of stock in Australia for months. Volume 3 is selling for $78 on Amazon!! Talk about price gouging...
A bit about the arrangement:
I instantly fell in love with the ending song of this show since the lyrics are so catchy and upbeat which makes you feel happy. The jazz elements were also quite interesting - I listened to quite a few arrangements of this song and particularly liked Ricky Wong's rendition of it too.
Despite looking like a simple piece, this arrangement was quite challenging to play well because from 0:00 to 1:02, your right hand is basically playing 2 melodies. The bottom melody is staccato while the top is mostly legato which made it really hard to strike a balance between crispiness and smoothness using the pedal. I also struggled to make the B5 at 0:21 more pronounced; in earlier takes, it kept getting cut short because I was hitting it too lightly while letting go of the pedal. The swing rhythm also had to maintain for sections such as 0:19. Animenz played those notes like they were "skipping" so I tried to emulate that as well, otherwise, it would just sound straight.
I also want to learn the OP (Mixed Nuts) in the future but that one's a lot harder than Kigeki so it'll take a while. The intro is so cool, especially the part where they smash the keyboard haha
That's all for now! See you next time =)
Maybe Anya will get a gun with a silencer by then...
EDIT: Mission accomplished! 300 subscribers achieved =D Thank you, everyone!
whoops forgot to put the thumbnail in 😅
You have two beautiful hands. I'm jealous. (Nice playing btw)
Amazing work!
Thank you for this! It’s slow and easy to follow, and I’m using this quite often to check what I should improve on when I’m playing. I’m still learning this right now and this video is basically the best one except Animenz’s I believe.
Thanks for the encouragement!! I thought this video was quite bad because of the audio 😞
Just a fun fact: I still use this piece as my warm up piece haha
@@CharlesMaPiano I can see why you would do so! The swing and sudden movements, including stretches makes for a great warm up piece. I assume you shorten it though, and remove some of the repeating parts during warm-up?
Also, thank you for being so nice to everyone and replying to them in the comments! It's one thing having a good performance video and another thing being very amicable to everyone who appreciates it :)
@@theunknown1545 Yup, I just play around the first 1.5 mins
Thanks for the kind words :) Comments are half the reason why I upload haha but I've been really busy lately so will hopefully upload soon
@@CharlesMaPiano looking forward to it!
Great performance! 3:40 sounds so clean.
Glad to see you back! I paid extra attention to make that section clean :p
This cover sounds very relaxing, great job
Thanks! Lots of people are saying my covers are relaxing 🤔
Continue you are doing good
do pleaseee Centimeter from the anime rent a girlfriend, the one of AtherionCa on youtube it looks good !
I was thinking of centimeter but the show really puts me off learning it 😅
@@CharlesMaPiano Alright, btw do you have twitter on instagram for your viewers ?
@@trowr6s906 I don't have one at the moment since I feel like my channel is too small
Nice suit, we have the same piano
I am learning this, I want to play like you! 😭
Good luck ᕙ(`▽´)ᕗ! It's not as challenging as other Animenz arrangements but voicing and pedaling is quite hard especially when half your hand is playing staccato while the other is playing legato haha
I have a lot to improve with my playing too, especially the dynamics at the end
OMG,,,,,,,,,,Animenz and Charles Ma
Чарльз, что скажешь про new arrangement by animenz? Noragami. Сложная ли она для тебя лично
It looks alright. I really like the chorus!
Animenz said there's no tenths so people with small hands should be able to play it. I never really know how hard a piece actually is until I learn it though
@@CharlesMaPiano ok
My friends always say Fazioli is not suitable for playing this kind of songs
Fazioli is clearer and is more suited for Mozart or Bach but any good piano is versatile enough to play a variety of genres. It sounds fantastic in real life but I have yet to find a way to convey that through the mics =(
@@CharlesMaPiano Yes.I think your performance is really nice.I used to play the Steinway at my friend's home, and in my opinion, maybe Steinway is more suitable to play the pop music.Anyway,i 've only heard the voice of Fazioli at the concert and vedios. Thanks for your answer!
What program did you use to render this?
I used Final Cut Pro for the video. It came in the uni student bundle from apple which was a really good deal
WAKU WAKU!
I like peanuts. And I don't like carrots!
Nice suit✅
Thanks =D
Can you please play "My War" Animenz Ver. 🤩 It will be so great if its been played on a beautiful grand piano!!!
Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of AOT soundtracks since they're a bit too heavy and not as elegant but I'll get around to it one day since my tastes may change and I want to learn all of Animenz's arrangements
@@CharlesMaPiano I got it! Thanks!
Wow ! What a great work💯 I hope you can improve the camera angle so that we can see the movements of the hands more clearly😀
I put it a bit lower this time since I didn't want my face to appear in it as much haha
Will try to position it higher next time =)
@@CharlesMaPiano Я думаю, можно подвинуть камеру немного левее и повернуть угол камеры направо.
@@twofoldd I was thinking the same too. You normally can't see the left side of the piano but in this video you can
@@CharlesMaPiano Понял
@@CharlesMaPiano ✅✅
Charles, how old are you and how many years have you been playing?
I just turned 19. Been playing since I was 3 lol but only took it seriously (i.e. regularly practicing) when I was 13
@@CharlesMaPiano wow, i think you have 25-30 years
so it is your birthday today?
@@twofoldd Thanks! But my playing still feels child-like haha
I hope to reach Animenz's level of maturity one day =D
@@twofoldd Nah it was 14 days ago
Hope you can play Unravel, I haven’t heard the other pianist use a Fazioli grand piano to played it lol
I don't plan on playing it yet since I want to improve the audio quality first.
I hope Animenz makes a V2 some day. It'll be really cool to hear what it sounds like on his piano too
@@CharlesMaPiano Me too! Looking forward to waiting he played Ver.2 (specially when he changed he new D-274 spirio l r)
@@CharlesMaPiano I also look forward to updating your recording equipment, because it sounds like your sound is not broad enough, I recommend you to use at least 2 microphones for recording
@@AlansPianoCurrently I'm using 2 KM184's mics so maybe it's the positioning. I accidentally recorded in mono for my Kizuna Music and My Dearest covers tho
I think the current setup sounds pretty good on headphones or devices where the speakers are far apart. The sound quality diminishes a bit for devices like the earlier iPads where the speakers are close together at the bottom. I try to change up the mic position every recording to hopefully find the good spot one day =)
@@CharlesMaPiano Good luck finding the best recording location, by the way, I went and asked my other friends, the reason why Animenz's piano sounds so clean is because he uses a Steinway's spirio l r system and connected to VSL concert D-274, which created his incomparably pure piano sound
Как же ужасно, что я плохо знаю английский. Я несколько раз пересматриваю некоторые видео, где Animenz дает мастер класс и субтитры очень плохо работают(
At least you can use his masterclasses as motivation to improve your English
I'm trying to improve my Chinese so I can watch his bilibili videos (•‿•๑)
@@CharlesMaPiano by the way, where are you from?
Ты смог это выучить за две недели?
No, it took about a month to learn. I started learning this piece after uploading Vogel im Kafig
@@CharlesMaPiano cool
Bro I’m not kidding and I know you’re real but you look a lot like ai especially with this camera angle
I get this comment quite a lot lol
Maybe it's the lighting
