Yet another really useful video Big B 👍 Thanks for sharing. Man, I could 'Jack ma Jaws' all day about adhesives, sealants and stuff. But I won't of course. A few simple things to consider when selecting an adhesive are the material and the function of the component. Plastics (polycarbonate, ABS) will always need a solvent based adhesive (not epoxy) if you need a permanent bond. There's nothing better than JB Platic Weld which I know you're using bro. I use JB Marine Weld 2-part epoxy (Steel and Hardener) for many things, and works brilliantly on fibreglass or carbon fibre. When it comes to function, most adhesives will have stronger shear strength than tensile strength (rotation or torsional vs pull strength) so you need to consider what the component you're fixing is doing. If it is rotating or under high torque you need shear strength. If it being pushed/ pulled you need high tensile strength. Nice stuff Big B 👊
Good info Big "B"! It's this kind of content that sets you apart from other RC channels. You are extremely modest; you have a ton of knowledge that even the most seasoned hobbyists can benefit from. Keep doing what you are doing and you will always have an audience. I use Bob Smith Industries 5 min epoxy for everything boat related. If I need to fill holes I add a little bit of micro balloons to the epoxy for easy sanding once it sets. If I need to use the epoxy as a sealer, I add a little denatured alcohol to make it runny like water. Of course I use CA in various thicknesses for building, and once in a while I will find a use for silicone, but I can pretty much do everything boat related with epoxy. Cheers!
Thanks brother, I will check out the Bob Smith industries 5min epoxy. The jb weld epoxy is a cheap product I've had my share of issues with it but I've also had some great success with it in the past. I will definitely check it out I appreciate the info
Big B you are the man! I've been using bubble gum and duct tape until I found this video! Keep up the great work brother this was the one I've been waiting for. Boat Gang!
Great video and tips Big B. Hot tip for cleaning/waxing the outside of your fiberglass boats( veles, zelos, ul-19 , etc.. Gel Gloss, it comes in a aerosol can or a liquid. Wipe it on, let it haze , then buff it out. Super easy . Cleans , shines, protects! Gel Gloss is the brand name
Shoe goo is handy stuff too. I’ve glued a fairly heavy esc down before. I’d say it’s a step or two past double sided tape. You can still remove it for the most part and it sticks to anything. It’ll stay flexible. Super cheap and easy.
I love shoe goo but it's getting hard to find here. Gorilla Clear Grip contact adhesive is every bit as good. Sets in an hour and remains slightly flexible.
Great vid on the sealants Big B, and quite informative on JB WELD application. I have used Z poxy, comes in 15 & 30 minute cures with great results on my fixed wing planes. Drys clear, and strong as nails. Excellent on all ABS, fiberglass applications. The 30 min. cure bottles is the best for 24hr. application for super strength. Hobby stores, local and online that cater to R/C are the best for availability
great to see so many comments, Big B's the bomb 💣 yall.. for sandable try CA and baking soda conformal coating for waterproofing circuits and servo seems
Have gooped up fully plugged-in and ready to roll receivers for waterproofing. All on the outside, nothing torn apart anymore, like I use to waterproof. GE Advanced clear tub & shower sealant from lowes
Thanks for the review on your great products brother. I think I’m going shopping today now. Can you do a bearing maintenance video like lubricating the motor bearings
Have you tried a product called Devcon plastic welder. Good stuff for plastic and dries hard. Works great for ABS haven’t tried it for poly carbonate yet. Glued a sonic v1 seem.
I've herd of it but never used it. Thanks for the info brother...... These products in the vid are common found almost anywhere. Been using them for quite a while, basically keep them in the tool bin just to have on hand.
@@IRONCLADRC good stuff in in your video and very informative as some good products to use and easy stuff to get a hold of local. This other stuff was something to always experiment with. Myself I’m always looking for new products to try
Hi Ironclad! Have you ever used Bob and Smith 15min epoxy? It's the best epoxy I used on fiberglass boat...tried JB weld marine weld and it failed. Bob and Smith was the best!
Guess I should of included my 105 & 207 in the video.. I've never used the 105, 207 in abs plastic hulls?. Herd lots of great things about the G flex by wet system. I may have to give it a shot.
@@IRONCLADRC the 105/20x is awesome but not that great for plastic. I've fixed and inlayed a couple plastic boats with G Flex even a couple fiberglass ones so it's extremely versatile. If it weren't so expensive I'd use it for a lot more too, lol.
Big B! I have a plastic boat that I pulled the top and bottom halves off. It has some clear adhesive between the halves. It seemed like clear silicone, but not 100% sure. I want to reseal the hull halves as it came from factory but unsure what to use. Is the Loctite clear removable? What would you recommend to make sure I don’t seal the two halves shut forever? I was thinking of using 3M Clear marine Silicone as it is removable. Thoughts?
Jb water weld is a 2 part adhesive, that would be great for joining. Unfortunately, it's tough to remove once joined, it CAN be undone .ay be tough. Not sure what else i can recommend
This video may help you. I used jb plastic weld & drywall tape to fix a broken hatch on the blackjack 24 you can use the same process for small areas that needs reinforcement. Good luck build it ironclad
Just bought pro boat sonic wake . First FE 30 years. Great to get back in hobby. Your tech info is great. Keep it coming
Welcome back brother. Build it IRONCLAD

If you've sank as many boats as I have you'd swear by it too. Lol. Thanks for watching brother

Thanks for the insight on the sealents and sponge vid. Also on the 3m double sided tape I use it all the time. Great stuff 👍
Vid popped up and had me wondering what time and day it was. Half napping and thought it was tomar morning lmao
I definitely had to double check the time too. Lol I think someone may have switched PM and AM.
I made this one on a whim hopefully it helps someone out out there. Back to our regular schedule 😆
Awesome video. It's the little things we all can learn from. Thanks.

Make sure any silicone you use is electrical grade, if it’s not it will turn them wires green real fast! I’ve had it happen to me a couple times.
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. Really appreciate, mate.

Isn't Devcon "Rat Poison" lol
Mr. Clean erasers? I use them for all sorts of stuff and never thought about the boats........ Hmmm....🤔 I think I'll add some to my toolbox. 😉
Yea man the actual work great for certain applications. Be careful on fine finishes they can seriously scuff the finish
I also noticed that you put double sided foam for your hatch to.
I can't take credit for that G-man donated the mini mono to the channel he installed the foam, I like it so I left it on the boat.
