I'm Converting My Sisterlocks to Microlocks

  • My locs are simply too small for my liking at this stage in my life. Even with converting, they will still be small, but it's time.
    Listen in on my rationale. I KNOW I'm not the only one experiencing reality with my locs, so baby, I'm going with it and keeping it moving. I have no idea how this will go...soooo you'll have to follow me to see the updates as I go. I'm not worried, just ready to get it going.
    If my situation resonates with you, I hope my journey helps you make your decision in one direction or the other. My theory with our locs is if you aren't sure, be still and do nothing until you can come back to it with certainty that everything will work out as it should.😉

    I’m 2 years interlocked!!! Mine are a little bigger than traditional Sisterlocs but still a good size and fullness.

    I passed on the sisterlocs and got microlocs installed instead. I wasn’t all that concerned about a grid and I know after several re-ties, as my locs mature I’ll be doing my own re-tie, so I like that my locs are not tiny, they’re small but about two sizes up from traditional sister locs. My hair is curly so I’m experiencing some expansion. I’m loving the journey so far. I have an undercut, shaved in the back and sides cause I’m 60 and ain’t nobody got time for that. LOL

    I just got microlocs installed over a month ago. I'm also around your age, and I understand why you're converting your sisterlocs. They're too small and tedious, that's why I decided not to get them. Good luck on your new journey

    My gosh! I'm 61 and lovin my hair and my hair is thriving but I get it and understand what you mean by family genetics.. I also noticed my hair thriving not just because of genetics but inside out personal healthcare. I eat healthy and exercise which overall makes a huge difference. Thank you for being transparent as I've also considered later combining my hair possibly in the future❤

    This is me right now, I've had sisterloc's 4 years this month and I"m over it. i have been letting the new growth do it's thing because I was thinking I needed to cut my locs and just get lock extensions in a more traditional size, I want pencil size around, i have always had thick 4C hair and I swear I have more locks than I began with over the 4 years. They are thinning, breaking, the upkeep is overwhelming , in my research for repair & solutions someone said just combine them, I didn't know it was possible. So this may be the way, I'm definitely going to consult someone, but this may save me chopping my own natural hair that's 10-16 inches depending where in my head, but I'm on board to do this!!

    • @goldeefromlockzitude
      @goldeefromlockzitude  8 месяцев назад

      Yes, before you chop, explore your options. Combining can definitely help things if your existing grid allows it. I hope it works for you. Just know it is stillna process as you wait for the combined locs to fuse, but it will happen. Best of luck to you!

      I am barely six months out and realized early on that I would need to combine my locs. In addition to the extensions that were added on which were too large for the root, I had to surrender my vanity and deal with the reality of my own texture and density. Not try to make them something they were never going to be. The way I see it…do what you have to do to maintain the integrity of your own hair.

    You mentioned earlier in your video that your initial loctician wasn’t aware of things that could’ve helped your locs expand. Now that you are aware, do you mind sharing some tips with us? Thanks for this video. It was very informative.

    • @goldeefromlockzitude
      @goldeefromlockzitude  11 месяцев назад +4

      Wow. Sorry i missed this question. One big thing I'll share is that braiding and banding too tightly stifles the expansion that occurs before condensing. Loosening those braids and allowing the hair to dry loose and free from time to time helps ALOT with volume. It has to be strategically timed and monitored but it helps. I was so afraid of my locs unraveling i put way too much tension on my braids. I know better now, but myblocs have already matured. The new growth gets the benefit of my wisdom though😊

    Best of luck on your journey! My sister locks haven't been the same since the pandemic started and I had to self maintain for a while. Then I decided to continue to do my own maintenance and I just hate the retie process. I have been debating just cutting my hair and starting all over with bigger locks. Maybe combining could be an option for me.

    • @goldeefromlockzitude
      @goldeefromlockzitude  Год назад

      Yes the covid lockdowns messed up a lot of people. For a while I could tell in my clients' locs where along their locs the lockdowns took place. It took a while to nurse some of them back to health. Self reties are no joke indeed. If u do combine, it is much easier to have help because they can fully see the lines and stray hairs.

    OMG, I’m experiencing that now. My hair never expanded and now I why and I now know things I could have done or requested from my loctician that possibly could have helped.. From washing to choosing the right rotation pattern.. I’m now planning to change my rotation pattern to allow expansion and give the illusion of my volume ..

    I've been thinking about combining my SL for almost 3 months now. Finding someone who genuinely cares about my SL and not just the money, is hard to find in the NOVA area. I watch you on IG to see when you have openings, but never catch it.

    • @goldeefromlockzitude
      @goldeefromlockzitude  Год назад

      Yes, unfortunately i hear many saying this same thing about finding quality locticians. Many are just chasing the bag. I personally had to slow down which is why i'm not taking anymore clients, but i'm slowly training and mentoring a few people thru my academy to do what I do so I can have a solid list of referrals that I can trust. I've got 4 on deck now that will be beastly with it when they're ready to open their doors.

    • @goldeefromlockzitude
      @goldeefromlockzitude  8 месяцев назад

      Well embracing the gray is a journey for many lok and that's ok, but I promise it's less stressful to go with it. Rinses i am not sure about where coverage quality is concerned. I may worknfor a while, but my guess is that the applications would be needed more frequently depending on how muchbfray needs to be covered ...

    What was in your routine that made you locs stay thin?

    • @goldeefromlockzitude
      @goldeefromlockzitude  Год назад +4

      Main thing was braiding too tight when braiding and banding. Not allowing my hair the opportunity to swell enough . I didn't know then what I know now. unfortunately.
