This is very helpful because you are reporting the same limitations that the rest of us are experiencing. I had surgery for a comminuted, displaced distal radius fracture 3 1/2 weeks ago and the cast taken off a few days ago. I wasn't able to get a PT appointment until 2 weeks from now and told to move my fingers around with no further advice. Your experience as you try to do the exercises is reassuring for the rest of us.
Hello, now after one year, how much range of motion did you manage to gain back? Can you do push-ups on that wrist now if you'd want to for example? Would really appreciate it! 🙏
Very encouraging watching this after 3 days of agony since cast removed.... also feeling 'totally screwed' ! It would be great to see how you have progressed and how much movement you have now. Hopefully you have no lasting damage especially being a dentist ! All the best and thankyou.
It was so good to practice alongside you in the video- it gave me motivation to keep going! Thank you so much- I hope you are now fully recovered - just as I wish to be. Recovery will be a long road - I felt your pain!
Maaam, the amazing and best video even i can relate my wrist cast off issue with yours. A very very big thumbs up for you. Your video is so much better than any of the demonstrations produced by the so called experts
Thank you for posting this video. Today is my first day of rehabbing my broken wrist. I’ve added your exercises to the ones my doctor gave me to do. Exercising along with you helps the time go faster!
This is really helpful. I broke my distal radius 4 weeks ago and was given an inadequate splint and no advice. Following along with someone who's obviously hurting and restricted in movement but determined is encouraging me to keep trying. THANK YOU!
I broke my wrist June 2. What is it with no advice or suggestions from the doctors? Mine took off my cast, put on a brace ( this was at 3 weeks out) told me I could do some gentle exercises, though he didn’t tell me what, and told me to wear the brace for 3 weeks and I didn’t need to come back unless I had big problems.
I also broke my wrist on September 9 of this year got my cast off today October 19 and you are the best exercises and I’m following you. Thank you so much for your help. All the way from Canada
Thank you for this video, I am 3 months out of surgery for distal radius fracture. where a plate was inserted. Slow progress because it's not only the bones that are healing. These exercises are much like the ones that I am doing but its good to watch them in video form - this really helps. Progress is slow but day by day changes happen, certain amount of stiffness still remains but getting better as is the hand rotation movements. Best wishes
Hi! Thank you so much for posting your video about your healing Journey.I was given no real information after I had the splint removed after surgery and my hand being immobilized is completely stiff.. so I've been looking online for safe slow exercises to do for my wrist as it's pretty much locked I can't move it at all. If you can uncurl your fingers you can also find a small softball to hold and at the end of your fingers and gently squeeze the ball or even roll it between your fingers and the ball that I have is is a little bit bigger than a golf ball it's a plastic it's very light...I've also seen a video where they recommend trying to gently once you can get your hand down flat to stretch out your fingers so that they don't curl and to just gently flatten them if you can.. I hope you feel better soon and good luck to you!
Hi pretty lady your video was excellent and i know it feels great to be doing Pt along with someone in similar situation. I fell 6 weeks ago dislocating my wrist with many fractures. In other words a big mess. The doctor at first tried putting my dislocation back in place extremely painful and then in a cast for 2 weeks. It did not work so i needed surgery 4 weeks ago. I have been in a new cast every 2 weeks. Yesterday new cast for the last 2 weeks and then cast removal and 8 weeks of OT. My fingers and thumb have been numb and only gradually coming back to life doing similar exercises you are doing. I know the routine because I broke my other wrist 9 years ago and needed surgery. I recovered so well after 6 weeks of PT. I was back in gym lifting weights at 3 months and hope to do that with my fractured wrist. PT is so important and i am thankful you created this video so i can work along with you. Thank you very much 🙏😘🥰✊👊👍👌🤚
Thanks a lot! I have an intra distal radius comminuted fractures and this is helping me a lot. I’ve seen so many orthopedics most of them recommended getting the surgery only a few said not. The irony of that none of those orthopedics asked for a CT scan, luckily I’m sticking with a fixed fiberglass cast. These exercises are helping me a lot, though my orthopedic careless and didn’t talk about it till I mentioned it to him and he said ok after the cast removal I’ll write you the referral😞
@@carollynne241 Hi! In my case, it was @ 4-5 months. Now that I watch pictures I realize how swollen they were. Everything will return to normal after a few months. I opted for no surgery and didn't do much therapy, almost none. Now that I can do everything with my hand, I really can't believe it. But keep moving and stretching and closing your fingers. Good luck.
I had just got out of the hospital 3 weeks 1day ago (post surgery) I was/am doing these exercises during physical therapy, I appreciate the video, it lets me know im not alone in my fight to get back to some kind of normalcy, Thank You.
@nadi8985 as much time as I could tolerate. It's been 2 years, I still have some limited range of motion, and some arthritis but overall I'm doing a little better than I was.
Thank you for posting this, I have ben trying to do these exercises along with you. Just had my cast removed after 6 weeks, right radius fracture and joint. Still not healed but doctor wants me to start physical therapy so these exercises are greatand I will attempt them daily, as much as I can tolerate that is. Good luck with your healing!
Bending my wrist backwards is how mine broke in the first place. I will undoubtably be afraid when I have to do that one. Broke mine 1/03/21 and surgery was 3/7/21. Love your counting!
I was looking for a video on what to expect after wrist surgery and i found yours. Thank you so much for the awesome info. Now I know what to expect for therapy next week.
I am going to get my cast removed this sat (9/1/18) and start with therapy next week (9/3/18) and since my doc said I should start exercising it already, i tried looking for videos on youtube and found your video. I was there with you all the way! Thank you so much!
I don't think you're screwed... Maybe a little bit limited in the future. Never give up. I don't know how old you are and condition of your bone mass. But I think it's possible to do almost anything for every day tasks. I broke only one of my wrist bone in two and have no range of motion except my fingers have started to get a little better...I can pinch again! Its only been 2 1/2 weeks past surgery... And only 1/2 a week past sutures being removed. I went back to work on limited duties the day after suture removal. I'm not giving up. This video gave me hope... plus I'm hard headed! I'm 49 and tiny framed. So I likely have soft bones. But again... I'm not giving up.
Jackson, I had a distal radius fracture, opted for no surgery, on July the 19th. Don't feel like that. Better, start doing these exercises. The last one, fist, she says it's the esiest! Wow, I cannot do that after 3 months! Please start trying, don't give up!
I’m 3 weeks out of surgery and broke both the ulnar and radius multiple times, so I have plates and screws on both bones. I can’t feel my thumb or pointer and middle fingers. Seems like it’s gonna take forever but I see progress everyday. I am doing these same exercises and some others also. My favorite is with the digi flex. U can buy them on amazon for $15. Also u can pick up marbles
Thsnkyou. Fractured my wrist and hand 24.8.23. cast off last week in extreme pain -:panadol and nurofen not helping. Today found painkiller enabling me to complete (or attempt to 12 exercises x 5 times) daily. Blessings everyone - baby steps.
Your video helped me a lot. Glad to see that you are not as injured as I am. Broke my right wrist three weeks ago. First treatment was conservative therapy with a cast. Sadly I developed compartment syndrome. That required emergency surgery to protect muscles and nerves from too much pressure build up inside the arm. One week later surgeons closed the skin and served the fracture with a plate. Sadly during the accident my wrist was dislocated a lot causing nerve problems resulting in numbness especially in the pinky but also the thumb and pointer finger. This is now two weeks ago and I started physiology therapy as well. Your excersises are going a little further than the ones I currently got. I wish you good recovery!
Hi. Did you get back all range of motion like 6 months or 1 year after the surgery? Can you do push-ups now if you'd want to? Would really appreciate your answer! 🙏
thanks for the video .Almost same period in 2023 i got a similsr fracture and surgery. Though i am seeing it after 45 days of my surgery its still helpful and motiviating
My right wrist was fracture I feel same pain like you and same reaction... 😅😅 I love ur reaction in ur face 😍😍😍 but thank you so much dear for your own video posting... ❤️❤️❤️😊😊
Thank you so much for this video. Will do it :) I had my operation 3 weeks ago. I can barely hold a spoon and brush my teeth. My thumb seems painful and can hardly bend which is shaking as well when doing other exercises. Thanks for the tips :)
I feel your pain! I also had surgery like you and my splint just came off two days ago. The doc wrote orders for physical therapy but I am unemployed and I don’t have insurance or money for PT. So seeing the exercises your therapist have you is a God send as I will have to be my own therapist. However, my doc said leave the brace off unless I go out in public. No mention of icing it down. Your video is very helpful. Do you have a follow up video for the next step of exercises they gave you?
@@ghaliyaurs6965 I was very religious about it and it worked. Although it took at least six months before I could fully use it and a year before I could lift anything heavy. So maybe having intense therapy would get you there faster.
Thank you so much! I was so scared my wrist couldn’t bend back after cast was taken off and seeing your range of movement close to mine was so reassuring. Thank you and happy new year!
I had broken my distal radius and has implant on it now it's 4 months from surgery. I'm doing physiotherapy with wax application. It's really helpful thanks for the video. Hope you have fully recovered.
Thank you, your video is very helpful. I fractured my radius and ulna. They repaired with plate and screws. All hardware and sutures removed. Now on to PT. All movement right now very difficult.
Thank you so much for your vedio. It's very easy to follow with the person who has pain. Today's my first day & hope to stick to your vedio until I feel better.
Broke mine in 2 places 3 months ago. I enjoyed your video and I can feel your pain as you are doing the exercises. I didn't have surgery, but did the cast and splint. I also tore my rotator cuff and can't lift that arm. The wrist is doing better, but still can't bend it all the way down. The shoulder is another story.
Thank you for the video. I broke my wrist three weeks ago. And they just removed my splint and now I have to do some exercise. I’ve been working at trying to do the thumbs up, Peace sign, crossing my fingers and making a fist. The pain is unbearable. And I’m a lot less able to touch all of my fingers. I still can’t touch my ring finger or pinky finger to my thumb. But this is very helpful I did the exercises along with you. I want mobility! I know the only way to get it is by working through the pain. Thank you for the demonstration God bless I hope you’re well.
How are you doing Jefferson? I also opted for no surgery. My hand was very stiff after 2 months in cast. Have been following videos but now I will do what this video suggests. Good luck!
@@rajkatageri3162 I'm fine, thanks. The first 4-5 months were terrible, I live alone. I watched videos but didn't do much. I believe talking on the cell phone really helped since one has to keep the hand a bit turned. I'm amazed I have recovered almost 100% of the movement in the hand plus a good grip. I can't believe it. I wish you the best and take it easy. I thought I would never recover. (I had forgotten I had been watching so many videos).
@@rajkatageri3162 It took me about 4/5 months. It was a bit bad initially, because, by refusing surgery, I was kind of left out of the health system. It meant no doctor was following up. >I was on my own. I was with a cast. It is hot here. After about two months, I realized my skin could be in bad shape. So, together with a girl who helps me around the house, we decided to take the cast off. And yes, my outer skin was coming off and smelling a bit bad. I didn't put any medicine. I just washed it with some soap and let it dry. In a few days it recovered. Little by little I started using my arm, including putting underwear which had been a real nuisance. I could wash dishes (initially it was hard, and took me a long time). Everything I had to do on my own and little by little I regained movement. Let me see if I find a video by a boxing trainer, which I found very good and those exercises I did a few times. They aimed to improve circulation of the fingers. Did the doctor explain something to you when you opted for no surgery? Mine didn't explain anything. He was a bit mad. I hope you get well soon (Now, when I close doors, particularly one that was very hard for me to close with one hand, I'm so grateful it's all over!)
I have broken my wrist 3 weeks ago.Having 2 plates in and in graft. My cast is off but an in splint.Today is my 2nd day exercising at home. Will be starting Therapy next week for 6 weeks.
Almost 4 weeks after surgery I have most of my finger movement ( thumb half way down my pinky) and strength and I had laugh because I'm getting my cast off on my birthday. Thanks for sharing.
Three weeks since surgery, broken two bones in my wrist and had plate and screws x Had one week of doing similar exercises to yours .it's still quite swollen which doesn't help, the pain is awful I feel unconvinced that it will get better 😔
How do you feel now? Hand back to normal? Because I got the same problem. But mine is little more complicated, had my surgery in Chile and they put some pin to my bones from outside and along with plate and screws. Please Share your further therapy details
I am in Chile also. I was thrown from a horse and broke my left femur and my right dominant hand. I was at the Clinic in Reñaca. They put plates and screws in both. I am one week post op and I have better range of motion than this lady has so I am very fortunate. These are good excercises👌
Great help. I was told to keyboard and to lift up to 10 lb. or a Gallon of milk. I just had surgery 3 days ago. No exercises like you show I like that you did this. Thank you and love your honesty in sharing your pain..

Thank for this video - best one out there because it is not rushed and explained clearly. I broke both wrists / right wrist was dislocated break and needed plate and screws. I hope to see improvements soon - this has been a long process. How are you now? How long before you were able to drive and see improvements? Best to you and Happy New Year!
Pam Taylor thank you for your nice comment!!! Happy new year 2018 to you too!!! It took 3 months (Sept to Dec) for “full” recovery, and just recently my wrist feels much better. Broke it roller skating and had to have 6 screws and a plate. I went x2 a week to Pt. It was very tiring but worth it! Wish you the best in your recovery!!!

Thanks for the video, is my understanding correct you've been advised to start doing all of these just 5 days after surgery? In my case doc said I should wait at least 2 weeks. Did you have a plate fitted? Was it a radius bone you had broken? Thank you!
I'm 5th week after surgery, and they asked me to be with cast for 3 weeks more. My surgery was after 3 days after fracture. And i'm glad that i have to be in cast for bit longer because i'm afraif that it's to early for exercising

The wrist is little crooked, is ok? thank you. I am sure you are fine now.
I got all this to look forward to,looks painful. I'm in a plaster cast atm after shattered my Distal bone near wrist , cast to be removed this week possible & wear a removable cast
Hello, hope you are fully healed. Approx. how many weeks of therapy did you take and how many weeks did it take you to gain full function of your hand? I had surgery to repair broke ulna three weeks ago. I am wearing a removable exos brace.
I dont know how can do these exercises when you just removed the cast . Its impossible because the fingers are stiff after weeks in the cast which was put on after an operation ...

@Smokem 351 hey please answer me I have the same case here you feeling okay now and the nerve is it good now
Thank you. I had the same break as yours. Cast came off yesterday. These exercises are perfect.
I, got plaster removal today only, I will try these guidelines for sure 👍
A big thank you for putting up positive efforts 🙏🌷
TQ for this vid. It helps. Watching it in Aug, 2023. Stay safe & god bless
My right wrist was fracture I feel same pain like you and same reaction... 😅😅 I love ur reaction in ur face 😍😍😍 but thank you so much dear for your own video posting... ❤️❤️❤️😊😊
Kothandam Venktesan love your comment, Thank you!!!!💖
Thank you so much for this video. Will do it :) I had my operation 3 weeks ago. I can barely hold a spoon and brush my teeth. My thumb seems painful and can hardly bend which is shaking as well when doing other exercises. Thanks for the tips :)
I’m right along with ya sister. I feel your pain. We got this 😉
How much time per day for physical therapy or taming? Especially since the fingers are swollen and numb.
Broke my left wrist at Thanksgiving. Cast now removed. Surgery not required. Your video is helpful. Thank you for posting.
Did it work for you?? Or is it must to go to a therapist??
@@ghaliyaurs6965 I was very religious about it and it worked. Although it took at least six months before I could fully use it and a year before I could lift anything heavy. So maybe having intense therapy would get you there faster.
Thank you so much! I was so scared my wrist couldn’t bend back after cast was taken off and seeing your range of movement close to mine was so reassuring. Thank you and happy new year!
Thanks alot. Your video really helped me to regain the flexibility in my hand...post fracture. God blees
Thanks so much for sharing this video I found it very helpful. I'm finding it very hard broke my wrist in 3 places I'm going to do all these exercises
Just remove my wrist cast july 16 2024, its big help watching your exercise therapy, God bless you
You are great you are doing Physiotherapy even You are wrist break / fracture excellent video
Karina thank you for your helpful explanation just have an operation on my wrist God bless you
I had broken my distal radius and has implant on it now it's 4 months from surgery. I'm doing physiotherapy with wax application. It's really helpful thanks for the video. Hope you have fully recovered.
Please tell me about this wax application?
Even When you are doing these Physiotherapy while you are on wrist brace well done - Thanking You
Thank you for the video.
My joints in some fingers starting to crack is this overworking them? Thanks for good session much needed
Hi. Did you ever post the rest of the physical therapy after face 1. I hope your hand healed perfectly. The video is helping me a-lot
This is very very helpful. I just broke my wrist. So good to know what to expect. What about driving, have you started driving?
Thank you so much I have broke my wrist by accident. So this video is quite helpful thanks
My cast will be removed next week. Thank you for this. Mine was a closed fractured, ulna, and opted not to go on any surgery
How are you doing Jefferson? I also opted for no surgery. My hand was very stiff after 2 months in cast. Have been following videos but now I will do what this video suggests. Good luck!
@@mariacelestebustillobarraz3583 How are you doing now?
@@rajkatageri3162 I'm fine, thanks. The first 4-5 months were terrible, I live alone. I watched videos but didn't do much. I believe talking on the cell phone really helped since one has to keep the hand a bit turned. I'm amazed I have recovered almost 100% of the movement in the hand plus a good grip. I can't believe it. I wish you the best and take it easy. I thought I would never recover. (I had forgotten I had been watching so many videos).
@@mariacelestebustillobarraz3583 Please let me know how long you took to recover fully. I opted for no surgery after fracture.
Thank you so much! This was a big help for me.
Almost 4 weeks after surgery I have most of my finger movement ( thumb half way down my pinky) and strength and I had laugh because I'm getting my cast off on my birthday. Thanks for sharing.
You are most welcome!!! Wish you a speedy recovery and a happy birthday.
Ma'm pls post more video's based on medical orthopedic and physiotherapy therapy.. your video is very helpful for distal Fracture patient's
thanks for this. i am going thru this now. very helpful🙏
Three weeks since surgery, broken two bones in my wrist and had plate and screws x
Had one week of doing similar exercises to yours .it's still quite swollen which doesn't help, the pain is awful
I feel unconvinced that it will get better 😔
Dying for an update video I broke my wrist/had surgery a month ago and I get my cast off in 2 months. Would like to se how things are for you now
I broke a bone in my left hand near the thumb and this hurts but helps greatly. Thank you 🙏🏾
@John wick thanks
great video, all the ones i am finding are people with perfect movement
Really? Lifting after 3 days! ? How you doing?
Thanks. I rolled a zero turn mower over and shattered the left radius. Thanks again.
Thankyou so Much I wasnt operated on...Priceless funny story on VaCay In Cuba but the similarities are practically the same Ill be back to watch your video again ,Till I can scrunch as good as you ..Congrats
Thank you. I just started with physical therapy and this will help.
Thank you, did you have to do any other exercises after the 2 weeks or stick to the same ones?
@the Peruvian Dentist, thanks for sharing your experience with physical therapy. I just wanna ask when should one start these exercises? I had had an ORIF surgery in my wrist 5 days ago and my arm now is in a splint.
I hope u have a speedy recovery!
Hi I wanted to ask how is your wrist doing now? mine is completely stiff I wanted to know if you were able to make a video of how much better it’s doing now?
Thanks for this video. It helps a lot. How long did it take you to use your hand as normal like before the fracture. BK
oooh god im living your case it s really painful thanks for sharing
Thank you, after how many days of surgery, did u start exercises?

Me too waiting
Thank for this video - best one out there because it is not rushed and explained clearly. I broke both wrists / right wrist was dislocated break and needed plate and screws. I am 7 weeks out and start therapy tomorrow. Doing (or trying my best) to do this along with you to try to get a head start on tomorrow’s therapy. I will go to PT 3 x week for 6 weeks.
After how many month metal plate can be removed after wrist forearm surgery ?
Hi. Did you get back all range of motion like 6 months or 1 year after the surgery? Can you do push-ups now if you'd want to? Would really appreciate your answer! 🙏
You did not get any do at home exercise in the first 7 weeks? How are you these days?
Thanks for the video, is my understanding correct you've been advised to start doing all of these just 5 days after surgery? In my case doc said I should wait at least 2 weeks. Did you have a plate fitted? Was it a radius bone you had broken? Thank you!
I'm 5th week after surgery, and they asked me to be with cast for 3 weeks more. My surgery was after 3 days after fracture. And i'm glad that i have to be in cast for bit longer because i'm afraif that it's to early for exercising
@@quiquemariachi every case is different I've just seen physiotherapist and he said I can continue excersise without too much force of course. It's been 6 weeks after surgery and 3 weeks after taking off the brace I had and movement is increasing every day. Good luck!
Thanks to you... Its very helpful to me, keep uploading for the exercise and updates. Stay safe.
hi Karina, thanks for posting. I have broken wrist both radius and ulna. 1 week now after cast removed. After a few days it felt better and I just did exercises like yours by myself.
I see PT doctor in two weeks time . ( after 3 weeks cast removal as there is a queue !)
My questions, the wrist sometimes feel warm heat up on the two ends of wrists but no pain.,is it normal?
Also the doctor only saw the x-ray and said ok, cast can be removed and in the other room, nurse just took the cast off and after that not seen by anyone and got sent me home.
Thank you so much. Very Helpful indeed

Left hand wrist breaks June. Today I have done chest exercises ... Thank you
This is really a good one👏
I dont know how can do these exercises when you just removed the cast . Its impossible because the fingers are stiff after weeks in the cast which was put on after an operation ...
Your vedio is very useful in recovring wrist stiffness pl post your day2,3 and more vedios so we can take benifit of yor experience. I have also wrist facture. I am from india.
Thanks for the upload. About to have my splint removed hopefully tomorrow. Get my stitches removed and put on a brace. Physical therapy will be something I'm sure.
Hello
Is it necessary to wear cast after wrist surgery?

0ne of the places I went to for PT went too far on the extension of my wrist(palm facing away, fingers pointed up). So, I went to another place for PT and told them about it. They said to not force that movement when the wrist is swollen as it will only make the swelling worse.
