mUAHAHA I WAS EARLIER THAN YOU WHERE IS MY VICTORY COOKIE
Sam is king. Hes not cocky about his art, he’s skilled. He’s not giving mindless trashtalk to beginner painters, he’s gently telling them what they should do. He’s one of the artists that doesn’t just show off it and just genuinely has the intention of helping people get better. It’s very wholesome and these are the artists I hope to be like someday.
Artists support artists 😤💯
yeah this is also revealed by his clothing 😊
Lol I see who you meant by mindless trashtalking here 😂
@@rhodsymoncadiente2754 are they saying about Angel Dev 0V0
I didn’t mean anyone specifically...lol but he does sorta do that. Gotta give him credit for his amazing art too tho.
Sam was so calm three years ago
I study creative writing at uni and my tutor constantly says that your setting is a character. Where your scene takes place is just as important as the sentient characters within this scene. I think this translates perfectly into any form of drawing or painting too
Totally
And storytelling, writing and film making too. Oh, and games
I need this, I am the queen of bad backgrounds
🤣
id be the prom queen if having bad backgrounds was a contest~ ♫
Yes kween you dropped this 👑
Me who has never drawn backgrounds:
YALL HAVE A HIERARCHY ?!??!

Your voice is really soothing to the ears, very close to ASMR 😂. The way you paint and the tips you give makes you into a Modern Bob Ross!
Thank you very much LOL

This made me not feel so afraid of backgrounds 🥺 this was REALLY helpful thank you 😭!
YES
I more afraid at character's
Sam, that was the best advice ever. Paint your background before or at the same time as you're painting your character. This has a lot to do with the way you perceive the colors you use in your art too. Since the background probably takes up most of the space of the canvas and it is all the way around your character, its colors will have the greatest influence on the colors you will use for your character and it will help it you achieve more harmonious colors in your painting and an overall more believable lighting and atmosphere. And there's no shame in using a reference.
me trying to accept that he can see the screen crystal clear from this far away without needing glasses
I totally felt what you said about how a piece might feel like your character is standing in front of a green screen.
Most of the video: normal
The ending clip: so I’m gonna jump into it with a reference photo that I found from Pinterest and it’s got a pretty- what the *BLEEP*
LOL he had a life crisis 💀😭
The stuff I be cutting out of these videos 💀
lol my mind will forever wonder

for newbies to digital art like me, Sam's tutorials are such gems💖💖💖
I can't believe this I was just struggling right now to draw a background until I saw the notification ... wow seriously thank you this came just in time!! ❤

Oh yaay... your fbi agent takes his job seriously
@@fivesays haha that's what it seems to be 😂😂
I’m watching this video three years from when this was made, and might I say, Sam has gotten even better :]
(I’ve been watching his more recent videos and I just came to this one)
Another tip he did not point out but is extremely useful (and he’s also doing): DON’T ZOOM IN! It saves on a lot of the guesswork and helps you maintain objectivity of your reference and canvas real-estate. Also it saves you a ton of time because smaller canvas = less hand movement.
I like to put my navigator window on my other monitor so I can always see the bigger picture even when I'm working close. :)
I need to zoom in for some lines because i use my finger 😭
I need to do this more thx👏
"You gotta trust the process" best line tip ever.
Thank you for all your hard work!
Sometimes I can't believe this kind of content is available for free! You are one of my favourite artists out there and I'm so happy I can get to see your process! Thank you very much!!!
3:24 "cause we are lazy" IM WHEEEZINGGGG SO MEEEEEE
This actually made me confident about trying a background 🥺💖
I never believed in the process and now that I do everything seems easier
As someone who doesn't actually do art, this doesn't feel unaccessible so kudos to you. It's really enjoyable and easy to understand.
Dammit he's always so well dressed all the time. And his bg tip makes a lot of sense
Dude, your voice is so soothing. It's so pleasing to the ear. I could listen to you for hours
Main things I took from this video
Trust in the process
The Background is just as important as the character
Use Big shapes than make the smaller details
Makes the background fit the mood of the scene
Thank you Sam~!
great tips. i was very intimidated by backgrounds and avoiding them but realized it was something i needed to master to make my pieces more complete
I haven’t watch yet but I know it’s gonna be an amazing video and I’m early
Same here lol
THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!! I HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING TO GET THAT MOOD OF THE BACKGROUND ON TO THE CHARACTERS !!! THIS VIDEO SAVED MY LIFE !!!
🥺 Man, I really like your art... Your style is just amazing! 😍
The way u explained your process and why u do backgrounds first was so clear and helpful. Thank you!
ive started to do my drawings with these simple steps and tips you showed and they are starting to look much better, thank you!
U r my favourite artist and you have such a huge impact on my art!
this is just what i needed! ive been struggling with environment and bg paintings for a while but this vid is definitely gonna be a huge help
Sam is such a lifesaver and I cannot stress that enough. Love all the tips and advice I get from his vids!✨✍🏼
Dude, thank you for making wholesome paintings! Thank you for being humble and just straight up AWESOME!
Love your art and listening to your calm voice giving great instruction. Thank you!
wow this tutorial really boost my confidence i feel like i could really trust the process.. i love this channel thank you so much!
hit pause after 5 seconds in the video just to put down comment, thank you Sam for providing us with inspiration over and over ! ❤
Your art is insanely good. Its jaw dropping to always watch you do your art
the master of the backgrounds I love your coloring style, character style, the color palette I love everything ❤️❤️
I always start with general shapes in the background, then I paint the character and then I go back to background to add details. Otherwise I have tendency to overdo the background and paint details that won't matter or will distract focus from the character :)
Oh this is what’s wrong with my backgrounds! Thank you so much!
I always love your videos, Sam. Love youuu!
I've learned so much from you ever since I've watched your "No UNDO" video!! You're so talented and I hope you have a great day!!✨
Thanks for all the tips and motivation Sam, it gives me the spark to keep drawing ^^ ur art is absolute goals
I am glad 🥺
OMG thank u soo much. i really need this. thanks a lot sam. love your every posts.
Super helpful! I've been upping my background practice a lot lately so this video is just perfect! I usually block in my background very loosely and then start rendering the character, but I'm going to try and be more balanced with rendering both after seeing this. Thanks!
I usually just watch and take notes, but the way you work around your videos, by not rushing and literally walking us through each steps...had to like and subscribe!
I can already tell this video is going to help me. Thank you❤️
Just stumbled onto his videos recently. Love his guides, but his voice is so soothing!
Dude your work is my morning motivation 🔥🔥🔥
Just want to say after watching your videos my art has improved a lot so thank you so much!
This is amazingly helpful, thank you very very much. This has given me an entire new view on backgrounds and It's made me really motivated to try them out! Keep up the good work :D
I really love your channel, your draws and your mood .
Sam king.
hi sam, was wondering if you could do a video just on the sketching process since you always timelapse through it in most of your videos. Mostly just want to know how do you take the reference and manage to draw it fairly well without using seemingly any construction lines. Love the content :) keep it up!
i just need to hear your soothing voice everyday. its an addiction rn
Putting the "navigator" over outside the (already crowded) layers/brush/palette column has been a GAME CHANGER for me! And I picked it up just from watching this vid. Thank you!
Any one else finding themselves bobbing to the background music?
yeah bro its lit
@@mk_art1635 Does someone knows the names of the songs?
@@NadorSin I know that song! From 4:23 it's called Trenches by Nbhd Nick 😉
I never thought of doing the background first. I always do it towards the end before putting in the final details. But I always struggle with backgrounds sometimes spending hours experimenting with it. Thank you for the advice :)
I can't express how much I love his videos 😍😍😍😍😍
I've been longing for this video😊thank you so much

I'd say changing the term background to Environment is very helpful and I agree! Since I've been doing that it's been better. I also have been working as you advised in this video for a while and its great! Also I'd say don't stress too much. When I am happy and calm and believe I can do it; I do much better. Fun video thanks!
The starting and ending clip has me😂💕 Another amazing videeooo yayayay
