@@shadowdemon9043no, it's a magic Bic ballpooint pen. It's impossible to do what he did without sketching with pencil and eraser. Just kidding, he was a master to many masters out there. RIP.

I once knew a professor who could sit down with a three-dollar set of oil pastels and create a masterpiece in an hour. Understand the abilities and limitations of your creative materials and use them to your advantage. Kudos to Mr. Kim for showing that great things can be accomplished with many different instruments.

I understand that he developed those skills by drawing ALOT if not daily since a very young age but the way he interprets perspective while showcasing some sort of fisheye lens view is still a mystery to me.
I think he picks a center space of perspective when he starts and kind of webs out filling the spaces. So his focal point is either the smallest or largest and he can see the rays without actually having to draw them. That may come from an incredible amount of practice with pre sketching etc to where you just see the rays without needing to draw them anymore and pre sketching becomes no longer necessary. Im probably wrong for him specifically but if you wanted to it would probably be a route to try a bit
I used to think its the pens problem i draw bad when i was a kid. “I need a drawing pen, writing in ballpoints sucks.” Then i look at kim jung gi and i realise its my fault 😅 hes such a legend

It's great to know a master artist enjoys using ball-points for drawing as I also enjoy using the ball-point too. To think these are just "doodles" blows me away. Also a big thanks to the translator!
I know!! “Doodles?” Listen, I believe a lot of things in life can be learned and mastered with just time, dedicated, sweat, tears, motivation and the willingness to learn. However, there’s also prodigies, or people who do put in work but just “got it.” Naturally “gifted.” Like your classmate who just “gets” the math equations, or who doesn’t need to re read due to photographic memory. Even those who seem to be good at so much, who do not need to put in nearly the same time on things than some others have to (this is no way a bad thing though.) Drawing is a learned talent. However, some people just “got it.” Yes, he put in tremendously hard work, practiced and had massive amounts of dedication for his craft and what he loved. I am in no way invalidating this amazing mans effort, work, what he went through to hone his craft, please don’t take this as if I’m overlooking his passion. However, along with his tremendous hard work, he just “has it” as well. That creative eye, endless imagination and a beautiful complex mind with millions of ideas, inspiration and creativity swimming around waiting to be released via pen, paper, or stylus.
40 minutes in and he already did two nice sized pieces of artwork, stuffed with eye pleasing composition, multiple figures, loaded with details, background, settings and interest. Yet, for myself personally, there’s times where 40 minutes go by and I barely have a few mere lines on the paper, lol.
This dude has learned the very difficult art of drawing from imagination where what you imagine, you can draw. Not a lot of people can do this. There are those savants that once they see something, they can draw what they saw from memory. Truly amazing stuff. According to him, he just practiced drawing without erasures and mistakes and after thousands of drawings, it became his style. He practiced drawing the body a lot of times and studies human anatomy. After which, he can draw a person from his imagination.
Wow I always thought I needed some special pen and equipment at least something of higher quality to create shadows and stuff but its really just a normal black pen and finger. It really inspired and motivates me to train my skills as well. 😃
