It's really frightening how often there are multiple witnesses who hear someone screaming for help but don't do anything about it. Even if you don't want to go check it out yourself, at least call the police to have them check it out.

@@jenellenelson4447 as somebody who's been in situations where others needed help and where I needed help, let me tell you - it absolutely is your responsibility to get help for somebody seemingly struggling and not be a bystander. It's not easy to witness something bad, but we need to look out for others. One day, you might need other people's help as well...
And if you're really scared and don't know what to do, the least you can and have to do is call for help e.g. the police

As someone who grew up near a park in London filled with foxes, I would just assume that the screams were them. Or I would assume that someone is having way too much fun on a Friday night. I would probably have to hear LOADS of screaming or screaming accompanied by thuds or blatant words like "Help me!" or something else that really alarmed me. But I don't know. I see what you mean tho.

Hi, in my hometown of Johnstown NY a woman went missing suddenly after work. Her name is Kellisue Ackernecht. Her disappearance remains unsolved with no real leads so most of what is on the internet is speculation but the details of how her car was found is extremely eerie. Her daughter still has no idea what has happened to her mother, she is now in her mid twenties and last saw her mother when she was just a small child. It would be amazing for you to cover this case as it is so close to home for so many people in my small hometown.

I know, “You don’t know how you’d act” is true, but guys... Protect your people!
His pictures obviously look pained and I’m sure he has a lot of regrets.

It just doesn’t seem to be a thing here. It does happen but it is rare. Life sentences without parole are called ‘whole life order’ here. Otherwise a perpetrator may get a life sentence with a minimum of… ( ).
I think alot of it has to do with the fact 1- we don’t have the space (earlier this year in fact judges were even told to hold off sentence hearings until more prisoners had been released as they were so full and understaffed). 2- for some odd reason there is this thing about rehabilitation even with the most violent of perpetrators and with very little help for rehabilitation inside!

Every western country and many others do not have vengeance as the rock their system is built on. We simply understand logic, research, proven methods, etc and if something continues to fail, we move forward and make changes. The US is THE OUTLIER in the world that still believes in punishment and harsh treatment. That is evident in their very high rates of recidivism. Whereas you look to the Nordic countries, whom you would assume the prisoners are living "too well", and their very low recidivism rates. Why would we want to go backwards?? Who wants to be known as the country with 25% of its own population in prison??

    • @ummnothanks...666

The UK does impose sentences without the possibility of parole but it's very rare. Most developed countries only use life without parole in the most extreme cases. As most prisoners everywhere in the world will eventually be released, progressive countries look to rehabilitate prisoners to reduce recidivism.
Even in the US, which has one of the most backward prison systems in the world, only around a third of murderers get life without parole.

    • @alinam5092
      @alinam5092 11 месяцев назад +1

@@Dee-JayW Your comment is disgusting. So a person's life, their torturing/killing is just a small obstacle to the poor criminal's future, right? Of course the sentence should also have a punishment component (call it vengeance if you wish), besides the most important one, keeping them closed to ensure the safety of the population. You're basically saying that the family and friends of the victims should accept that those people are dead and that the poor criminal made a smaaaall mistake and deserves to be forgiven?! The idea of rehabilitation can be applied for "unintentional" crimes, for thefts, other petty crimes, not for PREMEDITED murder. And if you want to compare the USA with other countries, you have to look at the level of education, attention to mental health, economic/social aspects (even the history of a country is important), the homogeneity of the population (or the lack of), the types of crimes you have in those countries, to understand why they treat criminals differently.

Gosh Joanna seemed like such an amazing person. I feel so bad for all of her loved ones. I'm so angry at the "justice" system. Why isn't this POS being locked up her life? It's ridiculous!

The jurors 10-2?? With all the evidence, two seriously thought he was innocent or there was reasonable doubt? How daft can one be... Also, only 10 months added for the images of children? Perhaps it's my older age now but cruel and unusual punishments should be allowed and applicable to monsters.

Double homicide in Portland Victoria in 1991.
In a sleepy coastal town in Victoria, Margaret Penny was getting her hair set at "the old London" by Clare Acocks. Neither would survive and the town would change forever.

The mayor of Bristolsaying she would support them taking DNA from every man in the city if the police thought was needed is incredible but I just wish they were this proactive and passionate when it comes to missing and murder cases of POC in the UK

I was told as a kid that you should scream “FIRE” instead of “help me!” Because you’re more likely to receive help as a woman. How sad is that to have to prepare kids for.

The reason he might mention he was in her hallway could be that he was worried that he was seen there or that his fingerprints or dna was found there. He likely thought they had something for them to go to the Netherlands.
