Callum had just graduated from University and he went to the beach on Anglesey with 3 friends (including his then gf and friend Lewis). They had been fishing. Callum decided to take a swim despite the stormy conditions and got into difficulties. Lewis jumped in to help him and tragically they both drowned. It was filmed in the Hoodoo Fields, Drumheller Valley, Alberta in June 2023 (they held back the release to coincide with Callum's birthday). Such a beautiful expressive piece of music
Such a special song to pay tribute to his friend. REN is so talented and hard to believe that he is self taught on instruments. I might be wrong but still very impressive and beautiful.
I really like how you said that this piano solo tribute was “ spiritual”. I think the music was happy at times and melancholy. It’s beautiful to hear. A very hopeful composition.
Disco Doc in his reaction does a very informative mini documentary (well worth watching) on the demise of Callum Mackay & his friend Lewis Darroch who drowned trying to save him.
Beautiful melody, a composition that anchors the spirit to calmness and propels the gaze towards the future horizon!... Thanks Ren. Thank you for the reaction.
Such a special tribute in a true classic Ren spiritual way. The reactor Disco Doc has done a backstory reaction to this explaining the whole event. I remembered the tragedy once I saw the clip as it was our future King of England Prince William who was in the actual helicopter rescue team and it really had a deep effect on him. Lovely reaction from you.
Callum was fishing with 2 friends and was swept overboard and drowned. One of the friends that tried to save him also tragically drowned. Only 6 months after Joe according to what Ren wrote. He said it took him 10 years to try and write something for Callum but he kept getting writers block. Then one day sitting at his piano this came out and Ren felt it conveyed everything he was trying to find in words so he left it an instrumental. He then held onto to it and the day he released it was Callum's birthday. A day before his own birthday. Great reaction as always.
That is actually wrong! Please go and check Disco Docs reaction with a lot of interview references etc. Callum went into the (dangerous) water by himself feeling kind of invulnerable and it turned out horrably.
Great reaction such a beautiful song - if you want to no the story behind Callum McKay and want to no why a member of the royal family was devastated by the tradady Go and watch the beginning of disco Doc's - McKay on his channel love and respect from the UK 👍👍😀😀🌟 amazing channel 👍

OMG... how tragic! Thank you for that info!
Bandcamp let me buy the song and leave a donation to Ren so I did both. A beautiful tribute to a friend lost too young. Thank you for your reaction.
Thanks for listening! Ren offers us so much. He's a very rare human.

@@szolanek What do you mean?
I live in a city in northwestern Ontario Canada, beside Mount McKay, supposedly an ancient volcano. Beautiful song.
Such a simple motif, but works so well. Hauntingly beautiful.
That was beautiful rip to his friend
Amen 🙏

I don't know if you are familiar with the neo-Classical composer Max Richter but this reminds me a lot of him.
I'm not sure... I'll have to look him up!
