Welch is his first language. English, his second. He is amazing with both music and lyrics. This song is something I can relate to. I have had 5 major spine surgeries. All failed. I saw a lot from my bed. I feel like I raised my son from my bed.
This song is so much better than a lot of people realize. Ren say "66 followed by 6 and 7." Not only is it a 666 reference, but 6 and 7 make 13, which is how long Ren has been sick, and it's also the date that Ren released the album (Friday the 13th). The song also has 7 verses, which start right after Ren says the line "Sick boi, sick boi, sever my sins." The verses conclude with an eighth verse that explains the seven sins.
Also "The idiomatic phrase at sixes and sevens is meant to describe a state of confusion, disarray, disorder, or a situation marked by chaos or disagreement," according to Grammarist.
The opening is in Ren's native language of Welsh & Ren explains it as his version of a living eulogy. Loosely translated from Welsh he says: sickness is my teacher it broke my smile my bones feel old here lays Ren's body
@@MrsRealistic I don't think that's right. When he raised money from the song Suic*de recently, he went to give it to the RNLI, the lifeboat search and rescue charity on Anglesea, the island where he grew up. He also gave some money to his friend Joe's parents from the sales of his Freckled Angels album. He did an instagram short in Welsh, saying he was going to be on the news and he was nervous because he hadn't spoken much Welsh in about 10 years, so he was a bit rusty. He also said elsewhere that in school they studied the Bible in Welsh. Sounds like he used to be pretty fluent but hasn't used it so much recently.
The Welsh are very proud of their language and culture. I've been on holiday in North Wales quite often and in the communities there it is widely spoken as an everyday language
Ren is my fav music as well. 66 yrs old and he is the first artist I have been compelled to follow since the late 80's. Not only does he bend genres, he bridges age gaps. Thank you for your care in reaction. ❤
Welsh is not a lost language. About 30% of the Welsh population can speak it. There are Welsh-language schools where lessons in all subjects are taught in Welsh. They also have a Welsh-language TV channel (S4C) to preserve/promote the language. (Ren has admitted/accepted that John Lennon didn't write Let It Be - that was a Paul McCartney song)
Oh cool! That's great! I was thinking Gaelic at that point because I know that's a language many people don't speak anymore... but I was mixing up the two lol!
You were very close. Irish, Scottish and Manx are Gaelic. Welsh, Cornish & Breton are Britonnic. They have a lot of similarities. The former are known as Q Celt and the latter as P Celt. But they are both descended from Celtic languages@@MrsRealistic
This one of the few songs he wrote while he was in Canada getting treatment, i think this one and Money Game Part 3 was the other one that he wrote from scratch this year
This was written recently....'Everybody drops' is another song that was written about how he felt early doors when he fought his illness and was written a few years back now.
6 and 7 seven =13 years and he is still sick after all this time. We are fortunate to still have Ren with us. He knows his life will never be the same, pray he doesn't have a stroke.
I also have severe chronic pain and other issues/diseases. Pain is terrible and depression does kick in and I also ask my God sometimes why me and will it ever stop. I know it won’t but Ren is keeping me busy so I’m not thinking about it all the time. Love your reactions ❤
Great reaction, you've probably already been told but this is the last song he wrote for the album, this and mg3 are the only 2 he wrote this year, his songwriting and production has kicked on a level, which is just mindblowing
Awesome reaction. You HAVE to listen to Ren's new interview this week on the Zack Sang Show. Ren talks about this song amongst other things. Get a tissue. Best interview ever.
Seven Sins is a beautiful way to open and introduce the album. Though most of this album was previously released, these few new tracks are amazingly cohesive and work well to round out the whole experience.
This one was written recently, just prior to releasing the album. This and Money Game Part 3, were the only ones written recently. It started out as an intro to the album, and wasn’t intended to be a complete song, but it progressively got longer and more complex. He said the original stopped about where the who switch up is when the “drill” style beat kicks in. It shows how much more complex his writing has gotten from what it was 2 years ago, when the majority of the other stuff was written. All of it is brilliant, but this one is next level for me.
Loved your breakdown of this song. I'm a Prince fan and one of his biggest strengths was telling a story, setting a scene and it was when i found Ren that i see an artist with these same qualities. His lyrics, word play and how he has callbacks, and ties things together is of an exceptional level.
"working part time at the 5 & dime, my boss was Mr MacGee. he told me several times, he didn't like my kind, I was a bit too leisurely" I love Raspberry Beret because it's a story and I can sing along with it 😁
I knew you would love it, I blast this in my car along with his new album (sick boi) as well as (freckled angels) and his (Demo volume 1 and 2). The genre is all so different between all the songs. This was actually made in 2023 along with MG3. The other songs on the album were made 2-3 yrs ago. Hi Ren was made toward the end of 2022. He is the most gifted artist I have heard in my many yrs of listening to music. He is authentic, true and has a beautiful heart. Great reaction and it doesn't need a video because there is so much to pay attention to without a video to worry about.
I am fluent in WELSH 🏴🏴 The more easy you go, the less people speak it, I am from south west wales near Swansea, it is such a beautiful language, and is still evolving to this day. Anyway this album is amazing and great reaction
Thank you! Yes, it's a really cool language. My dad can't speak it... he was born and raised in Wolverhampton, until they moved to Canada when he was 13.
There is an abundance of religious references in this song. In the lyrics "Have you ever felt pain? A rose emerges from the pavement cracks..." ("Fallen through the cracks of the night sky"-Ren, Suicide) I had been thinking every mother has felt the pain of childbirth. The rose is symbolic of the Virgin Mary in the Catholic Church or a red rose is symbolic of a martyr. Cathedrals have "rose" stained glass windows featuring the Virgin Mary. Stained glass windows also immortalize Martyrs and feature the 7 virtues and the seven deadly sins. "I'll write my eulogy with broken glass" What does everyone think this means? Is this only a reference to the surviving Ren writing his own eulogy with pieces of the mirror he has smashed after killing his dark side? Or is he saying he will go out fighting and there will be broken glass or another Night of Broken Glass the day he meets his end? There is a play by Arthur Miller "Broken Glass" about a couple where the wife becomes paralyzed from the waste down (like Jimmy in Money Game 3) after reading about The Night of Broken Glass and the husband works at a Wall Street bank foreclosing loans. "And if you want it, I'll deny it like a mortgage loan."-Ren Also, there is a main character "Broken Glass" in the novel of the same name by Alain Mabanckou where the narration evidently is done without full stops using only commas. The story takes place in the Republic of the Congo. "'Papa was king of the Congo...Cause I'm the king of bongo, baby"-Ren Cover of Bongo Bong. There seem to be parallels with this novel to what Ren is trying to do focusing the public on social issues.
Stones and sticks may break my bones, but words can never hurt me. With death, life is always flirting. You can't feel alive unless you've first felt hurting. Pain can't stay when it's numbed just right. With no feeling, it's hard to see the light, at the end of the tunnel, and funneled vision. I can't see now without logic yet with gains of knowledge and numbness turn diabolic. Diabolicaly, the mind starts to split, then splits open a new sense revealed. The 3rd eye is unsealed, and with it, a new obstacle you'll find. Another side of you is when your mind is split into 2 a shadow and a light. The shadow is scarier, the brighter you shine cause the brighter the light the larger the shadow. I can't fight it, though. got to embrace it, but nobody wins cause it's not a race. it's a test of love. As above, so below must mean heaven and hell are one and the same, though... so better we are all better of consuming our shadow while letting our light glow bright like a halo. An eternal dance finding delight within fright, thrill of adrenaline with every fight. Only sadness when love is lost like everyone who loved jesus when they saw him on the cross. The cyclical nature will never end until the beginning of the end of all ends, ends all beginnings. Love will prosper if we are willing. If not, then at least the ferrymans toll is only 2 shillings.
Thanks for reviewing this one. This is my favorite Ren song. I’ve listen to the album through probably 30 times now and each time I hit repeat on this song two or three times.
Anyone who can pronounce the name of a city near his home town called: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch Is bound to be able to play with words like he does! Here all we had to do as kids was spell and say Mississippi correctly! Lol
For me a pure masterpiece of music and lyrics. It's perfect, my favorite and I will listen to it at once daily, almost making me feel less pain remembering what he went through. I'm not perfect, hell no. 75 years old and a lot of mistakes through the years, but I am so glad I don't relate to ALL seven sins.
The old way of thinking is what got us here in the first place, the system needs to be rethink but modifying what gives worth to a human being instead of money another token of value one that is not solvable
So true... and it just seems to get worse the more social media pushes the "keeping up with the jonses" narrative... people are less happy with what they have, and always want MORE! No one is content or grateful anymore.
Again, thank you. I haven't spent much time outside of Christian music since the 80s and stumbled onto both Ren and reaction videos only in the last month...I have been binging on both since then...I will be back.
7D.S.: pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony and sloth. I'd say great reaction, but hey! pride is No.1 on the list. I wonder where being a cheeky * fits in?
Really great reaction. Fear of the unknown - so often played upon, but really as Krishnamurti said it's actually fear of losing the known. Having nothing to loose the unknown is an opportunity 😊The lyrics just outstanding in this one.
I just love listening to your wise words said in you outstanding voice. ❤ I thought "Lost all faith" will be the best one from this album, but this one left me, as you said, gobsmacked. Next level stuff. I would just like to stress one thing that Ren also tirelessly stresses. It is not the elites, it's all of us. "versions of you, there's no escaping the blame" as he says in MG3.
Aww thank you! That's very kind (I personally hate my voice lol!) You stated it very well, and as I pointed out, it's we as a society that are guilty of it as well. Altho it IS the elite who run the show and affect our economy, the "rules" etc...and we can't just give them carte blanche. If everyone pulled their heads out long enough to see the corruption, maybe "we the people" could finally change things. There's A LOT of us, and only a few of them. 💪
Ren is such an amazing human being, deep and so genuine, I feel my musical journey is becoming complete having found this genius...my journey started with The Beatles through to Motown and Philly and now " Ren" . Lovely reaction and you truly hit all the positives to perfection, thank you.
Ren speaks Welsh, not Gaelic. Welsh is still very alive in Wales and other parts of Britain, and is taught in Welsh schools. Gaelic is spoken in Scotland and Ireland, and is also still very much alive.
I realized that after I recorded it (I added that in my edit). I have read that Gaelic is being lost more so than Welsh... but I think also more in Scotland than Ireland. I'll have to ask my dad if he was taught that in school back in the 50's. He grew up in Wolverhampton.
Great reaction again. No it's not too long of a reaction. This is one of my favourites from the album. I've ordered mine, cd form. Waiting for it to be posted. It's Spring here, so beautiful sunny day with trees blossoming. I'm in New Zealand btw.
Thank you! We're still green over here in Texas... but it's just starting to cool down finally, and a few leaves falling lol! I bet it's beautiful where you are right now! God bless!
One of my favorite groups is Nightwish where whichever song I am actively and currently listening to is my favorite. Ren is the same as far a favorite song in that whichever song I am currently experiencing, listening, and in the case of videos is my favorite although I seem to be drawn to the acoustic versions since they seem to emotionally connect more even though I enjoy the produced versions as well.
This song is so good! When the album was released I listened to some of the songs, specially those that hadn't been released early on repeat and this song was one of them. 🤓🇸🇪
1:20 Love your taste! This is my new favorite Ren song. I've heard it over 50 times! Edit: 3:33 LOL, I'm glad I'm not the only one and that you agree. That is funny I complimented your taste BEFORE you agreed with me whole heartly haha! 6:15 As Ren does so great he talks about BOTH spectrums... Where he will be laid to rest A bed that is his Tomb but ALSO a bed that SPAWNS his troubles like Birthing them out of the womb. The bed is his tomb and womb of revolving agony...
12:00 It was a a triple.... xD!! 666 followed by 7. 7 Sins BUT also 6 and 7 =13 (His lucky number and day the album dropped Fri the 13th. Hence the beginning of the song where he says lucky number 13 just my luck). Ren has many connection to the number 13 I believe.
Someone else had pointed that out too! Such a good catch! I suppose since 666 is the number of the beast...the devil, and the 7 sins coming after 666...plus equalling 13...it all rolls into just a delicious word play!
The vid below kills me every time I watch it. OMG what our Ren went through 😢 This was two years before the stem cell transplant that saved him. He was in - or headed into - the deepest part of his misery. This short video breaks my heart. ruclips.net/video/jaltehH_cNo/видео.html
"Does Ren know everything ?" Pretty much. He is incredibly well read & Im convinced he is an intellectual genius as well as a musical one
I totally feel the same way. He's quick as a whip!
Welch is his first language. English, his second. He is amazing with both music and lyrics. This song is something I can relate to. I have had 5 major spine surgeries. All failed. I saw a lot from my bed. I feel like I raised my son from my bed.

15:20 Same, girl. I'll be 53 next Friday. Great reaction
Happy early birthday! I'm 48... my hubby is 53 😊
Wonderful reaction thank you ❤
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Close, Welsh...
Yes, I added that in the video 😉👍😁
Fantastic intelligent reaction. Ta.
Thanks so much! My Nan used to say "Ta". 🤗 May she rest in peace. 💔 🙏
😮 this a master peice! He's soo talented!😊😊
It's become one of my all time favorites from Ren!
I just love listening to your wise words said in you outstanding voice. ❤
I thought "Lost all faith" will be the best one from this album, but this one left me, as you said, gobsmacked.
ive said it before but you are such an intelligent reactor. love your insight
Aww, thank you, that's so kind! 😊🙏
Amazing track. Ren did say he may do a video for Seven Sins. I do hope so.
Oh I hope so! His last few vids have been amazing!
Best reacrion i have seen to this song thanks! For-Ren-Sick is my fav line.
That's so kind, thank you! God bless 🙏
another foRensick on this amazing reaction. He is sooo good !
I listen to this song when I work out now! 😄
@@MrsRealistic gobsmacked : a new word in my vocabulary > 100 % agreed
@@didierblasco8116 It's an English term 😉 I've got a few 'isms from my Nan, Granddad and Dad. 😊
Yes! This is a masterpiece. His words hit so hard. Thanks for this reaction Mrs. R.
My pleasure!! This one has me hooked big time!!
Ren is such an amazing human being, deep and so genuine, I feel my musical journey is becoming complete having found this genius...my journey started with The Beatles through to Motown and Philly and now " Ren" . Lovely reaction and you truly hit all the positives to perfection, thank you.
Absolutely! I'm so thankful that I've been introduced to his amazing talent. It's by far some of the most amazing music I've ever heard.
this is one of my favourites of the album thank you for reacting to this ❤❤
It's my new favorite too...I can't get over how good it is!
Sorry for the disturbance but you have to check out Ren's reaction to Harry Mack's tribute freestyle about him. Keep it going! :)
I saw it today! It was wonderful! Ren was so elated! What an epic tribute!
I just knew you would love this song. I agree that it is one of his best. Lyrically and musically.
I can't even describe how much I love it lol!!
@@MrsRealistic Likewise
@@jeanwyenberg2774 I listened to it while I worked out AND on the treadmill today 😁😆
Kendrick Lamar "Humble"
🔥🔥
✌️❤️
I realized that later after I finished the reaction (I added it in the edit)😉
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and insights on this one. Been enjoying your Ren reactions.
Thanks so much! I appreciate it! 🙏
Have you seen the video he put out right before Hi Ren? It's not a song, it's a video he made year's ago before he found out he has lyme Disease
I don't think so! Do you have a link?
@@MrsRealistic There's a good chance RUclips will delete my comment with the link so I'll put it in a comment on it's own, it should be under this one

Ren❤❤❤❤
Great reaction again. No it's not too long of a reaction. This is one of my favourites from the album.
I've ordered mine, cd form. Waiting for it to be posted.
It's Spring here, so beautiful sunny day with trees blossoming. I'm in New Zealand btw.
Thank you! We're still green over here in Texas... but it's just starting to cool down finally, and a few leaves falling lol! I bet it's beautiful where you are right now! God bless!
Awesome reaction!
Thank you!
I feel the same way about acoustic...it's always spoken to me...perhaps because of my growing up with a lot of classical music.
This song is so good! When the album was released I listened to some of the songs, specially those that hadn't been released early on repeat and this song was one of them.
🤓🇸🇪
It's going on my playlist 100%!
Wow deep
Definitely multiples:)
This is🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.Thanks❤
Thank you!!
Serafin in reference to the tale of Icarus
That's what I was thinking! 🎯
A modern psalm.
So true!!
Your rite every one is my favorite too! 😉 subbing!!!
Haha! I'm glad I'm not alone! Thanks 😊 🙏
I loved your reaction video. Well done 👏 ❤
Thank you so much!! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I have to look through your playlist and see if you have reacted to 'Hold On"
I have! 😁👍
Great minds think alike LOL!
Someone else had pointed that out too! Such a good catch! I suppose since 666 is the number of the beast...the devil, and the 7 sins coming after 666...plus equalling 13...it all rolls into just a delicious word play!
His bed was also the womb for this album, and the rest of his diverse, "messy" songwriting career.
Cymru 🏴 am byth ❤
Nice reaction
Thank you 😁🙏
Just caught For Ren Sic...........so clever !
🔥🔥🔥🔥
😊 enjoyed
Thanks Amy! 😊🙏
666..followed by 7 (6+7 = 13 . Ren has been sick for 13yrs. He also released his album on the 13th.) Nothing Ren writes is surface level. :)
I've definitely learned that about him!! 😁👍
The vid below kills me every time I watch it. OMG what our Ren went through 😢 This was two years before the stem cell transplant that saved him. He was in - or headed into - the deepest part of his misery. This short video breaks my heart.

So heartbreaking to watch that. The years that were supposed to be his best... stolen by Lyme disease. 😔
