I was binging the series a few years back and noticed that Lex seemed to get thrown across his office and smashed through his glass coffee table just about every other episode. You'd think that maybe after the 20th time, he'd stop buying glass coffee tables and just start furnishing with bean bags. My brother theorized that getting smashed through a glass coffee table was Lex's kink and that he used his super-intellect to engineer situations that would result in him getting thrown across his office and through the coffee table.
I just can't maintain any real interest in what Allison Mack is like IRL, it's not like we're friends. The day _Smallville_ ended I stopped paying attention to her completely. But I agree, the show's creation of Chloe was one of its best additions to the mythos, and one I wouldn't have expected would work so well.
Chloe was fine in the beginning but when they started to dumb Clark down to make her relevant the character expiration date was due. Clark Was just a dumb jock who smashed stuff while she solved all of the crimes. I mean how did they expect us to believe Clark Kent was going to grow up and be one of the world's best investigative reporters if he was dumb as a brick! When Chloe found out his secret Clark the main character became the muscle-bound idiot! Clark literally had the krypton language downloaded in his brain but he still needs her to explain things for him. The real kicker was when she had to teach him how to use one of his powers super breath! That was ridiculous not to mention the fact that she could hack into any government computer with a normal laptop! Don't get me started on how they made her practically Lois lane in the first 3 seasons but when the real Lois Lane joined the show she had to be a different character because you could have two similar characters. Just like Clark, it was hard to believe Lois was going to be the world's best Investigative reporter when they never showed her remotely having any interest in reporting and the fact that she was dumb as a brick! All of the characteristics that belong to Lois and Clark were given to there made up character Chloe!
She started out as a fine addition, to be the inquisitive friend who inspired Clark to become a reporter. But she got lost during the transition from Smallville to Metropolis. By then, Lois had started her journalism career and made her superfluous. That's why they had Brianiac use her and rewire her brain to make her super hacker. She became a lazy plot device after that. Marrying Jimmy, befriending Doomsday, dating Green Arrow, and becoming Watchtower were just ways to keep Clark's BFF relevant as the show changed. Keeping her around just showed how one-dimensional Clark was, as a hero and as a reporter. The b.s. information she was able to uncover was ludicrous. Honestly, she should have died back when she was a reporter to give her truth-seeking some stakes. Like they did with Pete Ross, when they showed the strain of keeping Clark's secret. But she lingered on, just to give Clark someone to talk to about Lois.
That was... odd. I had mixed feelings about all of that, TBH. It never stopped feeling a little awkward to me. Then again, I suppose we have _Smallville_ to thank, at least in part, for John Wesley Shipp ending up on _The Flash_ as as Barry's dad...
The cameos were amazing! Dean Cain as Curtis Knox(aka Vandal Savage) and Teri Hatcher as Lois' mom (Clark & Lois from the new adventures of superman) were great imo. And my sister loved Tom Wopat as senator Jennings.(Both he & John Schnider started in Dukes of Hazzard, shes a fan)
As a Smallville OG fan, I'm surprised that no one brought up Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor. He's the best Lex Luthor and I think that in some seasons, its good that (in some viewings), that Lex is the hero and Clark is the villain.
The one great thing they added was having Jor-El visit Smallville as a youth and remembering it was a safe place so him sending Kal-El (Clark) to Smallville (and near the Kent farm) intentionally kind of solves some issues with the randomness of his arrival in other lore. He was sent to the Kents on purpose, not by accident.
I thought it was interesting how they made Jor El kinda sadistic like he branded Clark with a symbol on his chest in S3 then made a deal with Johnathan to get Clark back only to kill Johnathan later on
tbh, i personally felt john kents choice to step up in the community and run for a seat in senate was inkeeping with his character, however I agree martha's massive divergence as an espionage figure was off base and ridiculous.
I disagree because it stupidly put the Kent's in the public eye. Their main priority was to protect Clark's secret. So having them suddenly attract attention was very out of character IMO. Reckoning was the perfect chance to write Lana off the show and have Clark move on. But they chose to kill off JK instead who had way more weight to his development.
Except....that considering Jonathan’s guilt of helping Lionel get a “foothold” in Smallville (in first place) and seeing the damage that has caused over years, then after learning of Lex’s bid for Senate...which one can only assume would lead to even more damage...... It’s very much in Jonathan’s nature to “have to do something about it” and it’s definitely not in Jonathan’s nature to engage in a simple “smear campaign to sway votes away from Lex”. So, with no one else worthy that was stepping up to oppose Lex, Jonathan stepped up. As far as Jonathan and Martha’s duty to protect Clark...that is certainly viable, but it’s also typical of a “tough as nails old farmers” to often bite off more than they can chew.
In Smallville Martha Kent was actually the brilliant ivy league law student ,she gave up everything to be with Kent ,considering her father was also well known lawyear so its a good calculation for her to go for that job & don't forget Lionel luthor must have some parts to play so that their secrets are kept on safe hands
@@openmind2161 not saying her stepping in when Kent died was wrong, just what happened after with the whole red queen nonsense and dubious moral choices
@@RogueVideo you do realize the actress that's playing the character doesn't do the same stuff in real life you do know that right so yes it is a complete shock
The actress wasn’t weird, she is a criminal!!! She belongs in jail. Aiding and abating in the abuse and rapes of women makes her less then a woman. I bet the cult had a way in making her character last as long as it has.
@Benjamin Gordon that is not the case. They were going to pay him but it wasn't that much. They refused to show him the script but the actual reason he never did it was because he had a relative in hospital
Sure, his parents may be the source of his humility, but that isn't nearly as important as them being the source of his MORALITY. That's why they're an integral part of the Superman mythos.
I'd throw in Tess Mercer as a positive from this show. Filling Michael Rosenbaum's shoes was no easy feat, but Cassidy Freeman did a great job playing a mash-up of Eve Tessmacher and Mercy Graves to take over Luthorcorp. She started out teetering the line of villain to Clark, but later became his ally.
He was basically the Christopher Reeve Superman in Superman returns. Also, he'll be reprising his role as Superman in the upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths arrowverse crossover event.
@@jackwells8107 Multiverse dude. he could be both. He's going to reprise his role as Clark in the upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths arrowverse crossover and Lucifer Morningstar from the fantastic show called Lucifer is rumored to be in it as well. Hell, its practically confirmed because Tom Ellis never wears a suit except when he's portraying Lucifer and he was seen on the set of the Crossover event. He denied it, sure, but he was undoubtedly ordered to do so.
Also, the addition of Chloe Sullivan was an improvement. Her investigative nature is one of the reasons Clark got involved in helping people. She started to notice meteor infected people and he felt responsible
I recall red kyrptonite going back to comics in the 1970s and possibly 1980s. There was another color that did random things. I want to say it was blue for some reason. There are dozens of types of Kryptonite. The horrid Superman 3 came up with basically an artificial version of red kryptonite that had the same effect. Which ended up the only one cool scene that was tolerable in the whole movie the Junk Yard fight with superman "fighting" Clark.
I think they wrote Darkseid correctly. Darkseid's true size to scale is equivalent to a star. He has to either necromance the living/dead or adjust his size to exist on Earth.

@@smackdowner Doomsday in Smallville was infinitely better than in BvS(where appearance is concerned). I'm not very mad about the short fight, because fights in Smallville tend to only be 2 minutes or 3 minutes max. sad, but understandable.
Yep. It also makes perfect sense that the pragmatic Kryptonian we actually agree with chose Lionel as his vessel. In Season 3 of Dean Cain's Lois and Clark, 2 friendly Kryptonians visit and they (unintentionally obviously) give some pretty great insight into why Jor'el was so 'dispassionate' with Clark in this series. With thier example/dialogue in mind you could see Lionel being almost Kryptonian in his raising of Lex. Basically they choose whatever is expedient and think Earth and humans are a sloppy planet too led by thier emotions.
That finale was one of the most disappointing episodes of television ever! Darkseid beaten in one blow. No scene with him in costume. Lex forgets everything but still has the same personality for reasons.
@Michael Ross To be quite sad...what you see is an avatar of darksieds power...darksied himself is bigger than our universe and would obliterate it if he was to step inside. Unless they changed it in the comics which wouldn't surprise me
has practically nobody read the season 11 comic? Darkseid was explained, Tess was brought back, and Lex was more like the Lex we saw in seasons 1-3 and most of 4 with him being a good guy. However, Clark had lost all hope for Lex and refused to trust him again after being betrayed like he was in season 5 & the end of season 7.
I agree with all except the last one. They made it clear from day 1 that there would be no tights no flights, so I thought they ended it brilliantly, honouring this vision and yet still letting us get a glimpse.
I've always disagreed with everyone who says he should've become Superman earlier, the show was more of a prequel/origin and was all about his journey into becoming the Man of Steel, had he put on the suit and became Superman earlier it would've went against it being a prequel, and saving it till the finale was the only logical thing to do. Though it is weird that by that point he's already basically started the Justice League, faught Doomsday, Zod, and Darkseid sort of (which was kind of dumb tbh) and is already with Lois and all this other stuff, I didn't mind it. I loved Smallville, I'm not usually a fan of Superman but the Smallville and DCAU versions are awesome. Plus we have the S11 comic that brings Batman and Wonder Woman into the Smallville universe which is amazing.
To that end (that this was a prequel to the Superman mythos), they should have ended the show much earlier. The longer he didn't "embrace his destiny", the more he seemed like an indecisive and wishy-washy hero, not an inspiration for heroes everywhere. But they didn't. And it put the character in a weird spot.
I think having the entire Justice League before he was Superman was a clear sign the show had outlasted it's original plan. I think they should have made him Superman right after college and called it a series but it was too successful for it's own good.
Seriously, this show became what it is now because of Lionel Luthor and Lex Luthor. These were the very best aspects of the show. Will CW ever make another superhero show as good as this one? We may nev.... No, they wont :P
he actually remembered everything, but his mind was erased by Lutessa Lena Luthor aka Tess Mercer. An obvious combo of Lena and Mercy Graves. I like that she ended up a good guy, and I hope that Lena does in Supergirl instead of following the Luthor formula where all Luthors are evil. I also hope that Lena and Supergirl makeup and end up in a romantic relationship together.
They did such a great job with Lex and Clarks friendship that I constantly was having hope theyd end up working things out, despite knowing...you know, they definitely wouldn't.
I read somewhere, and I personally agree with it, that Tom not knowing much about Superman was good. He didn't try too hard or over play it, and Tom was finding out about Superman as Clark was finding out about himself.
Tom not knowing much about Superman was a good thing. It made his portrayal of Clark Kent that much more impactful and realistic. But when Clark starting wearing the Crest, dealing with Zod and the Book of RAO...In other words when he became Kal-El without becoming Superman yet. You started wondering what they were waiting for. Tom was executive producer for the last 2 seasons and honestly, it shows. Not taking sides, just saying it's there.
but that's only because Smalliville's Clark runs fast, as one of his initial powers. In every other version of young Clark Kent, he didn't have a pyschological block to flying or a plot device to make him not fly, if he needed to learn that as a pre-teen or teen.
although they really didn't change anything about her, I liked Smallville's version of Kara Zor-eL, or Supergirl and wanted that actress to have her own show
Absolutely loved Laura Vandervoort as Smallville's Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. Her version started the whole "Protect my cousin" trope in live action which carried to the show version. Would have Truly loved for Laura to have had her own show.
I enjoyed watching Smallville in my early 20's. The 90's Superman T.V. series called Louis and Clark the adventures of Superman starring Dean Cain were better & NO-ONE can beat the late great Christopher Reve for playing Superman {in the original Movie versions}. 👨🏫🦸♂️📺📅 🎭🦸♂️😢
One of my favorite series and definitely my favorite superhero series. 10 seasons and still it was interesting. Most shows can barely keep it interesting after their 5th season. I loved this show.
I actually think it went on WAY too long. Plus in order to keep it on the air, they had to go against the original purpose of the show. To focus on Clark BEFORE Superman. We never should've had Lois/Clark, the Daily Planet, all the Superman villains, etc.. Plus what cracks me up is both Lois and Clark were able to become reporters at the DP as college dropouts with no reporting experience.
"The difference between modern mythology such as his and classic mythology like Achilles is that Superman adapts to the times" Gilgamesh with either King Arthur or Excalibur: Am I a joke to you?
1. The meteor shower: you missed that it also explains how the Kent's could adopt a kid out of no where. That his records and paper trail were destroyed/lost in the meteor shower's carnage.
Clark got a montage of his trials on Earth, which gave him the clarity to finally fly, become Superman & stop the necromancy of the living or dead on Earth by Darkseid. How could the Smallville series end any better than that?
@@Kentrc11 people are salty because Tom didn't wear the suit. To be honest Superman being my only fav superhero i never liked his suit (the red underwear over the suit) but The new suit which Henry wore is cool and awesome. I am grateful that Tom never wore the suit because now i don't have anything to compare him with Henry the perfect Superman because I like Tom as the perfect Clark Kent and i wanted him to get the Man of Steel role so bad but when i saw Henry in suit made me happy.
I don’t get it, we knew from the beginning that this was a story about his journey to becoming superman. It was very clear that we were not going to see him as superman. I know there was also some very thight restriction in licensing before the series got the go.
This TV show was one of the best one and almost all the actors made this TV show love by a lot of people. Michael should be the lex luthor on the screen
Agreed and it makes sense. Eventually Clark would be caught heroing and "The Blur" was the alias given to him by the Planet because it looked like a blur of color saving Lois.
I loved this show. I agree that the ending limply created the red and blue superman we recognize. I thought the blur was a great way of keeping his identity secret as he began to explore what it takes to be a superhero while being simultaneously easy to drop out of memory so that it doesn't interfere with who he became.
I disagree with some of those fails. While we didn't see superman I think the ending to the series was amazing. Maybe it's because I'm not a hard-core superman fan but seeing all the pieces fall together gave the show a uniqueness and overall fulfilling quality. I didn't even notice the kid at mommy's funeral and was surprised when the younger brother turned up during the time jump. Smallville tied up it's loose ends and was a blast. A little bitter sweet tho, I always wanted Lex and Clark to be friends but that would never happen...
They're bringing Smallville characters back for the Cw's Crisis on Infinite Earths event. Whether they do it justice remains to be seen. They plan on having a guy with a bow and arrow be the main star and hero of the thing it looks like.
Flash will get the main importance as that is the most viewed show in that universe. Honestly the entire universe is badly written. All the shows are good for like 3 seasons max and become complete garbage afterwards. Wonder why they can't hire good writers.
blank 003 That's what I was hoping because while Flash isn't my favorite CW show and most of the characters on the show aren't very likeable or relatable, they're more likeable than the characters on Arrow. And I like Barry more than the Cw's version of Oliver Queen. Plus it just makes more sense to make for Barry to be the star and hero as he's better versed in multiversal affairs and navigation and powerful forces than Oliver Queen who can barely deal with street level affairs and navigation. But while Flash getting more focus is better than Oliver getting more focus it's still questionable because this is Crisis not Flash or Arrow or Supergirl or Batwoman or Legends. It's Crisis. It needs to be about everyone. As for the shows I don't particularly care for them. The characters can be unlikeable, unrelatable, and can often shallow and lifeless. All of that could be attributed to a combination of acting, writing, and direction not working very well in conjunction with each other. The way the shows pad themselves to death could probably be a factor that hurts the quality. If things were more serialized then the actors directors and writers might take their work more seriously. Their focus would make things alot better. I think the padding plays a huge role in things being the way they are. It's one of the reasons I can't even give the kind of praise people give to seasons 1 and 2 of Arrow. Because when they weren't focusing on the main story and padding things and stuff the majority of those seasons were a chore. Maybe the padding was necessary for character development but with the mostly monotone acting and lack of relatability the characters had as far as their stories it was difficult to deal with and I find myself wishing I hadn't watched. It just felt like alot if teen drama just done with adults. Only show I consistently praise and look forward to on CW is Black Lightning. It's has a more serialized me method resulting in more straight forward storytelling. Fight scenes aren't particularly amazing but in terms of narrative and tone and characters it's great. The characters feel like real people. The world they live in feels like a real world that just happens to have strange phenomenon. The other shows everyone just feels like heroes and lovers as opposed to more well rounded people who live and interact in a realistic world. They feel more like Heroes vs Villains/romance whereas Black Lightning feels more like Heroes vs life. It pushes the envelope more and can get controversial but I think that's apart of it's charm. It's more adult viewing. The other shows are geared more for teens and children. I'm afraid the show will lose all that since it's crossing over with the other shows and who knows effect that will have on it.
@@MrWolfchamp-xi3cu the main problem for me in flash is some of the dialogue just makes me turn my head and do a 360 degree spin. Iris literally says that barry is being immature because he isn't giving the guy that killed his motger in front of him another chance even though he apologised. They also said that taking away the powers of terrorists without their consent is bad somehow. Real people don't think like this. I can deal with 2 dimensional good guys like luke who are righteous heroes without nuch else, but this is just peppe the pig at this point. Also they have a weird habit of turning every show into a team super hero show within 4 seasons. It isn't the flash, its a group of super heroes that share the spotlight.
@@blank003 You're talking about season 5 right? I think you're talking about that rogues episode right? And also I don't think I elaborated properly what I meant when i said Black Lightning is more envelope pushing and controversial than the other shows and how that's apart of it's charm. I meant like in terms of making the characters and what they deal with. When people say more controversial its easy to assume i am talking about violence and sexual content. The show has had both of those things in controversial fashion that would make even adults feel uncomfortable but the main thing that makes it mature is the approach to the characters and the world they live in and how they acknowledge controversial social issues that are implicit in their community. That's one of the things that stands out about it. I should have made that clear in my last comment before posting it. My bad.
From an out of universe perspective I can kind of understand what the writers would be going for if Oliver is made the focus character, what with his show being the one that started the shared universe and with said show ending. Give character focus to the one that started it all and won't be around anymore after the event, a la Tony in Endgame. But unlike Tony, Oliver isn't as important to the universe as a whole so that level of focus would be undeserved from an in universe standpoint. By all means let the character have a last hurrah that lets him have a meaningful and important part in saving more lives that he ever has before. Just do so in a way that spreads the focus and plot importance out as evenly as they can with the character count and time constraints.

Favorite show ever I grew up watching this show from when the pilot premiered when I was really really young. I tend to rewatch it every 3 years. I think the best part of it was definitely the dynamic between Lex and Lionel. John Glover and Michael Rosenbaum were so good in their roles. I also liked the series a lot more in the beginning when Clark and Lex were good friends and Clark would stand up for Lex. However the whole series is excellent for the most part I think the last 2 seasons were a bit subpar because the original creators left but it was still a satisfying ending for me. I just wish they would let Rosenbaum play Luthor on the big screen tho the fans would go crazy
I hated Lex when he became a villain in Smallville. I felt betrayed by him because I grew to like the character a lot. I never liked him before Smallville. same for Deathstroke in Arrow. At least Deathstroke got to redeem himself and rejoin #TeamOliver, unlike Lex.
I watched Smallville for the first time in 2015 & oh my god its better than all of the CW & Marvel shows .Its really another level of show ,no wonder its director later directed spiderman movies & Fox X men Quicksilver copied fast running music scene from Smallville & don't forget how music incorporated every moment in Smallville .There is nothing like that ,still its unmatched in complexity of script & really talented actors in comic shows
I can remember other times too: 1-Super hearing being a side effect of Clark's blindness, which gave a scientific aspect; 2-Veritas, and the Lionel's protagonism with it; 3-Chloe Sullivan, she was not only a good character but also a good reason to shape Clark into a journalist; 4-The boy who could read mind and his relationship with Clark; 5- all they way they build up Clark's character, at least at the halfway.
Smallville also changed the names of Lex Luthor's parents which were originally Jules & Arlene in the comics to Lionel & Lillian which also became cannon in the comics after Smallville changed their names
Nicely done, Smallville is and always will be one of my favorite shows. Lionel Luthor's character was played perfectly. John Glover was amazing. I am excited that Tom and Erica will have at least a small (no pun intended) part on the upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earth story line in today's CW "hero" shows.
I watched again Smallville. I noticed now there were a lot of known actors ! Like Robin, How I met Your Mother. Stephan from vampire diaries, He was the brother of Lex ! And even Damon was here. Amy Adams, Lois from Man of Steel. Jean Winchester from Supernatural. The hero from teen wolf. Carly From iCarly. Princess Leia, star wars. And more.. Seeing all this character in one tv show made me enjoy Smallvillle even more.
Don't forget Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner), Jane Seymour (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman), Tony Todd (Candyman), Tom Wopat (The Dukes of Hazzard), Marguerite Moreau (Stephen King's Firestarter), James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Adrienne Palicki (The Orville). 😎👍
Smallville added the ancient aliens theory to make Clark search for relics that housed the pieces of the crystal that would form the fortress of solitude
Saw the whole series, liked most of it. Still want to know about what happened with all those villians at the end of the show and who was The Toyman talking to on the phone.
I agree with you I would love to see Lionel in the crisis you'll be amazing to have John Glover back. But we have to be realistic he would fit better as a bad guy than a good guy and I'm sure they have enough bad guys with what they have planned. It's enough that Welling and Durant's are there the show everyone else what a real super couple look like. God in Heaven I hope it's Epic..

@@kevin10001 Black Lightning is confirmed as being in it. Even though his show isn't. Huntress from the 2001 (or so) show 'Birds of Prey' is also in it.
Smallville should've ended when Clark moved to Metropolis. Then, we could have Metropolis as a second show or second era with Clark taking on the identity of Superman and taking on the villains that Superman is known to fight. Pre-Superman Clark should not be dealing with Mxyzptlk, Doomsday, or Darkseid.
Have you never seen how Red Kryptonite works in Adventures of Superboy (the show)? Smallville isn't the first place that gave Red K a definite effect. I think it made him evil in Superboy.
A great show, for sure. One of the concepts the series introduced which blew my mind and got me thinking was the bullets made of Kriptonyte that could (and did) injure Super-Man. :)
Enjoyed the commentary, and I agreed with most of it. No inclusion of Supergirl, which I think was a major subplot, and showcased some fine acting from Laura Vandervoort. I loved the show, was able to overlook most of the fails you mentioned, and totally agree that we needed a complete visual image of Welling as Superman. Michael Rosenbaum and John Glover were the best part of the show, the Luthor relationship was terrific. Most disappointing was Clark and Lana; I did not really see much chemistry there. The relationship with Lois was much more interesting.
Smallville was a real triumph when it comes to Lex Luthor. His backstory was great and you can really see why he turned out the way he did. I think Lex becoming the Lex Luthor was arguably even better than Clark becoming Superman.
Amen. The movie should be lex centered. And he should have a killmonger style triumphant ending. Of course revived later by the league of shadows to get a team up without Batman and Superman but with . Lois and Alfred.
My biggest issue with Smallville is Jor El in the early seasons and the Kryptonian stuff. Jor El's AI can predict the future, time travel, brain wash and control people etc and all he's supposed to be able to do is teach Clark about Krypton. The whole cave plot too never really got explained. But I love the show mostly for the characters and their relationships.
If you want to see a continuation of Smallville as well as a nice capper and close to the series as a whole, read the Season 11 digital comics. There you see Clark in the suit, more Lex Luthor and Justice League members. So if you want more after the Season 10 finale, look there.
So Tom Welling didn't want to wear the suit because he didn't want to be identified being "Superman", which could possibly hinder him getting other roles. Well what a great decision for his career because he went on to appear in "Cheaper by the Dozen" and ummm... oh oh, "Cheaper by the Dozen 2"...both being iconic pieces of cinema. And the irony of it all is that Tom will be in the CW crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths, as Superman, in a Superman suit🤔🤔🤔...yeah...

Love the video. I only desagree with the last one. Though I'd love to see a Superman completely grown, I like the mistery and the idea that the story was about a growing Superman, not a grown.
Smallville had the Kowatchi Native American caves as part of the Superman mythos added where there were cave paintings that heralded the coming of the last son of Krypton
Not a bad list. Have to say Rosenbaum was exceptional, and the scenes between he and Glover crackled. Only one real flaw in this list; the 'Superboy' comic series gave us a youthful Jonathan and Martha during the '70's. I forget the story's explanation as to the de-aging process, but it was a move by DC to make the characters contemporary and become more like parents than grandparents.
I was going to say it's interesting that you listed Joey on here, as the show had a short run. I thought it only had one season, but I just checked, and it actually had two, so I now understand better why you remember it being paired with the other three that much.
The one thing I loved what Smallville did was it respected and emphasized Superman as the 'Earth's Greatest Hero', as he should be. Two great examples are the scenes with the Legion from the future, and Dr. Fate's scene with Clark. Not once in the series was the lore, the myth, and the status of Superman ever questioned or challenged. Superman is not a 2nd rate hero, he doesn't take a backseat to Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern or anyone. He's thee HERO. DC has forgotten this over the last couple years. "And when you show yourself to the world, it will be a different age than ours, Clark. A silver age of heroism that will start when they look up into the sky at you with hope for tomorrow. You will have everyone to embrace it." "You will give the people an idea to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the Sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders." Two amazing quotes that describe Superman to a T.
I disagree with The Blur. The time Clark being The Blur was great imo. Though I agree with Jimmy Olsen thing, it was a cheap move. But I mostly disagree with we didn't see Superman thing. Clark became Superman throughout years and we witnessed it part by part. In the end, he was Superman.
Interesting about Lex's parents in the comics because killing his parents (alcoholic mother and common thief father) for the insurance money is what Lionel did in the show.
I noticed that, too. Gough and Millar wanted to create their own origin story for Lex to fit the Smallville storyline, and giving the one in the comics to Lionel, was a smart move. The fact that we get to see Lachlan Luthor in "Relic" is even better, especially knowing that Lionel conspired with Morgan Edge to have his parents killed. 😎😁
If opera music plays a Luthor will be hurt and if one is anywhere near that glass table, they will fall on it. 😂
This comment is pure gold 😂🤣

Reminds me of the adventures of Lois and Clark when Terri Hatcher would get thrown off a building every other episode. LOL
@@jayv231_ And the Lois of Smallville seemed to get knocked unconscious A LOT.
I thought Chloe was a pretty decent addition. Shame about Alison Mack.
Truuu
I’ll always love Chloe. I’ll always be disgusted by Allison Mack.
You missed the series proper use of Christopher Reeve.
That was... odd. I had mixed feelings about all of that, TBH. It never stopped feeling a little awkward to me. Then again, I suppose we have _Smallville_ to thank, at least in part, for John Wesley Shipp ending up on _The Flash_ as as Barry's dad...
Good point, that was one of the most memorable story arcs on Smallville.
@@ferd617 see that was good, and both Grant Gustin and John Wesley Shipp can act well, even if the show ain’t so good
As a Smallville OG fan, I'm surprised that no one brought up Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor.

Yes I liked that idea as well.
In season 2 finale of Krypton, Brainiac bring Jor El to Earth. Pretty interesting way to do it tho, sucked the show got cancel
I thought it was interesting how they made Jor El kinda sadistic like he branded Clark with a symbol on his chest in S3 then made a deal with Johnathan to get Clark back only to kill Johnathan later on
The development of the Luthor’s was amazing. I really missed Rosenbaum and Glover when they vanished for a few seasons later on.
tbh, i personally felt john kents choice to step up in the community and run for a seat in senate was inkeeping with his character, however I agree martha's massive divergence as an espionage figure was off base and ridiculous.

I'd throw in Tess Mercer as a positive from this show. Smallville had a theme song that wasn't just a version of the Superman musical theme
Smallville wasn't the one that invented red kryptonite's modern take, that was Lois and Clark, the other TV version of Superman.
I was about to comment the same thing! I loved Smallville but I absolutely adored Lois and Clark. Still have the biggest crush on Dean Cain. ❤
@@colierasmus Teri Hatcher will always be the my favourite Lois and I've seen all the adaptations lol
How do you not mention the failure of the portrayal of Darkseid?
They dropped the ball on doomsday too
I think they wrote Darkseid correctly. Darkseid's true size to scale is equivalent to a star. He has to either necromance the living/dead or adjust his size to exist on Earth.
@@rayb7917 Doomsday is a one-dimensional monster & Clark was not Supes yet. The season had to set up for 'Death of Superman' story by burying Doomsday under the Earth. Doomsday had not survived a power plant explosion at that point. Clark withstood many explosions during the show's run, so he was invulnerable to the power plant blast. The Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde trope was used to stretch Doomsday for an entire season because he has no depth other than causing Superman's death.

When it first came out, they said he would never wear the cape.
Legal and contracts. That's why
I think having the entire Justice League before he was Superman was a clear sign the show had outlasted it's original plan. I think they should have made him Superman right after college and called it a series but it was too successful for it's own good.

He didn't try too hard or over play it, and Tom was finding out about Superman as Clark was finding out about himself.
Tom not knowing much about Superman was a good thing. It made his portrayal of Clark Kent that much more impactful and realistic.

I watched Smallville for the first time in 2015 & oh my god its better than all of the CW & Marvel shows .Its really another level of show ,no wonder its director later directed spiderman movies & Fox X men Quicksilver copied fast running music scene from Smallville & don't forget how music incorporated every moment in Smallville .There is nothing like that ,still its unmatched in complexity of script & really talented actors in comic shows
Video actually starts at 1:10
@@Bruh_Moment7 No problem. Always fun to start lists off after the long winded, over explained minute monologue lol
The title of the video tells you exactly what its about, yet they always have to spend a whole minute explaining what its about lol
@@kunai30 for sure. I'd be fine with like "hey, I'm so n so from WhatCulture and here's..." (whatever list)
Meteor strike Ship landing and Krypton necklace is a phenomenal long lasting writing add in. Beautifully done
I can remember other times too:
1-Super hearing being a side effect of Clark's blindness, which gave a scientific aspect;
2-Veritas, and the Lionel's protagonism with it;
3-Chloe Sullivan, she was not only a good character but also a good reason to shape Clark into a journalist;
4-The boy who could read mind and his relationship with Clark;
5- all they way they build up Clark's character, at least at the halfway.
Love the series to this day. I really hope Tom is in the Crisis episodes more than once and not a one shot scene.
Here's to hoping we'll see Welling in a super suit this time around.
I always used to think supernatural was a spin off of smallville as a kid cuz jean Winchester was in it
They got royalty and princes.
My favourite version of lex Luther will always be the smallville version
I finally get to watch the whole thing streaming and I do not regret watching all these spoilers.
Saw the whole series, liked most of it. Still want to know about what happened with all those villians at the end of the show and who was The Toyman talking to on the phone.
I’m sorry but everytime i see the meteor hit lanas parents I laugh.
I am the batman you MOOOOONSTER!!! .... and yeah, me too actually :D
Same. They're all like "oh what's that? A meteor? It's getting pretty close huh...almost too clo--BOOM"
The way they just stood there smiling like idiots as they got hit.... heh.
I hope they bring Lionel in to the Crisis on Infinite Earth crossover. He could be a good version and help out with saving the day.
@@geraldburke5147 Justin Hartley's Green Arrow is also apparently back for the crossover. also, I'd like to have the John Glover Lionel back just so he can give Melissa Benoist's Kara and Katie McGrath's Lena advice. Advice for both of them is, forgive each other and trust one another again. Advice for Lena alone is is, don't follow your darkness. You may think yourself not a villain, but in reality you are. if anyone could get Lena and Kara to be friends again, it's Lionel. especially, since tom's Clark will undoubtedly never meet them.
Soron66 that’s a lie that was proven a lie and no John Glover will not be back
I BECAME A SUPERMAN FAN BECAUSE OF SMALLVILLE! I just watched the series for the first time this Nov. 2019 because of the hype and I became an instant fan! I started researching on Superman after that.
Smallville Superman is in the upcoming Arrowverse crossover. "Crisis on infinite Earth's" will see all the current DC shows and most of the previous ones (including Batman 1966 and Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne from "Batman Beyond") unite to survive...
Alun Rundle as far as I know black lightning will not be in it cause this this is an arrowverse crossover and he isn't part of the arrowverse and hopefully never will be
@@kevin10001 Black Lightning is confirmed as being in it. Even though his show isn't. Huntress from the 2001 (or so) show 'Birds of Prey' is also in it.
@@alunrundle162 I didn't know about the Huntress. That's pretty cool
i actually fine with the ending, somehow it fits with the rest of the series
I really hope the Tom Welling cameo in Crisis is more than just a simple cameo.
Use to love this show especially when Lois came in and always wished they went with Tom in the movies..
Did the flash cw series use “the blur” idea from smallville. They both have the same kind of the love story.
Sing it with me people " somebody save me ---- "
Let your warm hands break right through me
My biggest issue with Smallville is Jor El in the early seasons and the Kryptonian stuff. Jor El's AI can predict the future, time travel, brain wash and control people etc and all he's supposed to be able to do is teach Clark about Krypton. The whole cave plot too never really got explained. But I love the show mostly for the characters and their relationships.
The red kryptonite was hilarious! Whenever he came in contact with it, was fun to watch! 🔺🔻😂
I absolutely love Smallville!! ❤️❤️❤️ it’s successes far will outweigh its shortcomings!!
I loved this show as a kid. Watching this countdown just makes me hate the finale even more.
I loved the finale because it Followed the original Idea of what Smallville was.
season 8+ are terrible. 5, 6 and 7 have problems but its still worth watching
@@TheHeroBleeder the show stopped being about Smallvilles original idea for actor 4 seasons. And it was executed horribly.
Hopefully, CW's crisis special can fix the plot-holes when it premieres in December.
don't say holes
well i prefer Smallville's Olsen than Supergirl's Olsen ,who is taller and have buffed up body than Superman
If you want to see a continuation of Smallville as well as a nice capper and close to the series as a whole, read the Season 11 digital comics. There you see Clark in the suit, more Lex Luthor and Justice League members. So if you want more after the Season 10 finale, look there.
Superman needed to be revealed at the end of the series.
yeah totally 10 years build up to nothing...at least in Gotham we got to see the lad suit up at the end
@@Rikarious Tom didn't want to wear the suit at the time. also, by then he more than likely didn't fit into what they crafted for him in the show.
I would have put Darkseid in the failed department
I think they wrote Darkseid correctly. Darkseid's true size to scale is equivalent to a star. He has to either necromance the living/dead or adjust his size to exist on Earth.
I didn't mind Doomsday in smallville either but I'd say they could've done him better so for me he's kinda in the failed department
@@itzjeggie898 Doomsday is a one-dimensional monster & Clark was not Supes yet.
@@itzjeggie898 Doomsday in the Krypton series was so much better
@@MrXon yeah I've heard that version of Doomsday is good but I still haven't watched that far into Krypton
Love the video. I only desagree with the last one. Though I'd love to see a Superman completely grown, I like the mistery and the idea that the story was about a growing Superman, not a grown.
The show was never oh he's Superman it's this man can become Superman.
Smallville had the Kowatchi Native American caves as part of the Superman mythos added where there were cave paintings that heralded the coming of the last son of Krypton
They totally should have kept the Kowatchi lady alive and have her show up now and then to help Clark and the gang.
One of the reasons why they couldn't show "Superman", was mainly for Copyright reasons as they have stated at panels.
Miss the fridays with Smalliville, ER, Joey and CSI
You will have everyone to embrace it."
"You will give the people an idea to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the Sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders."
Two amazing quotes that describe Superman to a T.
Michael and Tom always had a good thing to say about John Glover on their podcast, Talk Ville.
