    To me, the composite looks like a 99% accurate representation of what my games used to look like back in 2003-2006 on a PAL 14inch TV (with an inbuilt dvd player) minus the hard to notice scanlines. The textures are little out of focus but the edges of character models are quite smooth. Knowing I can get an "original" result with this, I'm keen to get a retrotink now.

      That is one of the things I like the most about it. You can go for the accurate sharp pixel look or can smooth it out etc. There are so many post processing options or you can just leave it at stock if you don't care to mess with it too much.

    A comparison with a 2D sprite game, line Marvel vs Capcom would have been interesting.

    Dang you weren’t kidding. That really IS a night and day difference! I’ve been on the fence about getting a Retrotink 5X Pro. I don’t always play on original hardware but when I do, I want it to be the best it can be lol.

      It honestly has been game changing not just for convenience for streaming but just enjoying my retro games on my television. Also Mike Chi who makes it is constantly adding new features and options through firmware updates. As someone in Canada who never had access to them I also can't overstate just how big of a difference a good SCART cable made for Dreamcast specifically.

      @@Warbeard I just got a 5x, and am curious to learn more about how you use it to output for streaming!

      @@bryanmanio_ So I have it output to an Elgato HD60S+ and then I run it through OBS Studio. So far I have been using HD Retrovision cords for the consoles I stream as I really like their cables. The only Exception is for the Dreamcast which I ordered a specific scart cable for which I linked in this videos description.
      I tend to keep the resolution around 1080P for streaming purposes and try not to go too heavy on scanlines etc just because they can look weird at 1080P when being streamed if you go too heavy on them.
      An important thing I noticed with the Elgato is in OBS you need to add a filter to it, specifically I added a 200 ms video delay (Async) otherwise the audio tends to go out of sync sometimes.
      Beyond that the Elgato is just added as a video capture device and I add the Elgato audio as an audio capture device. From there it is just a matter of building a scene as you normally would in OBS to get a look you like. I tend to focus the gameplay to the left since it is SD and won't take up the full screen and focus chat etc on the right.

    Scart 100% is better, I've had my retrotink 5x since August and I'm still fine tuning it, it's an amazing piece of kit

      Big time! I knew it would look better but I was actually blown away once I set everything up and had it running.

      @@Warbeard I'm absolutely shocked it wasn't the standard in the US and Canada, its night and day, I don't know how they played with component and composite cables

      It’s funny, I don’t remember everything looking bad back then. Maybe it’s just because there wasn’t anything better that I never noticed. All I know is when I hooked the Genesis up as an adult with composite it looked muddy and awful.

    Isn't a Dreamcast VGA cable the best way to go? It's better than Scart.

    • @Warbeard
      @Warbeard  10 месяцев назад

      The 5X does not have a connection for a VGA signal. You could go with a device like this www.retrorgb.com/hd15-2-scart-adapter.html to move the VGA signal through the Scart port but I did not feel the need to do so.

    Does the retrotink 5x need a power supply/brick?

    • @Warbeard
      @Warbeard  Год назад +2

      It uses a micro usb plug in. I just plug it into a usb port on my pc and have had no issues.
      The owners manual lists you want a power supply that outputs at least 1A of power and is rated to draw 800mA.
      Many tvs also have a usb port on the back that supplies it’s needs as well.
