My good buddy of 50 years (from kindergarden) and I were set to do motorcycling adventures like you guys a couple years back. Sadly he passed from an unexpected heart attack before we could get started. Thank you for sharing your adventures.
Man it's a year late but go do it he will be with u

Which sadly teaches the rest of us... Do it now!
I know how you must feel, my father died of a unexpected heart attack too at age 62, and the thought of all his plans for the future that are now gone, are painful. Just watching this video made me sad, since he loved driving to the Bay area from here in San Diego to buy old motorcycles.
That view from the ridge where you camped is truly incredible.
Michael Oliver, totally agree, great camp spot. Ari and Zack, can you share the location of that camp site!?
@@JoeTaddeo im not positive but after a whole bunch of digging and cross referencing google maps and the video above i believe the location is Campsite 3 on Los Burro Spur Rd california 93920...... it is directly above mud creek on the pch

You two guys are delightful. That was a wonderful trip. In felt like I was right there with both of you. I am 68 years old and recently acquired my Kawasaki x300 Versys. I try to ride it everyday. I have owned and ridden many motorcycles in my time but this little 300 Versys is by far the best motorcycle I have ever owned. I prefer riding it even over my KTM Duke 690 Supermoto. The 690 handles slightly better and it has 70 HP at my disposal but my little Versys is so smooth and pleasant to ride. The KTM has a single cylinder 'Thumper' engine that is not very tractable in low range speeds. In fact, it is downright jerky and ratchety. I only wish the seat on my Versys was more comfortable. Anyway, I subscribed to your channel and I am very happy to support two wholesome fellows having a great time on motorcycles. I am pleased that you guys maintain a high ethical standard. Not a single nasty word in this entire presentation. Thanks so much for that!
Small CC bikes are largely underrated. I blame Gixxers
Vasya Pupkin gixxers and squids.
+fukthegoog
Then you absolutely must get Versys 650 and blow their minds. xD jk
Vasya Pupkin love my fully modded Nina 500R, small bikes are really thrilling.
Everybody blames gixxers, but really its everyone. The last 20 years has seen a huge push to larger bike engines across all types.
Audfile how is it modded? Engine? I have a 500r as well and I’m looking for a cheap place to get parts, I really want another front fairing since the one on mine is cracked pretty bad
I bought a Versys x300 after 33 years of not riding a motorcycle. Perfect non-intimidating bike to return to. Real fun as this video shows.
So tell me Malcolm...........did that bike COME with the panniers on em? Or did you have to BUY THOSE as an option?
menom7 optional and quite expensive for what you get. I installed a Givi top box - much better value than the branded stuff.
Okay,Thanks so much for answering my question!!! That's very helpful!!! :)
Malcolm Estment im in the way
Malcolm how do you find the seat.
All comments I've heard is that it is unbelievably Hard & I haven't found anyone that's making a Replacement.
I first watched this 5 months ago and just watched it all the way through again. One of my favourite videos of all time. You guys truly rock!
I just bought my Versys 300 and your video has totally inspired me!! Thank you for everything!

FortNine is #1 and this #2, but by a small margin
unfortunately not anymore. It's nothing personal, but I just don' really like the new hosts that well...
Awesome video guys. That time lapse of the fog moving at 10:25 in the morning was amazing. As a California coastal dweller who is very familiar with the coast highway, it was still breathtaking to see things from your perspective at that campsite. I have flown hang gliders many times from similar sites and landed on the bluffs along Big Sur, so seeing that spot brought back some great memories. Thanks for all the great videos you put out.
Thank you guys, you are really able to transmit all the emotions and feelings a motorbike can arouse. No matter the power, the price, the look, spending some time on two wheels is always amazing. Greetings from Italy!
You guys have the coolest job
You know they cant wait to wake up and head to work in the morning
Heck, Zack even records his morning commutes sometimes! They're living the dream!
James Stokoe and they're great at it ✌️
James Stokoe the coolest life overall
James Stokoe that is true
Crf 250 Rally is a very nimble bike in the city. It happily cruises on the highways at 100 km/h@6500 rpm. It even does 120 km/h but then it does not have enough grunt left for overtaking or emergency maneuvers (it can do 130-140 max with a very heavy guy like me on it) It is off road capable, forest roads, gravel roads, trails are ok but it is not made for pure off road fun. That would require a ligjhter bike with better suspensions and I would not want to scratch my beautiful bikes’ fairings to be honest. I wish it were 300-450 cc and had more power but then there is no perfect bike. It is very low cost to own and operate. Excels at back country road riding @ 75-85 km/h while enjoying the scene and the nature around.
mmmmm mn p.m. po llpop poo lll
You guys do a great job of not being too snarky and not using dumb tricks to "pretend" tease each other. This is a great channel. Seems like a little thing, but makes it enjoyable to watch. Thank you.
Great review guys.. The Rally isn't my kind of thing but that little Versys looks a blast. Sometimes you don't need the big bore bikes to have genuine fun
You guys are the best at what you do

Hi Ari and Zack,
Love your videos 👍. Thank you for the effort from yourselves and your team. The videos have taught me heaps 🎥. I hope that you can continue to post many more videos, well into the future.
Thanks again to all at Motorcyclist Magazine.
Great clip guys! Especially the hill climb at 7.20! I've always loved the CRF but that Versys is more than capable!! Impressive stuff.
Another brilliant video guys. Thanx!! And proof that we don't have to spend a fortune on bikes to have fun.
I’ve watched the video again and again. It never stops being entertaining, but also inspiring. Affordable bikes being able to take you cool places with your friends and an emphasis on enjoyment rather than paper performance always gets me stoked to ride.
Thanks, and keep it up.
Right on, that's exactly why we love making these!
thanks guys! ive always wanted to do this entire section! i got to ride the old coast road a couple years ago and loved it! cant wait to check out that epic campsite!
Best bike review I have watched , great job guys . As an owner of an X 300 , I must say I am so happy with mine . Went from a 650 Vee Strom to the 300 . The approximately 90 pound reduction in weight along with some steering geometry difference is amazing in how it handles on and off pavement . First thing I did was build a skid plate and add a bigger foot on side stand . Had it to ADV June get together at Enterprise Oregon and myself and others were impressed how well it did off pavement , including a steep dry creek bed above the Snake River . I had been checking out everybodyies 200 to 400cc models for the last two years . Do not enjoy singles any more . Also , why do most come with a tiny peanut tank ?
Nice. At what speed does the noise level from high rpms get distracting/irritating?
You guys need to do "On Two Wheels" full time and travel the world... EPIC!
Turd Ferguson agree, europe, south east asia, china, nepal, pakistan. Lot more. Can't imagine the view. EPIC
Sounds like "MotoGeo" :) That'd be cool, though.
MotoGeo is also AWESOME! Wouldn't hurt to have another world show doing different things!

Always informative, entertaining and worth my time. Thanks so much guys you bring great life to motorcycle reviews and cover the details of the bikes as well.
Well done, guys. Love the small bike emphasis. It's about fun and riding, not always "what" you're riding.
Great Video guys!
Would love to own the Versys-X 300 in my home country Nepal. Perfect for the harsh roads over here. Only problem is most new motorcycle models are imported 1-2 years later and it costs twice as much after tax.
Ok fellas you've inspired us all to get 2nd 3rd and 4th bikes lol.

Epic trip and thanks for showing the landslide! 😲
Loved it! Haven’t had a bike in a minute but looking forward to this type of riding with my brother some day. Thank you for waking up the dream.

Great route, looks so much more fun than just taking the paved road. I really like the Versys and you guys showed off its capabilities, would love to get a comparison between it and the Vstrom 250.
If we could buy a Vstrom 250 in the states, they probably would. Why Suzuki doesn't sell it here is behind me.

Gear 1 up on the front sprocket. It helps greatly. I rub 75 to 80 on the highway and I have no complaints.
Comfort is all subjective.

I always look forward to new uploads from motorcyclist. Content is entertaining, informative and consistent. Well done lads!
I just wish that people used dual purpose tyres on the Versys instead of the stock tyres When they test the bike off road, because.... If you have the chance of swapping the tyres, you should do it, to do a more realistic test.
The same goes for street tyres on the CRF for on road testing.
Really these manufacturers...more so Kawasaki here, not the Honda as much...need to just use better 50/50 type tires, like the Heidenau K60 Scout. The Honda seems appropriate for the more off-road tires that are on it.
You guys rock. You're my heroes! This was such an awesome idea.

I just got a Versys-X 300 2-1/2 weeks ago when the dealer called and said they were closing out the 17's to make room for the 18's. I couldn't pass it up at the price. I love this little bike!!!! I have a Tiger 800XCA too and while it's awesome on the road and VERY light dirt, the little Versys is the perfect all-around bike. I'm not that tall so the smaller and lighter Versys is exactly what I need. Mine already has a skid plate, crash bars, new windscreen and a 2" handlebar riser. If you have any doubts about getting one, GET ONE! :) Oh and this channel rocks!
I would LOVE to get those GPS tracks! 👍🏼
Great job guys. Way to tell a great story and review bikes at the same time. Props to your camera person too!

You call this bike "small adventure bike".
It's freaking huge for us south east asian. T_T
Joseph Austin not according to the average European and American. But this goes to show that many cc under your a** are not needed to go for a more distant ride... I own myself a KTM Duke 390 and it's A TON of fun, screw the ones who belittle us...
The Hyosung rt125 looks pretty cool
Joseph Austin I'm from SEA too but the kawasaki is still small. The engine is still pretty small and the overall width of the bike is pretty small. (not saying that's bad though)
Have you seen an R1200gs?
That thing is freakin huge.
marty mitch KTM Duke 390 is the big bike India.
Small in engine.. yes... but not the bike.. if you ride the CRF 450 Rally have the same size... and in Indonesia the Versys 300 become smaller into 250cc 2 silinder.
Howdy guys. This was one hell of a video. Also, eagerly waiting to see the BMW G310R go head to head against the Ktm duke 390!

It isnt available in america... but we know what it is.
Great video. Love the drone shots. Loved that Mount Olympus campsite. Should've flown the drone over those clouds!
I go back and watch these guys all the time! I love their videos
great video guys..considering the versys for my next bike
Same here!
lool you have no taste ! the honda look so far better ! but this is just my opinion
lool some people take other things into consideration when buying a bike besides looks. They both have an application they will excel in. CRF if you're gonna be more offroad, Versys if you're doing a 50/50 split or more highway.
From what I can tell, the Versys seems to be a great lightweight commuter that can do offroading, whereas the CRF seems to be a great lightweight dual sport that can do commuting.
I don't have much of any dual sporting near me, so I'm looking to grab a Versys 650. Just depends on your uses!
Though I am really excited for the potential of maybe getting a CRF/XR 600/650 Rally, because that would just be beautiful.
Kawis are great bikes. Got a Versys 650 for adventur touring =)
Would be nice if you guys could put a link or show a map of the route you took. Looks gorgeous!

Brokeback Mountain on 2 wheels....
Must have been in the area about the same time you were. Was riding a KLR650, friend was riding a Harley. We were riding from L.A. Calf to Reno then to we spent the night in Hollister. We really wanted to ride the coast line but we heard about the 2 closures on Hwy 1 but we were not sure where they really was. Leaving Hollister in the morning we made our way to Hwy 101. We turned off Hwy 101 taking Jolon Rd, then to Mission Rd. getting fuel and lunch at Fort Hunter Liggett Army Base. Then we made our way to Nacimiento Fergusson Rd. It was a very small tight curvy road all the way to Hwy 1. OOPS we ended up between the two closures on Hwy 1. The only way out was going back the same way we got there to Jolon. and Hwy 101 for us. We ended up have a great adventure and ride. Would love to go back and take Nacimiento Fergusson Rd again.
What a great video and your production is so cool, and you are so obviously real riders. Loved it.

How is the seat? I understand it's hard as a brick but that's the only negative I've heard.
As the peak of skill the camera man somehow kept pace on an electraglide
There's a camera man? I thought they were just on You tube.
If only Honda made CRF500L ...
Wouldn't a CB500X with Rally Raid Level 3 be about the closest thing? A Mini Africa Twin?
I once detoured similarly in that same area but on the other side of the hills trying to follow short cuts from 101 to 1. I didn't think about it when i saw the military convoy leaving Fort Hunter Liggett heading south on 101 as i was heading north into the fort to follow the map. The public was still allowed to drive the fort roads and the Range Control officer told me i would have the roads to myself. I drove along pristine narrow paved paths across the fort to discover that my egress route was blocked by a padlocked military gate. So I turned around and cruised back through the winding hills among the oak trees as if i had the whole place as my own private track which i, in fact, did.. Best ride ever.
Man, that was too bad! I usually ride Nacimiento-Fergusson Road 3-4 times a year and I have NEVER seen the west gate closed. Went through it once with an escort back in the 80s. Hope you get to ride the whole thing someday...it's worth it! If you want to camp, check out Ponderosa Campground a few miles west of the gate. Make sure you also check out the other road out of Hunter-Ligget, Del Venturi. It turns to dirt about 15 miles in but the scenery back there is gorgeous.
Dont wander too far off the main roads, as you might get stranded in a sand pit for four hours...
Love and hate you guys at the same time, I'm so jealous because that trip looks incredible. Wonderful job as usual!
The bird was louder than the bike
americans have so much hate for the "small" bikes. Those 250s are way more fun to ride than any 600 if you are talking about genuin off roading. And a liter bike well, thats just a pain in the ass, way to heavy, and you know it. You can abuse these 250 as much as you want, the insurance is cheap, you are less likely to have a really really bad accident and you can climb pretty much anything because they are shorter and lighter. (at least the crf, the versys is a different animal, just lazy move from kawasaki )
from what I can tell american auto culture in general is just about big blocks and straight line power. I doubt they care about litre bike's draw backs because they won't be doing much more than hooning on them. I'm sure once you get to actual off road riders and such you'll find even in america light weight is appreciated, its just the general public that like to live vicariously through their CC count surely?
Back in 2012 my Dad & I did a ride from SF down to San Simeon through Big Sur, that year there was a slide just south of Carmel and we had to detour through Carmel Valley as well, except we hopped over to the PCH north of San Simeon via "The Nac" and if you're on a street bike that's an incredible road. It's almost a better loop than sticking on the PCH even when it's open.
I've watched this several times. You guys nailed this. Wish you the best.
