I used to ride down the Big Sur coast on the 1 a couple times a year on a road bike. The route from Monterey to San Simeon remains one of my all-time favorites. Awesome, rolling terrain, incredible views, and if you're lucky, beautiful marine wildlife sightings - I had the honor of seeing humpback whales, condors, and sea lions on multiple occasions. Thanks for the video, Brian. This one took me back!
This is exactly what I do, but with running. A few months ago on a camping trip I had all these routes planned out. Little did I know some of them went through private property, and some of the summits were grown over. I still went through!
I got a gravel bike last summer after moving out to the burbs. It's easy to say that it has really changed the way I think about things in exactly the way Mr. SAFA describes: the BEST way to feel like you're getting away from civilization even though you're just on a day trip. LEGENDS.
I gave up on gravel since I couldn't find any tires that would hold up. Maybe it's just me since I was ripping Mtb trails but I always ended up having to fix a tire out on the trail.

Did this route two years ago, so this brought back some great memories. Even remember that Petrol station in Cambria :) Saw my first whale when we descended back down to PCH. Tough, but perfect ride. Of all things we rode it the other way round.
Going the other way gives you a easier way up, although it would still be pretty intense haha. Not a bad direction, the big dirt descent at the end would have been fun too.
EPIC in every possible way. Truly the very best cycling content on the planet - hands down. The very reason why I plan on picking up a gravel bike and getting lost. I love this idea. There are truly amazing landscapes in California, and people who don't agree just haven't seen enough of the state yet. The amount of landscape variety is amazing and I love the idea of capturing these pristine untapped trails. Good stuff

What an amazing video! I was on Big Sur last on the summer 2020 before the Covid and this bring me a lot of memories from that trip. Cheers from Chile in South America, we have some amazing routes over here from the Andes to Patagonia, deserts, islands, lakes, so much fun to travel with our bicycles

This might have been one that's the most annoying to film but by far the most enjoyable to watch! From a visual and music selection perspective you got it all spot on!
That is some really great content. The multiple cameras bring the experience to life, and the drone shots give the larger context so well. I'm sure it's a PITA carrying all the gear, but if you're after beautiful cycling films, you need it, and the result speaks for itself. You've taken possibly the most beautiful area in the US (IMHO), one that I spent a lot of my younger days in, and filmed it in a way that lets me experience it in a whole new way. Makes me want to quit my job and head down there tonight!

They are great but it really depends on the type of riding you are going to do. I found that I'm way to much of a Mtb guy and my trails are to brutal for gravel or mainly for their lightly built tires.
Always fun to just not over plan and be curious when a intriguing road beckons. Here in Canada been doing that in my backyard (Northern Quebec). Big Sur is nice, went for a visit in 2019.
Sweet and nicely edited....good job to both of you for completing this (and especially for lugging all the extra cameras). I LOVE Nascimento - Fergusson Rd - (locals call it "Nasty" Rd). The route you guys took is a classic, and you had great karma with the National Forest Service having it currently CLOSED to traffic (otherwise you would have come across a couple of SUV campers, etc). There's hundreds more miles of gravel in Big Sur region - it's possible to ride almost entirely off road from Carmel Valley all the way to below Hearst Castle and even deep into SLO County (behind Cambria & Cayucos). The next "section" (south of Gorda) of the Old Coast Ridge Rd takes you deep into an area known as the Silver Peaks Wilderness. Gorgeous country, all of it, (and loaded with endless climbs to boot!). Looking forward to seeing further episodes like this one, although "classic" Safa style, (descent disciples type footage), is always welcome! It's also fantastic to see that mainstream Rodale Press, (Bicycling Magazine), wisely chose to showcase you too, (with their recent article about Safa's exploits).
Sounds like we should have consulted you for route guidance before we came! Such a beautiful area, we couldn't go too long with trying to film and it only being a day ride but would be great to explore more of the area.
Absolutely phenomenal. The ending was truly one of those "when everything just lines up perfectly" moments. Can't wait for more of this!

I used to ride down the Big Sur coast on the 1 a couple times a year on a road bike. The route from Monterey to San Simeon remains one of my all-time favorites. Awesome, rolling terrain, incredible views, and if you're lucky, beautiful marine wildlife sightings - I had the honor of seeing humpback whales, condors, and sea lions on multiple occasions. Thanks for the video, Brian. This one took me back!

This is exactly what I do, but with running. A few months ago on a camping trip I had all these routes planned out. Little did I know some of them went through private property, and some of the summits were grown over. I still went through!
Sometimes you gotta do a little hop, skip, and jump to keep the good times going.
I got a gravel bike last summer after moving out to the burbs. It's easy to say that it has really changed the way I think about things in exactly the way Mr. SAFA describes: the BEST way to feel like you're getting away from civilization even though you're just on a day trip. LEGENDS.

I gave up on gravel since I couldn't find any tires that would hold up. Maybe it's just me since I was ripping Mtb trails but I always ended up having to fix a tire out on the trail.

Did this route two years ago, so this brought back some great memories. Even remember that Petrol station in Cambria :) Saw my first whale when we descended back down to PCH. Tough, but perfect ride. Of all things we rode it the other way round.
Going the other way gives you a easier way up, although it would still be pretty intense haha. Not a bad direction, the big dirt descent at the end would have been fun too.
I love it when you show the social aspect to riding with other people, super enjoyable to watch. Im thrilled that there is more to come! 🚴🏻♂️❤️

That is some really great content. The multiple cameras bring the experience to life, and the drone shots give the larger context so well. I'm sure it's a PITA carrying all the gear, but if you're after beautiful cycling films, you need it, and the result speaks for itself. You've taken possibly the most beautiful area in the US (IMHO), one that I spent a lot of my younger days in, and filmed it in a way that lets me experience it in a whole new way. Makes me want to quit my job and head down there tonight!

They are great but it really depends on the type of riding you are going to do. I found that I'm way to much of a Mtb guy and my trails are to brutal for gravel or mainly for their lightly built tires.

Always fun to just not over plan and be curious when a intriguing road beckons. Here in Canada been doing that in my backyard (Northern Quebec). Big Sur is nice, went for a visit in 2019.

Sweet and nicely edited....good job to both of you for completing this (and especially for lugging all the extra cameras). I LOVE Nascimento - Fergusson Rd - (locals call it "Nasty" Rd). The route you guys took is a classic, and you had great karma with the National Forest Service having it currently CLOSED to traffic (otherwise you would have come across a couple of SUV campers, etc). There's hundreds more miles of gravel in Big Sur region - it's possible to ride almost entirely off road from Carmel Valley all the way to below Hearst Castle and even deep into SLO County (behind Cambria & Cayucos). The next "section" (south of Gorda) of the Old Coast Ridge Rd takes you deep into an area known as the Silver Peaks Wilderness. Gorgeous country, all of it, (and loaded with endless climbs to boot!). Looking forward to seeing further episodes like this one, although "classic" Safa style, (descent disciples type footage), is always welcome! It's also fantastic to see that mainstream Rodale Press, (Bicycling Magazine), wisely chose to showcase you too, (with their recent article about Safa's exploits).
Sounds like we should have consulted you for route guidance before we came! Such a beautiful area, we couldn't go too long with trying to film and it only being a day ride but would be great to explore more of the area.
