    when my 1998 civic heats up it slips gears. while sitting at a red light it wont catch on. rpms go up and the engine revs. and turning it off for a minute fixes the problem for about 15 mins. so is this the fluid? its an automatic, i figured you know more about this than me. so what do you think?

    • @WelkingVue
      @WelkingVue  8 лет назад

      +David Mccune what's the mileage on your vehicle? Check the fluid if fluid is too dark it's probably because maintenance wasn't kept up with. Also, make sure the level is correct on the dipstick. Your transmission might be near the end of it's useful life. Consider adding Prolong Super Lubricant Transmission Treatment to your fluid.

    Greetings from Brazil! Unfortunely there is no videos about this fluid change here, but I want to ask you about my situation: I'm owner of a 98 Civic but I think that the ATF has never been changed before. It have an almost clear brown color, but it's not burnt. The question is: Can I proceed with this change, putting new fluid and mixing with the old one that will remain? I read in some places that it was not recommended. Congrats for your nice vid!

    • @WelkingVue
      @WelkingVue  2 года назад +2

      I think there are some vehicle if you got old and dirty fluid for so long and you change the fluid, then the new fluid could actually damage the transmission. I don't know if this would apply to 1998 Honda Civic transmission. By the way, it's good to know you are from Brazil.

      @@caiquefrancis Opa Francis, tudo bem? Cara eu optei por fazer a troca. Considerando o estado do óleo do meu, tendi a crer que o antigo dono fez alguma troca em algum momento. Então comprei os litros de fluido originais na honda e fiz a troca parcial.
      Quando o mecanico tirou o bujão, por sorte havia pouquíssimas limalhas grudadas, sinal de que estava em bom estado. O óleo também não tinha muuuito cheiro de ferro, o que indica que não houve muito desgaste ou até mesmo que teve alguma troca em algum momento. Também não tinha nenhum problema na troca de marcha, nos tempos, ou perder a marcha no meio do caminho, falta de compressão. Fiz a troca uns meses depois de perguntar ao Welking e até então está em perfeito estado.
      Lembrando que fiz a parcial, não recomendo fazer o flush, por poder transportar borras pra dentro das canaletas e aí ferrar tudo. Se você achar melhor (e tiver $$$ para isso) faça a primeira parcial, ande uma semana, drena novamente e faz outra parcial, mais uma semana e ai drena e faz mais uma parcial, porque ai tu vai estar com quase 80% de óleo "novo". Se tiver alguma dúvida adicional é só me avisar ai! Ah, outra informação importante: troque a vedação do bujão. Se vende na concessionária, é 20 reais e te evita de ter algum vazamento por ali. Abraço

      @@caiquefrancis que isso, cara. Se eu puder ajudar em mais alguma coisa só avisa aqui. Boa sorte na tua manutenção ai, acho que vai dar tudo certo. O AT desse Civic é bem resistente e se feito as manutenções corretas vai longe. Leve num mecânico de confiança e não se atira nessas casas de câmbio que só querem vender o flush por 1500 reais. Faz o que é pedido no manual que é sucesso. Se tu mesmo for fazer o procedimento, procura o Service Manual do Civic, tem em PDF para download, é em inglês, mas é hiper explicativo. @WelkingVue  8 лет назад

      +Heriberto R Montalvo Yes Civic have transmission filter, but it's not necessary to change the filter when you do a transmission fluid change, but obviously if you do change the transmission filter it would help extend the life of the transmission.

    hello I have a question. I have honda civic 96 automatic trans 160k miles on it, I want to change and fully flush (100%) of my old atf on my car... Ive searched on the internet (honda forum) is that if you wanna fully flush your old atf, you must do the drain, refill then drive method. just repeat it 3 times after another to fully flush your old atf, is this true? or this method on your video would do. thanks need your help.

    • @WelkingVue
      @WelkingVue  8 лет назад +3

      +Maddy Muhat As far as I know Honda don't recommend flushing 96-00 civic. Probably because flushing might damage the transmission. If you have not already done so, check the condition of your transmission fluid by using the dipstick. Then when you change the transmission fluid, drive for a while, then check the condition again with the dipstick. How new or how clean your transmission fluid is? Compare it to brand new transmission fluid. Try using the same type of transmission fluid, so you can compare what's clean and what's not. To your question, I would say it's not true, you won't get a 100% flush because old and new fluid are mixed together, but you should not have to worry about that, if you're going to change it three times, that should be enough. I would drive for 2-3 days before each change though.

    • @maddymuhat8079
      @maddymuhat8079 8 лет назад

      +Welking Vue ahh okay thank you very much, so my 2nd drain and refill interval would be 2 to 3 days after the day of my 1st drain and refill right?, also why on your video its stated 1996-2000 if its not recommended to do flushing of atf on 1996? sorry for many question :))

    • @WelkingVue
      @WelkingVue  8 лет назад +1

      +Maddy Muhat You don't really have to wait 2 or 3 days before doing another drain and refill. Personally if I was going to do drain and refill, and then do it again, I would drive for 5 miles before doing another drain and refill. Don't forget to shift selector to all positions. You just want the old and new fluid to mix well before doing another fluid change. On my video I stated 1996-2000 transmission fluid CHANGE, it's changing the fluid just a drain and refill, not FLUSHING.

    • @maddymuhat8079
      @maddymuhat8079 8 лет назад

      +Welking Vue okay okay thanks for the reply you really help me a lot. so in short the term "flushing" is different from just drain and refill? and by doing the flusing I must do the 3X method?? is it correct?

    • @WelkingVue
      @WelkingVue  8 лет назад +1

      +Maddy Muhat Flushing is using a machine to flush all the fluid out. Drain and refill, all you do is drain it and refill it. When you drain not all the fluid will drain out. Just keep draining and refilling and check the fluid each time with the dipstick, once the fluid looks clean, then it's good. If you are concern about your transmission, add transmission treatment to it. From my experience PROLONG SUPER LUBRICANTS Transmission Treatment are the best it's NO EQUAL IN THE WORLD.
