I’m over 5/24 and just got approved for a Sapphire card. It wasn’t easy and was thinking for sure it was a denial. I took a shot at it bc Chase mailed me some 100,000 point offer. I went for it and it didn’t give me a decision. I got a “chase will get back to you” message. I then got a call from an 800 number that was a Chase fraud line. I called back the recon number and they asked me some identity questions and came back with an approval. 😮

Seb, please do a video showing us how you are able to book flights using points. I've accumulated a pile of Amex points, only to discover how difficult it is to use them. Using points on premium cabins for huge value sounds amazing, but there are literally zero seats available to book across ALL airlines. It literally took me an entire year to finally score a spot for The Room with ANA from JFK to HND. Same thing with SQ, KLM, and Air France. I am sitting on a huge pile of Amex points that are virtually useless because there are simply NO SEATS available for redemption. I am beginning to swing heavily into earning Chase points, because at least Hyatt points are easy to use while offering decent value. Seb HELP!

I used to have the same mindset of looking for plane tickets the same way I usually do… try something unorthodox… I know you have set dates but I want you to get familiar with patterns. Use google flight for your destination, learn the most direct route near you with business class…which airline alliance program is it? For example I am currently eyeing a flight to Rio de Janeiro. I live in Boston. I cannot search for flights like most people… I have to look at high likelihoods… most of these awards are last minute. I know it sux to gamble but only luck I’ve had is on emirates or Qatar for bookings a few months out.
      Anyway
I know the heaviest traffic (most planes most availability , better to focus on) is NYC to GRU. This is the high likely route I’ll grab a business class seat (and IAD but I didn’t want to make this more confusing). United and AA are my likely options. I’ve already booked economy flights; but I’m very sure if I wait until 2 weeks prior (since I’ve recognized patterns) that United will release business class award seats via air Canada/aeroplan for approximately 62000 miles one way… I am not certain but I’ve tested this availability on flights two weeks from now… I hope this helps. Of course do some research but if I were you I’d start looking for your same flight (let’s say you want a flight in November) for next week. Search availability next week. Recognize the pattern. Does this available seat pop up 14 days before? 21 days? Etc…

Just stayed at the Hyatt Tokyo Bay Hotel in Japan. While the property was nice and modern the service left a lot to be desired. We received no assistance with our luggage (6 total bags in all) checking in or departing. No information was given about the shuttle service explaining that the drop off and pickup points were different, depending upon where you’re going and last but not least the breakfast was average at best and by day 3 we no longer wanted any part of it.
The Hyatt Osaka although a bit outdated was a very enjoyable experience and service was exceptional

🥂 Hey Sebby! I enjoyed this video. I wish Chase would just get rid of the 5/24 rule altogether, but that’s because I’m at 4/24 and don’t want to be in Chase jail 😂😂😂. My buddy got denied for this CSP, he’s wayyy over 5/24 though.
Fair point about the Bilt card. I got it recently, but I also thought about the opportunity cost of missing out on using my rent payment to hit a minimum spend requirement. To be honest, the Bilt card would simply get sock drawered while meeting a min. spend requirement that needs that extra boost from my rent payment.

I grabbed the Bilt since my rent is high and there's no other way to earn points on rent (at least not on an ongoing basis). Bilt is a great way for me to get "free" points on something I'm already spending on. Plus they have some great transfer partners including Hyatt so I'm getting 2-3 free nights/year at decent properties essentially - almost $1000 in value pretty much with no extra outlay. But I already have a ton of Chase cards and AmEx and am still under 5/24 even with Bilt right now.

🥂 Maybe a fun datapoint. 5/24, but have been sitting on CSP and CSR (and, unrelated, Slate Edge) pre-approvals on the website for a while. Tried going for the in-branch offer on the CSP, and got auto-declined for "underwriting" liability. Banker called financing, who explicitly referred to 5/24, no issues with credit according to them, and no chance to transfer limits from another card.
Shot off the pre-approval I still had in my account out of curiosity, and now Chase needs "more time" to consider it... 🤔 (edit: TIL about 2/30 :/ )

🥂Cap1 reaped what they sowed. They gave generous CLs to those that carried revolving balances and often denied applications from high FICO, pay-in-full customers on Venture X.
I will guess Chase and AMEX are somewhat insulated from this, but I expect similar numbers from the Synchrony, Comenity, etc group of issuers that target these same Cap1 customers.

Hey Sebby! Could you tell me when does the 3 months for bonus spending start counting? When they approve my card, or when I receive the card, or when I activate the card, or else? Also, do all foreign transactions count toward the spending, including online purchases? When does the 80,000 offer expire? Thanks!

    • @robsawyer8034
      @robsawyer8034 Год назад

80K expires whenever they take it down or when they've reached the amount of targeted customers they need. The 3 months start the date of approval for most cards. All transactions count towards the 4K. In other words, once you charge 4K you hit the bonus. You'll have to pay back 4K as well.

Hi Sebby! I have to disagree with your take on the BILT card (9:10). I get many people watching your videos are credit card enthusiast (including myself), but I think the BILT card is one of the most underrated travel cards in the market. Sure it does not have a sign-on bonus (this being the main negative of the card), but this card is one of the few travel credit cards with zero annual fee (this is huge for many people who are not that invested into the credit card game and/or refuse to pay any credit card fees). There are perks such as transfer partners (AA and World of Hyatt being the most useful for me), zero foreign transaction fee, purchase protection, and primary rental car insurance (which is rare for a zero annual fee card). 3x dining, 2x travel is relatively competitive to the chase sapphire preferred ($95 annual fee) in terms of multipliers. Another thing is that the rent you charge on this card has no transaction fee (assuming you are able to make at least 5 transactions/per month which is easily doable for most people) which no other card is able to circumvent (at least not that I know of).
That being said, I do live in SoCal where rent is relatively high (so I do get a lot of value paying rent with this card). But even if you are not living in an area with high rent, this card can be great for people who want a travel card with perks and don't want to pay an annual fee.
P.S. Another negative is that this is a Wells Fargo Credit Card 🙄

🥂I got a Freedom Unlimited while I was at 5/24 last October.

🥂 while it doesn't affect me yet, getting rid of the 5/24 rule is awesome. It's a pretty goofy rule that likely wouldn't have any kind of benefit to anyone.

Do business cards count towards 5/24?

NO but you have to be under 5/24 to apply

@@kevinManhattan Oh I meant, I am currently at 5/24 including 2 business cards that I opened. If they don't count then I am at 3/24. I've found conflicting answers on this one.

@Tulku which business card is it? As long as it's not capital one, it WON'T count. I have Chase and Amex business and it didnt.

@Tulku yeah almost everyone I know said C1 business reports. I think that's where conflict comes from. I know 1000% Amex doesn't. But good news is that at worst, we know you are 4/24 now. Good luck.

🥂 I have the Amex Platinum, using your videos as a guide into the CC world. If I can afford it, does it make sense to have both the CSR and Platinum or CO Venture X and Platinum or just go with the CSP with the Platinum. Lots of future trips coming up.

5/24 is alive and well. I'm over 5/24 and decided to take a chance since a few vids came out saying it was "relaxed" Not!! I got rejected for "too many recently opened accounts".

🥂- With the CSP being a matured product, I would assume that the use cases where people are able to get it even though they are beyond 5/24 is intentional. My guess would be Chase added additional factors for these customers like minimum transaction count over a 60 day period on chase cards. Basically finding a way to justify the possible increase in interchange revenue.
