Ok, I'm probably going to get a great deal of heat for this comment. And for the record, Tony was my inspiration and I patterned my playing after. He was one of the greatest Bluegrass guitar players to ever step on a stage. He is a Bluegrass ICON. HOWEVER! I don't like his version of this song. I learned this song exactly the way it's played by Jerry, and it's actually very easy and sounds so beautiful on the guitar. Not sure why Tony chose to play it this way. Maybe he plays it differently on another recording, I'll have to check it out.
Thank you Tony Rice for setting the standard.
Tony’s picking…on man…awesome playing and what a sound!
Glad you enjoyed it
Love watching Todd Phillips play bass!
JD must not have known this song that well.
1:17-1:48 I'd say that pretty well covered how the guitar break should be played!!!!!!!

Yep, that's Bobby.. RIP!
someone knows what type of dobro is?
Around that time Jerry was playing an RQ Jones reso.
It might also be a Scheerhorn.. couldn't say for sure. Amazing sounding instrument though.
