Ikamper Sky Camp 2.0 In Depth Review

- After 6 months of having the Ikamper Sky Camp 2.0 I wanted to give an in depth review of the rooftop tent we decided to purchase for our extended overland travels. There is plenty to choose from these days when it comes to rooftop tents and it seems like they all have a similar design. So what makes the Ikamper Sky Camp 2.0 different or better than the others? Also, if you're new to the overlanding community you are probably asking yourself why someone would spend this kind of money on a roof top tent? In this video I go over all the specs and talk about all the features that helped me make the decision to purchase the Ikamper rooftop tent over all the other options out there as well as discuss its overall durability, functionality and logic behind why I think this rooftop tent is the best choice for our families overland adventures.

Brother this channel should be blowing up because you do a great job. Real dude delivering real commentary and bringing great fresh perspective.
😂😂 you’re the man! Thanks for always showing love, due! I appreciate it more than you know.
Thanks for taking the time to share your modifications.
Great review Josh, really insightful. This one has been on our radar for a little while - the weight is a bit disconcerting with our JL already having a smaller payload capacity but the space + comfort does balance that out a bit for us. Regardless, thanks for an awesome video, got us thinking!
Anytime, dude! We really do love the tent despite its few drawbacks.
Great video Josh!
Thank you, sir!
I have a Skycamp 2.0 and I use Exped Megamat inflatable mattresses in lieu of the mattress pads provided by ikamper. Not only are they more comfortable than the originals, but when deflated I’m able to keep two sleeping bags, 3 thin synthetic down quilts and two pillows and easily close the lid. As far as condensation, I installed adhesive carpet tiles down, and I have zero condensation. I love love love my ikamper.
I was looking at the exped today actually. Now that I know I can fit my sleeping stuff inside I’m definitely going to grab one. Thanks for the idea!
@@roamingwithjosh The Exped MegaMat Duo 10 and the MegaMat 10 long, extra wide and together they fit the two respective sections of the iKamper perfectly. It squinches up a *tad* against the door-side due to the fold-out section being a few inches shorter than the main platform, but it fits. I put a fitted sheet down over the top and it’s perfect. The iKamper Skycamp 3.0 was displayed at the SEMA show and it looks like iKamper is going to be offering their own version of the Exped inflatable mats, but they won’t be standard. The 3.0 and all new iKampers also have thicker and improved mattress pads and the shell of the tent is bigger to accommodate more sleeping materials.
Sick! I’ll pick them both up right now! Appreciate the info.
After watching many reviews I'm seriously considering this or the mini. Ill wait for the 3.0 version to come out, which should be soon. As for not being able to store bedding in it, yea, I could see how that would be a bummer for most, but, I cant store my bedding in my ground tent, so, not a big deal to me. Great review, thanks for sharing.
It’s been a solid tent and it fits our entire family, the bedding is always going to be an issue for us. Thanks for the comment!
Awesome review. Just got mine and really miss being able to store sleeping items in the tent. Also didn’t consider it before the purchase.
It’s definitely one thing I completely forgot about until I didn’t have it. Thank you!
Buy nice or buy twice!
Agreed!
Hi Josh. Great review. Do you have excessive sway when driving on highway? Thanks.
We do not, at least I do not feel any kind of sway outside of the normal jeep feeling. Hope that’s helpful.
Great review…..
Thank you!
Excellent comments
There is metal bracket for gas chamber lifter in case of high wind
Dang it, I forgot about that. That is a great little tool. Thanks for mentioning that!
Great review as ever Josh, keep up the good work, not sure you mentioned the weight though 🤔🤭🤭🤭
Lolol I feel like I did!
@@roamingwithjosh I'll have to check 🤣🤣🤣
In case you didn't know you don't have to push each set of locks on each step. The very last one when you push them collapses all of them. That's definitely a big boy up there but for your family size I get it. Way bigger than I would use though.
Are you serious!? I literally had no idea about that.
how do you feel about the shell now? still holding up any cracks or weakening due to sun or temperatures?
It's still holding up strong. The only issue we have is that the top is starting to show signs of sun damage and discoloration.
“Get what you think is going to make your travels the most enjoyable”……that’s a good way of framing it. The more enjoyment your family has the more they’ll want to keep going.
The other great thing about big investments in gear is you then have the explanation to your spouse “we have all this money invested in gear so we have to go on all these trips to get our money’s worth.” I’m guessing I’m not the only one that makes that pitch. 🤷🏼♂️
😂😂 that was really good. I’m about to pitch that right now. I’ll let you know how it shakes out.
Can you use that with a soft top on your Jeep or does the hard top have to be on? Thanks.
You can use it with a soft top as long as you have some type of rack to mount the tent to.
What’re the weight limits on these shits? I’ve never been in one or even seen one open in person but mechanically just having some aluminum fold out without anything supporting it besides a latter off at some angle doesn’t seem the most stable for my big ass
4 season tents would be with more duck/cotton canvas material which i do think ikamper uses not sure though.
I'm not sure either. I appreciate the comment!
@@roamingwithjosh so i looked it up. The 2.0 is 4 season and it is cotton canvas material :)

If you go for the ikamper grey insulation instead of the white you can get it for the 2.0.
That’s what I’ve been told. Thank you!
Can you not post comments on RUclips if there is a link? I tried 2 times to post that comment with the link to the insulation and it seems like it didn’t post
RUclips won’t let you post links which is brutal
Freespirt High country is 4 season
Thanks!
@@roamingwithjosh high country premium sorry
Great vid josh many thx but for this kind of money this is a no deal for me,,,this tent sits in the high end dollar bracket and you cant even leave youre sleeping gear up there and close it,,plzzzz game over,,,,next
I don’t disagree with that opinion whatsoever! Thanks for the comment.
Fwiw the skycamp 2X you can leave your bedding in it when you close it. It’s has a smaller footprint than the 2.0 though.
