Johnny .Bravo KBG spreads out and fills in. I've taken plugs from a good spot 3-4 times now and its filled in all the holes. by moving plugs I can have full strength pre-emergent down. if I put down seed I couldn't and then weeds could come in.
First of all, as I have mentioned to you previously, your kids are very cute! And it is great seeing you spending time with them. The lawn is coming along nicely. Thank you for sharing the progress.
Great stuff, looks like the plugs are working out well, I will also give this method a try... question, with the high quality grass seed you ordered (Premium KBG) what to you estimate your germination success percentage ended up for the main front lawn? ( I am sure your hill section along the street was more challenging ) .. thanks in advance... keep the videos coming, really enjoy your work with the kids included..
I didn't see a difference between regular KBG for "germination %". The only difference is the cheaper stuff usually is a mix so the rye comes in really fast. But this was pure KBG so it's taking it's time!
Did a complete lawn renovation from scratch 2 years ago and got hit bad with fungus last year. I live on Long Island, NY and the lawn is just starting to green up after putting down starter fertilizer last week, but the spots that died last year are not coming back. I have a 70% Kentucky bluegrass/30% perennial rye grass lawn, do you think the proplugger would work better than re-seeding the thin/dead spots? I found your channel looking up info on KBG rhizomes spreading, and I see you have several videos on it. In your experience does the KBG spread quickly with plugging?
Yes in the spring time when the flush hits it will. The key is to mow frequently during that time. When you mow it releases a hormone that tells KBG to spread. That and more nitrogen will get it to fill in pretty good. The Proplugger I use to fill spots larger than a 5 gallon bucket lid.
I currently have tall fescue I was wondering can I add Kentucky blue grass, which is what I prefer, or do I need to kill the whole yard then put down my Kentucky bluegrass?
Grass Daddy when you replace the dirt plugs what about putting them in a wheelbarrow and mixing in some compost and plugs and shovel in enriched dirt in the holes
his source is a youtuber named Connor Ward. Connor Ward thinks his grass is really thick because of the frequent mowing but not the 10,000 other things he does to his lawn
Well I have to say I never seen this plugger before. That is totally awesome bro!, Did you purchase on Amazon? I will definitely purchase this tool. Thanks!
John Lindborg I could but the KBG will fill in and take over faster than growing from seed. the reno I seeded this spring is only an inch tall whereas the plugs I moved you cant even tell a difference.
Good stuff...where is your geographical location? I live in middle Ga. my lawn is Bermuda probably about the size of yours (6100 sq ft in total). I'm proud to say I have the best lawn in my sub-division. And would be safe to say the lawn expert. The one thing i really envy when watching you work in your lawn is the nice deep black soil. Red clay soil mix around these parts. :( But I make it work. I'm Always looking for tips, ideas, etc. Thanks for posting your vids. And I do recommend to check out "Grass Daddy" on youtube to folks that might inquire. Though we have different grass types/locations still very useful info that want to seriously get into their on lawns.
I'm in Rhode Island.. The soil is great but VERY rocky. I appreciate you telling people about me ;-) check out thelawnforum.com - there are some really hardcore bermuda lawn guys there. I'm trying to get more cool season lawn addicts there lol but the warm season section is always active.
ok why take from a good area and make two problem areas rather then seed a bad area and xover with some good top soil and or good compost.

First of all, as I have mentioned to you previously, your kids are very cute! And it is great seeing you spending time with them. The lawn is coming along nicely. Thank you for sharing the progress.
Thanks!
Nice job! I totally need to get a Proplugger.
Your,kids are adorable and helpful
the kids are so cute, you're a lucky guy. Hopefully, they'll still want to help even when they become teenagers!
+tongsli thanks!
Coming along well. Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
I'M MIND BLOWN!!!!!!

I currently have tall fescue I was wondering can I add Kentucky blue grass, which is what I prefer, or do I need to kill the whole yard then put down my Kentucky bluegrass?
+Macomb Cougars you can overseed it in. most people use mixes of tttf and kbg
Grass Daddy thanks keep up the good work
Is plugging effective for tall fescue grass?
TheBaseballLiker no, TTTF doesnt spread. however most seed mixes have 10% or more of KBG.
i got my pro pluger but the ground has been really wet. does the ground have to be dry to pull the plugs. i can't seem to get them out of the ground.
we have had constant rain and it worked fine. I would go for it, worse thing that happens you gotta wait.
Nice. Where have you been hiding?
How long and how often do u water the plugs?
I give them a good soak every day for a few days and then water it like normal ;-)
awesome!! good video to watch at work.
Also plugs being mature is heartier then new grass growing from seed and plugs are free
yes great point!
Grass Daddy when you replace the dirt plugs what about putting them in a wheelbarrow and mixing in some compost and plugs and shovel in enriched dirt in the holes
+drew0357 you could do that but its easier to just flip the plugs =P
What's your source that mowing low and frequently promotes rhizome growth? I've been searching but can't find info about it.
I will have to find it I know I linked to it in one of my videos but hard to find on phone
his source is a youtuber named Connor Ward. Connor Ward thinks his grass is really thick because of the frequent mowing but not the 10,000 other things he does to his lawn
English style yards are based on mowing frequently, like 3 times a week. this promotes thick growth.
Well I have to say I never seen this plugger before. That is totally awesome bro!, Did you purchase on Amazon? I will definitely purchase this tool. Thanks!
+Bizzy Beez lawn-n-landscape you can buy them direct, proplugger.com
Thanks!, One more thing, what do recommend for spacing 4" on center?
+Bizzy Beez lawn-n-landscape I go 4in deep and I pull randomly but try to have each plug 3 inched away from each other.
Nice
nice bro
Couldn't you just put seed in the bare spots?
John Lindborg I could but the KBG will fill in and take over faster than growing from seed. the reno I seeded this spring is only an inch tall whereas the plugs I moved you cant even tell a difference.

you need to do soil testing. Kentucky bluegrass spreads by rhizomes and will fill in naturally if the soil is right.
Yup I test every spring ;)
They're darlin
