Great video! I have tried plugging parts of my lawn for the first time this year. I don't know your lawn or soil as well as you do but I would suggest using the rings that come with the pro plugger to ensure that each plug is the same depth. If I recall you can use the provided rings with the pro plugger for 2", 4", and 6"(no ring) to get the desired depth of plug. I used the 4" ring and was satisfied with the depth. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! Yeah I realized I forgot to mention the different depths you can pull with the plugger after I finished the video. I initially tried to pull 6" plugs to get as much root mass as possible but with how rocky things are around here it was not practical so I used the ring to give me 4" plugs. That worked much better. Thank you for watching and your support!
Love your video. The pro plugger is a great tool. As other commentators have mentioned, use the rings. A 2 inch plug seems to be Ok with bermuda. No need to bust a boiler by slamming the plugger into the ground, a simple screw action works well and makes a clean edge as well as separating the roots below the ground surface. Empty the tube when you get 8 or so plugs. What I found was a good Idea and I didn't see it in your video, use the empty (ungrown) plugs to backfill the good ones, they slot straight in.
Great video Ben! Got your card, stickers, and prize this week. Looking forward to proudly displaying everything and spreading all that liquid fun! Today's project: irrigation
Thank you! Yes I definitely think this area is gonna fill in, in no time. It's been nice not having to break out the sprinklers with all the rain we've been getting.
Great Vid! Coming along well! Great job and explanation of process. PS: Appreciate the the letter and Stick as well as the N-ext Tee and Tumbler! Head in out to mow now! Peace, Chad Upstate NY
Awesome! I'm glad this was so helpful for you! Here's the results video I shot about 6 weeks after the plugs were installed. ruclips.net/video/iZRF8ICifkc/видео.html ! Thank you for watching and for your support!
I have done both and am currently growing in 4500sqft of bermuda with sprigs. Based on my experience the plugs filled in a little faster. Plugs already have an established root system so the plant can to start growing laterally much faster than sprigs since sprigs have to establish root first. How quickly plugs or sprigs spread and completely fill in an area is going to depend on a lot of factors, one of which would be the sprig and plug rate in an area. Thanks for watching. Here's the latest video on my sprigging project if you'd like to watch. I plan to do an update video soon. ruclips.net/video/V8Gh5LKIzA8/видео.html
Hey Jayme! Thanks for checking this video out. Unfortunately, I no longer live at this house with this bermuda patch but here's the results video I shot about 6 weeks after the plugs were installed. ruclips.net/video/iZRF8ICifkc/видео.html ! Thank you again for your support!
My Bermuda grass plugs do not have lot of root growth, so I get the sprigs on my grass before I mow my grass. The roots of the sprigs are easier to plant and “take root” better.
Looks really good! How soon after plugging can you mow? Just plugged my lawn a week ago with Latitude Bermuda. What determines how fast the plugs are able to root?
I can't remember how soon I mowed. It wasn't longer after, maybe a week or two and then I was pretty consistent on mowing. I believe the variety of Bermuda places a part in how quickly it will root and start spreading.
I have a different kind of question. What effect will Prodiamine have on bermudagrass plugs? I have just treated my Altlanta Georgia Bermudagrass lawn with full rate Prodiamine ( .83 ) March 9, 2020. I have plans to plug in about a month when the Bermuda grass comes out of dormant Will the pretreatment effect the roots from retarding or “club rooting?”
Great question. From what I researched prior to doing this project, a pre-emergent can cause some issues for the roots coming off the stolons when the plugs begin to spread which can slow the growth of the plugs overall. If you loosen the soil in the area you want to put plugs, it can lesson the chance of the pre-emergent from causing this issue. I'd recommend reading the label of whatever pre-emergent you used to follow it's recommendations.
Preemergents don’t normally state their recommendation on the label about Bermudagrass plugs. I guess braking the protective barrier & the plugger pulling out 2”-3” of soil, and all the rain I’m getting. If I also wait until May to start. It might have little to no effect with any luck.
@@matthewinga9546 I gotcha. I couldn't remember if I got some of my info from the label or from just speaking to professionals like Matt Martin. Good luck with your plugging project. Once you start, send me pics of your plugging project to my email. thelawnguardian@gmail.com
@@matthewinga9546 so I was reading through the Prodiamine 65 WDG label and immediately thought of your question when I read this. "Prodiamine 65WDG may be used on newly sprigged or plugged Bermudagrass at rates not to exceed .80lb./A. (.30oz./1000sqft.) Newly sprigged or plugged Bermudagrass stolon rooting may be temporarily retarded." This is straight from the label of this particular prodiamine product. If I could take a picture of it and post it to this comment I would. I hope this helps.

Don’s Lawns Bermuda for president!
ReelBob Shady 😂😂
Do you put the dirt plugs back in the holes where you pulled the bermuda plugs out?
That is what I did.
Very nice. I like how the bermuda was already filling in when you did the prep work. #alphagrass #flipflopmowsquad
Thank you! The way this grass spreads and fills in so quickly is nuts. The random sprigs rooting down are what I find so impressive.
Where did you purchase the CarbonX and RGS Humic 12?
Did you actually put some soil back into those harvested area? Or did you just leave it empty?
I put soil back into the harvested area.
I heard sprigging is twice as fast as plugs, I am doing both, both working well, still early but looks like the sprigs will win in spreading
