I know this video 2 yrs old but bimmi is the ultimate Bermuda grass the runners are so fence... it is superior to any other Bermuda grass I have ever seen.... once established it feels like you're walking on a padded carpet.... Great stuff!!!!!
@@Thelawncarenut We definitely notice. I feel I can speak for most that we actually have withdrawals when podcasts and videos are spread out longer than several hours.... I think it's becoming a problem
Wow LakeWood Ranch! My Parents lived there! I used to make side money plugging the Condo Associations over by da Meadows in Sarasota. I bet we plugged over 5 acres there over a 2 year period! Pursley’s St. Aug plugs. Truckloads and truckloads of trays!
I used the Yard Buttler plugged to plant the Empire Zoysia plugs I got from the LCN store. They are doing great even though I created some heat stress for them before planting. I did that same staggered row pattern as well. Looks a little easier on bare soil to keep the pattern going.
I learned so much in this video. Thank you. I love that your pants are still clean at the end. I'm in Indiana so my yard is mostly sand , great for corn , for a lawn - not so much.
I put down rye and Bermuda seed this week. Hot weather. Water bill will be higher than the electric bill! I need that free Lowe's bucket by the way. :)
@LawncareNut I tried looking for plugs on the website and none are advertised. The plugs I bought are as wide as my thumb. Maybe you could point us to where those 3-4 inch plugs are sold
After having Bermuda grass in California, I swore when I moved to Florida Never again! It easily spreads into planters and are almost impossible to eradicate. They rhizomes break off under ground when you dig them up, and they just multiply.
Hey Allen. First of.. I've really enjoyed your channel and appreciate all the work you do. So thanks for that! Now down to business. My large breed puppy did a number on my backyard leaving some large bare spots that did not fare well during the winter. I live in Pennsylvania. I planned on seeding this fall based on your recommendation, however I'm having some work done on my backyard soon that will result in a large section of grass that will be discarded. Do you recommend I transplant that grass instead of seeding the barespots this fall?
Ooh, please show and update on this plugged area! I really need to do this and just want to see if it's worth it. Unfortunately, I have really sandy soil :(
My buddy Chris will be taking daily pictures and we will share them for sure - takes a good 2 weeks or so to get the results we are looking for. The soil over here in Manatee is quite sandy too - it was just very wet on this day so it makes it look darker and no like the sugar it normally is.
Hey, I have a question. I’m sick and tired of taking care of my st. augustine yard in the front and back. I had a horrible year from grubs and fungus. now have i a ton of bare spots.I’m over throwing down a ton of chemicals. I’ve been doing some research and came to find out zoysia is the best Low maintenance grass especially here in Miami. My question is... do you think if i put zoysia plugs in those bare spots, Zoysia will over come the st. Augustine as time passes? I really would love to save the money and time so i dont have to sod the hole front and back yard. I don’t mind 2 types of grass especially if the zoysia will grow thick and full like i see it do.
I'm new to lawn care love how informative you are I just saw your video on lawn plugs. And I was wondering do they make them for cool season lawns? I live in nj. I'm not exactly sure what grass type I even have I've looked at pictures to try and figure it out but haven't had much success
welcome! There are no plugs for cool season turf because they don't spread as aggressively (rhizomes) as warm season turf does. You are better off doing some fall overseeding and I have videos on this in the playlist section to help you.
Pro plugger would have worked fine if you took the plugs with it too. I have no clue why you'd literally try to fit a square peg into a round hole by taking a plug with one and digging a hole with a different one.
Over here in Oz I am going to grow a lawn from plugs using Zoysia Matrella, or Shadetuff as it is called here. I would assume the plug spacing would have to be closer due to the slower growth. Am I correct here?
Tim Fischer...Warm grass plugs work because the grass will spread out quickly with runners above the ground AND ryzomes (think root runners) below. They’ll aggressively spread and choke out baby weeds (especially with a little help). The surrounding bare spots will totally fill in quickly. Cool grasses essentially don’t spread except by seed, so plugs would just grow in place, surrounded by dirt and eventually weeds.
Thanks for the video! Question- can you seed cool weather grass twice in the fall? Maybe early September and mid October? Just trying to really fill in some areas! And what would you recommend throwing down over the seed? Thanks!!
The Lawn Care Nut Thanks! Really appreciate the response! I’m in NC so I think I should be ok for the two times. I have a tall fescue blend right now (I think). So when you say do more ryegrass, as a novice I’m not sure I fully understand :). I thought I’d always just do a turf type tall fescue blend no? (Maybe ryegrass falls into that category haha?). Thanks again!
Had to laugh at the doveweed part, every time I mulch, i feel like I'm mulching Doveweed limbs. Doveweed is the bain of my existence, awful stuff. Good video

Saint Augustine will take over your house if you let it. I doubt you will win that fight without chemicals.

Nice video bro!
How long will it take for the plugs to cover the whole area?
Over here in Oz I am going to grow a lawn from plugs using Zoysia Matrella, or Shadetuff as it is called here. I would assume the plug spacing would have to be closer due to the slower growth. Am I correct here?
Any chance of getting cool season plugs? Some already established KBG plugs would be awesome to plop in spots in my backyard!

Another awesome video and great info, have you ever heard of people using warm season grass for cool season weather? Like in mn ?
I don't think it would work. It can't survive the winter.
Bermuda is so invasive you can buy a bag of seed at Lowes and it will take off with little to no water super fast in warm weather.

Thanks for the video! Question- can you seed cool weather grass twice in the fall? Maybe early September and mid October? Just trying to really fill in some areas! And what would you recommend throwing down over the seed? Thanks!!
yes if you are not too far north just include more ryegrass in the second seeding. peat moss is a good cover for seed.
Rye grass germinates faster so is better for later seeding but as far south as you are I recommend you stick with turf type tall fescue
