- I finally found the perfect place to build the ultimate car guy compound. Tons of car parts, tools, and a motorcycle were left behind. So today we're going to sort through everything, throw a ton of stuff away, and start cleaning things up. A new house, a new shop, and a place to build cars better than ever before... but the house has some strange secrets of it's own.

Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Goldwing, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make RUclips videos.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
Where can I keep up with you off the bike?
Instagram: WatchJRGo
Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

We need a video with your father. Whatever he’s currently working on.
If his pops wasnt already set with what he is doing, he could have a channel with 100x the success.
Yes please, if for no other reason than whatever he will be saying doesn't go completely over my head....
yeah, this audio thing is getting boring.
@@vadim7590i just don't get it , i don't understand the point
His dad always blows me mind. How 1 dude has amassed that much knowledge and ability. Crazy.
J R I really enjoy your videos. I’m 75 year old grandma. I didn’t understand anything you were saying. Way over my old head. But for some reason I watch it. The only thing I know. You are bringing this house from the past to the future. Are you finished with your lake house? Have a great day and God bless
"If you can see that tiny little nub..." We can't if you don't point the camera at it. =P
Glad to see the old C4 stuff getting some use! I work for an intergrator actually, so if you need anything let me know! I'm just a state away so it'd be easy to help out if needed! I do have some old C4 stuff laying around the shop as well!
As a car enthusiast software engineer who likes messing with technology and watching home/track renovations (see the Freedom Factory and Abandoned Mansion), the content on this channel is *chef’s kiss*.
Great epi JR. Especially, "garage on!" and then that sh*t eating grin on your face...every guy knows that feeling. That's the kind of stuff that makes life worth living.
Yes! I love the home audio deep dive videos. I love coming across older pro gear. Like the old lighting you had in the shop. I worked in production audio and lighting for years. Could probably still program a HOG 1000 and Avolites pearl in my sleep.
Old school is a relative term. I have a 1953 Marantz with 80's KLHs. lol
JR, it was great working with you for this project!
Thanks for the help Tyler!! 💯
Surely most people just use headphones
@@David-ss9lh Especially working in garage.
Tyler, does the EA-1 output audio via HDMI? I have a AVM-16A2-B 16 channel amp I'd love to repurpose but the amp only has RCA inputs and an ethernet port. Is there a way to make this old amp useable again?
@@badcorgis it does, from there we’re using an HDMI Audio extractor 🍻
Listening to JR talk about all this home tech stuff sounds like someone speaking Klingon with a French accent. No idea what's being talked about but still interesting.
This should make working on the garage concrete much more enjoyable
Absolutely, not an abandoned job site anymore 🍻
Are you going to integrate this system into the new shop, or go with another system out there?@@WatchJRGo
@@WatchJRGo You probably already know this but......make sure to label/number all of your cables on both ends then list/diagram where each goes.
Also don't skimp on battery backup/ surge protection
One day you might be very glad you took the extra steps to do it correctly.
old networking/hardware guy
Your audio system is probably put together better than 90% of the people out there JR. We still listen to cds since we have so many mixes and I still have my 45 yr old Hitachi receiver I bought after getting married. With JBL tower speakers it sounds great. People still collect vinyl because of the depth of the sound. Looking good!
At least send the seller a $25 dining card for honoring his sale and sending you back the $80. . Nothing is free..
It works, I'd say he owes full price. I'm sure that's what he did because he seems like a stand-up guy! He doesn't have to be told by the internet.
i really like the idea of moving the RO unit out of the kitchen and using it to also feed the refrigerator. They're made pretty cheaply and they've been known to spring leaks and destroy expensive kitchen cabinets and floors. It would be nice to be able to remove or bypass the refrigerator charcoal filter since its not needed. one less maintenance item would be a plus
Yes, I do not use my Refrigerator filter, the R/O does the job.
I am glad you called it an audio system rather than an Audiophile system. The only thing you could have said to inflict more pain on an Audiophile than using SONOS is if you had said
you were installing a BOSE system.
A Crestron Home Automation guy is old, heck I am an X-10/ Plug-In Power guy, I must be truly ancient :) Nice job on getting the Control 4 system up, you know what Klipsch's motto is "Pissing off the neighbors since 1948"
I did have one of those big old X10 kits from radioshack back in the day 😂
JR is the literal embodiment of “Jack of all trades.”
Us custom guys just made those cables back in the day ourselves. Making the system work so anyone can use it is the main aim for sure. I've had a smart home for quite a long time and I just keep upgrading because I'm a dealer and I could never live without one again. The only thing I don't like is the subscription and licenses that Control 4 has. I could be wrong about those since I haven't programmed Control 4 for a very long long time and do not know much about them anymore. Mainly when it just came out. Crestron Home all the way for me. Good job. Might want to think about light dimmers from Control 4 though instead of the ones you mentioned. Makes it much easier to keep everything on one app.
Get this man to 400K he’s one of the most talented and entertaining creators on this platform. He is him!!
RE: The eBay seller, IMO the unit had been sitting for some time not plugged in and the the capacitors needed to be charged before the unit would turn on. Most eBay sellers are trying to make ends meet selling items, this is a used items but is working, This was not free for the seller - item , shipping & packing cost. Noise and discoloration should be excepted from a older used unit. Please do the right thing. Thank you!
Yeah I agree, big fan of you JR and I was honestly shocked when you said you got a refund for a working item and haven’t contacted the seller. Seems out of character for you. Maybe the spray foam guys have stolen your innocence 😂
Man says "Look at the metal nub." whilst being the one holding the camera and pointing to the place we are intended to be looking.
But grats, big fan of the tech and entire basement setup.
So much tech in your house. It makes mine look like it's from the Flintstones. If I want music in every room, I'll use ear buds and my phone.
Jr. How about (yet another) channel with some geeky deep dives into more of your projects? Like folks are wanting details on this, like me, but I understand that level of detail isn’t for everyone. Not just tech, but the trade stuff , lights , programming, sound, pluming , even the foundation job. Im not sure it would make $ense however, but cool way to document stuff
Some electronics manufacters use circuit glue to stabilize large components such as capacitors. As it ages it becomes conductive and burns. Dig it off and it might fix your amp.
Funny how you hate when someone disagrees with what you’re doing but you do it in at least half your videos 😂. PEX, lighting, TVs whatever you’re always talking about how only your way is the way that works 😂
Just because it's old doesn't mean it doesn't sound good and can still be used, you just don't get all the latest features and toys. I have a Denon 4700 that can do just about any audio format and has 9.1 speaker amps, Dolby Atmos, 8k video et etc. I've never done full home audio but I've been doing surround sound since the early days before 5.1 etc.
My first sub was a passive Radio Shack 12" that actually sounded really good, even better when I added a heath kit big amp to power it. It sounded clean and went surprisingly low. The speaker foam finally rotted so no good now and I have a couple cheap but decent enough powered subs now. I'd recommend a sub or two in your favorite areas if you want to do some serious listening, then play tubular Bells Michael Oldfeild I think it was. It has some really low harmonics that are unbelievable on a good sub and system.
Love getting a good deal too, keep it up 😎
Actually, water is closer to 9 lbs/gal. A good rule of thumb is gasoline: 6 lbs/gal, jet fuel/kerosine/diesel: 7 lbs/gal, motor oil: 8 lbs/gal and water: 9 lbs/gal.
The brown stuff around a capacitor is likely adhesive to prevent it from lifting off the board in shipment. The problem with some of that adhesive is that some types turn conductive after x amount of time, which is likely what has prevented your power supply from starting
I kept looking for the English versions because everything you said in your opening was greek to me 😮😂
Although I understand about 10%, your excitement is contagious.
So good to see you with Jake, love videos from both channels ❤
Very cool =) It's crazy how much you can save by buying older high-end audio gear...
Sweet audio magic, JR, and good to see Jake too. 🙂👍
Those are cool systems! I wanted one back in the early days.
Glad to hear the seller helped you. Had a similar situation and the seller ghosted me.
that's a pretty cool piece of kit, it looks like it gets real loud too!
Nice video! Cool you got the older system to work!
I absolutely LOVE picking up lightly used high end audio equipment. There are some amazing deals out there for stuff like that.
JR: "If you can see that tiny little nub."
Me: No...I can't. Gotta point the camera at it. Haha.
In a future episode: JR cranks the audio up to 11, RickRolls the entire neighborhood. :D
I feel like there's a TON of info missing here that would be super helpful for anyone not familiar with all the equipment... We bought our house with an old Control4 amp and receiver and I've been told there's nothing that can be done because it's too old. After seeing this video maybe all I need is an EA1 to send data to the amp? You said 2 hours of programming which I assume was in Composer and THAT would have been awesome to see. That's the mystery part of this for me and understanding how to gain access to their equipment without being a dealer.
I agree. It kinda went from’wires’ to ‘here is up on my phone’.
Great Vid JR. Love the old school electronics. I love hard wire. Its so much easier for me and i think the sound is much cleaner.
just a FYI the RCAs/interconnects if they are really tight, loosen it to install it and remove it then tighten it to lock it on.
I do like all the different stuff you've been doing, and i like how you do thing's right, and get some good deal's. You're good dinosaur lol, appreciate the content. G-d bless.
Gear like this was my dream when I was a kid, even though it's older now it's awesome to have! 🍻
I said it before and I'll say it again...The breadth of your knowledge blows me away!
I’m sorry but whoever on Reddit said you can’t do all this with Control4 doesn’t know Control4. These things, even the old ones, are amazing and work great even in modern homes.
Get som de-ox it from parts express or a electronics repair supply place, and spray the stuff around that IC. itt will clean it up,
They call it technician in a can
Well that's one way to introduce yourself to the neighbors! Haha. Very cool JR!
Man I missed an opportunity a year or so back to buy some of this same audio stuff through an auction from an old movie theater in my town! Wish I would have bought it now lol 😂
I'm sure the spray foam guy showed up and fixed everything like he said he would.
Nope, he's busy with his audio. I mean everyone needs superb audio first before remodeling the broke down house.
@@bluetwinbill794 He seems to be doing things in a logical order to me but whatever. People like to complain.
He did… not the way I wanted it fixed but it is done!
@@bluetwinbill794 you realize the wire has to go in while we’re working on it right? You also need music to work.
JR, I forgot to comment on your Basement Flooded video... when you were showing the electronics that narrowly escaped disaster by physically moving them, it occurred to me that maybe you could create a channel for future water to go behind the plywood. Yeah, I know you have plans to fix the problems, but a little insurance would give ME peace of mind, if it was my expensive electronics... yeah, it would probably be a pain to remove the plywood and create a channel behind it, but...
Just my uneducated 2 cents talking.
Klipsch build amazing speakers.. I have a klipsch setup and the bass is enough to make the tin roof vibrate on our house
One of my favs is the audio system in Amber’s Tracker. Keep doing audio vids.
JR what’s that sick track you played in the garage?
Planet Waves cables are easily field terminated. Loosen the flathead screw on the side, pull the connector off, cut with a cleaver style cutter (P-Waves includes one with each box of cable), push connector back on, tighten screw, test of continuity (tip to tip, ring to ring, make sure ring to tip is open) and you are GTG. I go through several boxes of wire and a few hundred connectors a year.
Thanks for showing the speaker when saying if you can see that 😂 jeepers
please make a video on plumbing your filtration system. I am curious to see how you go from water softener to R.O. unit or vise versa
How did you handle licencing for Composer? Interested in a similar setup but cant program. Thanks
I used to be into these big home audio systems, but the portable speakers are so good now it seems like a lot of work for not much benefit.
Yeah, I really can't understand going to all this effort and expense when you can just buy a handful of bluetooth speakers and use your phone.
I’d much rather use a Bluetooth speaker myself😂 all of this mess and expense could be avoided and it’s a much cleaner and use friendly experience.
Very envious of your tech/networking ability!! Very impressive!
All you said about your audio controller went over my head lol but I'm into the renovations and such. Also like how neat and organized you are. Great set up!!!
Love the enthusiasm, great energy JR!
How is it dealing with the software license to use composer?
I've been threatening to do a surround system in my living room. My wife sent me on a mission, a few years ago, to get a big TV. I got a "BIG" TV! She has been much cooler toward a surround system. If I can do this on the cheap...I might convince her.
Thanks for your time and I love the system.
If your just doing a basic 5.1 system and can run wires it can be done very cheep.
The real issue is integrateing the controls. Anything that is pre hdmi arc would need its own controller as most new tv remotes don't allow adding devices. But the pre arc stuff is super cheep and almost anything is a upgrade from tv speakers.
For my friend I got him a old dolby pro logic 1 recever that came with speakers and wires for $30 cad. And was a good intro to him for sound. (Use windows virtual surround to drive prologic outputs) Although I really don't recommend going that old. At least get something that can do dolby digital and dts.
I also built my other friends a tiny apartment setup with a hdmi arc audio extractor, Cambridge soundworks pc speaker subwoofer/amp and realistic minimus 7's for a basic under $100 2.1 setup. It sounds way better than the tv speakers and can be volume controled by the tv remote as the arc extractor has volume control on the headphone out.
The bigget hurdle is getting the various technologies to work together.
Thank you Andrew. I'm looking to go a little more modern. I just need to convince the better half it's worth the time and a couple hundred bucks. She is not a believer hehehehe@@andrewmcewan9145
It could be that the Amp had sat for so long the capacitors lost their charge and became unstable. Needing them to be reformed to come back to life; and maybe by shutting it off and on those few times and then the switching supply cycling with the tick tick sound it was progressively reforming the caps tell they came back to life. The power supply may just run now and not need to be replaced at all.
What Klipsch in wall speakers are they? I'm finishing my basement and I'm looking for in wall/in ceiling speakers.
Good job on going Control4 brother. It’s a whole lot more affordable than people think. It is professional equipment. Am EA3 his plenty to run everything you need all on one singular platform.
So how did you program the C4? I did C4 from 2013-2017 but now that I’m out I have no access to programming anymore.
Just google composer jailbreak 🍻
Ugh…. When Jake pulled the cover off the speaker you were talking about it but never showed it. I was yelling at my phone to pan up! Cool system though.
You should put a sticker on the glass that says " in case of cyber attack break the glass and pull the cables."
The brown stuff in the power supply might be glue, on some older electronics the glue would go conductive and cause issues. If you can swap in another power supply and verify it's the issue, recap the original with Panasonic, Nichicon, etc. caps and reinstall it, a replacement PSU will have the same issue eventually if they used bad caps.
Yep, I think EEVBlog had a video on that topic on some Studio Monitors. "EEVblog #1073"
I found the Home stereo, install very interesting. I would love to see another video on the specifics of how you install it, and how it gets plugged in and how you run the wire to the speakers.
I was gonna ask if you knew Crestron stuff. We used their control systems extensively in my pre-retirement university AV gig.
Also, Klipsch makes good stuff. My 15" sub (Klipsch R-115SW) is just awesome, it goes very LOUD and it goes DEEP, 18Hz -3dB.
Pretty cool. If there weren't so many people living in my house, I would do something like this. But none of them want to hear my audiobooks.😂
Can you not find legacy software for those on the major torrent websites or even the manufacturer website?
How does the system work with Apple AirPlay? I have been using Apple tv’s and old AirPort Express’ to get airplay around the house.
Remember kids, hearing loss is a one way street. It never comes back. Non-trolling comment : I know a couple of people who have whole house sound/ zones and all that stuff. They never used it. And now they use wireless noise cancelling headphones to watch telly.
Party on Wayne, Party on Garth
How did Jake get the black and blue Hoovies shirt? I need one to match my Jordans
Dang, I had a Rhapsody amp that I got from Radio Shack 40 years ago that I was going to send you to power up your house. It even has phono and cassette inputs which I don't think your new components have.
Amazing purchase... Even sounds great!
Epic steal on the audio man!
As an Extron guy, I commend you.
You are a great installer
I haven't seen anyone this fired up since my son got the GI Joe with the Kung Fu grip!
This is almost a Tech Throwback episode
Is there a channel devoted to home automation? I need more of this
A Question can't you do the same with google ? I have in my House and i think it sound just as good . With home group . just asking .
I didn't understand a damn thing you said...but I still watched.
Not sure if having the RO filters over the outlet is a great idea.
Know you enjoy things LIT but not how you get there ….
Just mount the recept higher on the wall
Amazon echo's, that's my whole house audio 🤣
How would you tie this into a home theater or surround system? Bi-amp front speakers and separate receiver for each surround setup?
Speakers make noise 🙌
Looking good JR, want to see more.
*** - Couple ideas.. I know this is an older video, but i notice it in your *newer* ones too.. You point to things your talking about, but you don't angle the camera to show it to us.. it's always outside the frame.. *PLEASE* try to be more mindful of that... and second.. Your style of video, you say.. okay were gonna do this... then cut.. and then ur back, and whatever it is, is already done... why can't you show the process of the things you are doing? even if longer, then a time lapse.. but show it.. please.. I would have liked to see more of the electronics you did, the type of equipment and what it does.. but again.. you didn't show much of it.. quick glances here & there.. or a.. this is what it is.. then cut.. this is installed.. i know i am not the only person that feels this way... I love the content, but again.. just a couple ideas for you to improve on.. Thanks for the Vids...
hey Jr it’s coming along nicely boy i really looked hard a few years ago at control4 when we were doing are home we did a whole tech rework its funny the people thought i was nuts because i wanted phone ethernet coax an speaker in every room i was like make it happen plus i had crazy cat6 request in our family room because i made custom analog cable adapters to ethernet
so i don’t have to run so much wire to the receiver it works well actually anyway we ended up using Sonos amps and Klipsch CDT-5800-C II In-Ceiling Speaker 8 in all over the house and i think you used a very similar speaker and there really good my only suggestion is ware you can i would also recommend adding the klipsch 12in powered sub and using the low pass filter on the amp an have the sub do the work so you can really rock out and do so for years but not kill the amazing sound its what i found was truly a very nice setup even if you don’t have the volume loud all the time it just made it perfect anyway im excited to see the finished product so best wishes
In my experience, with the HDMI audio extractor, it will create a delay in the audio vs video. If you are watching TV, it will bother you... if you are listening to audio only, you'll be fine.
If I was going to go to all that trouble putting in a billion dollar sound system I would have started with some billion dollar equipment. I would have started and finished with Mcintosh instead of that black plastic stuff you bought.
If you plan on remodeling the bathroom then don’t run new water lines to the old tub and sinks
