    Thanks for this. Somewhere I have Chuck Norris' book on Winning Tournament fighting, one of the first ever written on that, and I think this is in that book. Many thanks again.

      Tom G you’re welcome for this. Really?! That’s rad, where did you get this book?

      @Sensei Ichi. It was 1973, I was 17 yrs old, been doing (Shukokai) karate one year plus, in the UK, and I ordered it from O'Hara publications as advertised in Black Belt magazine. I finally got it (must have been 'sea mail') about 6 months later!! Strangely, out of blue, they sent me a second copy another 6 months later!
      This was definitely before the days of Amazon dot com !!
      I reckon your Dad might have a copy? or know of it maybe.
      I love those tounament techniques from back then, Norris, Lewis, Wallace, Wren, Mullins, Howard Jackson. etc.
      In that book, Norris showed what I think to be the first 'Blitz' technique, explaining that the 'lunge punch' ( oi zuki, same hand same side leg stepping) was impractical for tournaments, and instead threw a rev punch, then opposite side punch (mid step, feet close together) then completed his step with same side hand and leg lunge punch. His idea was that the first 2 punches kept the opponent 'at bay' on the step forward.
      Later Howard Jackson used that and another that was really the first 'California Blitz' used.
      Long response by me eh? Could talk all day bout this stuff.
      (Still awaiting your Dad to reveal those old Tang Soo Do sparring methods). You know, he could earn a fortune (or semi fortune) doing seminars on this stuff tell him 😉

    This is cool. I took lessons from his studio in VA beach when I was a kid in the early 90s. I think I was about 9 or 10. Got hospitalized for a bad asthma attack and I never went back. Wish I would have. I made it to purple belt, I think. Maybe orange. I'm trying to remember the belt order. White, yellow, purple, orange, green, blue, red, and black. I think.

      @SenseiIchi  5 лет назад +1

      barrettokarate right on , I feel that. We have a part 2 to this “fighting form” also, that goes with it and it can be used almost like a fight scene. I tell my students that in this fighting form they should use it to work on their sparring basics(hands up, head movement, foot work etc) like they would on their traditional forms.

    Very cool. Reminds me of a drill we used to do when I was practicing Hapkido, usually as part of the warm up. It was 5 techniques one just flowing right into the next. Then switch and do it on the other side. Different techniques from what you showed here, but seems like a similar concept

    • @SenseiIchi
      @SenseiIchi  5 лет назад

      @Knight2682 Thank you. I actually have plans to do another video which I show both forms combined together. One person does part 1 and the other part 2. It makes the fighting form come alive and it's like a dance.

    Hello Sensei Ichi, I counted four times that the kitten, appeared randomly, throughout your warming up exercise, forme segment 😁. That is amazing, your father trained and also obtained his black belt from Grandmaster Chuck Norris in Tang Soo Do? Aside from Bruce Lee being my number one martial arts idol, hero and inspiration, in my own martial arts journey, Grandmaster Chuck Norris has also been one of the role models, that I look up to!
    How amazing that your father, was the 67th person, to have been awarded his black belt, in the art of Tang Soo Do, by Grandmaster Chuck Norris. Have you actually had a chance to meet the man yourself? If so did he give you any valuable advice? I really like this Tang Soo Do, warm-up routine form. Thank you for sharing it with all of us. Wishing you, your students and your family, the very best. Greetings from Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺, Osu! 👍 ☺ ✌ 👊

      ニュージーランド・スイサイド haha good count !!
      Yes that is one of my fathers greatest achievements and at the time Mr. Norris wasn’t the big movie star he is today . He was big in the martial arts world as a great fighter but not in Hollywood. I never got the chance to meet him or learn from him unfortunately. We are going to a convention in Las Vegas that he will be the key note speaker at , so we’re trying to get a minute to speak with him personally. I’ll for sure film and document that meeting.

      @@SenseiIchi yes please if you get a chance to film something with Grandmaster Chuck Norris, many of us will be happy to see it. I do recall that he inspired Bruce Lee, to learn how to kick high, to the head and so forth, then later on add it to his style of Jeet Kune Do. Then as we all know Bruce Lee would be doing all sorts of kicks in his films.
      I am glad to see that fame did not change the heart and great attitudes, of both men! I am also happy to see that your beloved father, was privileged to be one Grandmaster Chuck Norris' original students. Looking forward to your next video Sensei Ichi. 👍 ☺ ✌ Osu!

    I'm not trying to be rude or disrespectful sir, but I have a question. How are you a Grand master?

    • @SenseiIchi
      @SenseiIchi  5 лет назад +1

      I get asked this question a lot and I appreciate how you prefaced that. I earned the title of Grand master in my style not because I paid for it, or my Daddy gave it to me. I was given this rank because I followed three basic principles: 1. Gave back to the art 2. Gave back to my studio 3. Gave back to myself.

    well, I think Chuck just improvised some movements for the sake of shooting the scene and make it look cool somehow (for the standards of the time) some of the things from that fight scene look a little goofy nowadays but it's still a classic scene and cool to watch today.

    I hate nineties Chuck Norris with Texas Ranger crap, but late seventies to eighties Chuck was kino as fuck. He knew he was a shitty actor and the directors knew too. They kind of 'Keannu Reeves'd" him before that was a thing. He didn't say too much because it would of been terrible and his films were R rated.
