I'm so jealous of Marines today, my bases, and school bases we're old, boring, and the only thing to do was drink. maybe if I was born a little later I would have been able to enjoy some of the new cool stuff you guys got now a days

We had Marines in some of our PME and MOS Schools and while we had to be in PT formation and doing PT they were allowed to do calisthenics on their own in their rooms while we froze our asses on the PT field in February.
1996, Camp Hansen Okinawa, I had an espresso/cappuccino machine and coffee bean grinder in my room. Everyone thought I was eccentric because I liked strong gourmet coffee. Junior marines weren't coffee drinkers back then, and neither were the higher ranks. Nobody had even heard of Starbucks. Even Starbucks never impressed me because I was a Peet's coffee fan. I wonder if there is a Starbucks at Hansen now...
"Junior Marines weren't coffee drinkers back then, and neither were the higher ranks" *TF* ??? I got out in 1988 and Gunnys had a dent in their guts where they rested their coffee cups.
I go to MOS school in 2 days, was just curious to know if I’d have time to hit the gym, Especially since we weren’t allowed to weight lift during boot camp/MCT. Would there be plenty of time to lift???
Hi! youll 100% have time to go to the gym. You are now getting into the normal working hours. usually 0700-1630. maybe 1730 at the very latest depending on your MOS. you'll be encouraged to hit the gym in your off time. welcome to gaining a little bit of normalcy again and congrats Marine!
During MOS school at camp jonhson we had formations morning and night and for the weekend, We also had to march everywhere and we had very little freedom lol b/c of stupid young marines who think they’ve made it. Anyways thats just my opinion since i was at camp johnson for a good 3-4 months it sucked especially for me since i am older dude i don’t tolerate immature ppl that much they get on my nerves. You’re allowed to have anything that doesn’t produce red heat. A normal coffee maker does due to the hot plate. Question about blousing. We're y'all told to blouse your trousers that way or is it a personal presence thing? Everyone used to just make them look puffy/ balloon-y by rolling the trousers a few times before the tuck. This way looks really good too(I like it either way, just wondering if there was a change and when it took place.)
i was taught how to do this in bootcamp to create a cleaner look while doing drill. the purpose of boot blousings are to keep bugs, sand, dirt from getting into your boot, but personally i do them this way because i am in a garrison environment where i dont have to worry about it. If i were in the field they would be looser and lower down
I actually think this way may be more effective against everything getting into your boots. And it looks less likely to pull up so high when you bend or sit since there may be more give.
in bootcamp they teach you to do it that way for looks. the actual way to blouse your boot is low (infantry style) this way is purely for looks, shes in the school house so it makes sense.in the fleet or combat role we have them lower because it prevents ants, spiders and other small insects from getting in.
Brent0285 I’m in garrison so it doesn’t matter. Ofcourse I know the purpose. But when I’m inside all day (yes in the fleet) there’s no purpose to them being low.
Wear your cover inside too. Unless you are on duty your cover is not to be worn. I'll bet everything that your undisciplined body has waltzed into gas stations wearing PT gear as well. What happened to my Marine Corps? Is a question everyone should be asking.
Lmaooooo. It’s far from admin. It’s the d.o.d. Fire Academy. So, fire fighters. I promise you we got plenty of “PT” in dragging 200lb dummies and hose all day. And then we PT’d around 1600 which usually consisted of some sort of extensive run or HITT drills. Come on now, if you’re gonna comment, at least get your facts straight.
You guys live soo much differently. In the 70's just decrepit open bay barracks with open heads, gyms for the most part didn't exist. No enough funding for pretty much everything. Marine Corp didn't seem to care, they had you for the length of your contract. Very few ever reenlisted.
Oh no she didn’t!!! Take off those skivvy shorts that is not a thing after boot camp you don’t need to wear skivvy shorts with your cammies, it stinks!!!
I've never seen a Marine wear a sweatshirt under their blouse. And tucking it in... seems alien to me. When I was in, if you were cold you wore the jacket issued to you from Supply.
haha I used to tuck it in because it felt less bulky under my blouse. just personal preference. We have many different type of cold weather gear as you know. gortex, sweat top, waffle top, ect
