I'm 6 years late but I want to say for anyone who wants to join the marines while in college. I would suggest the national guard instead. The reason for that is in the marine reserves you're pretty limited on where you can go to college. Like you have to go to school near a marine base (there's not much bases in the US). So let's say you want to go to the University of Wyoming, you can't really in the marine reserves because you need to stay close to the base for weekend drills and Wyoming has none of that whereas the national guard you can be anywhere in the country you want.
Honestly the best and clearest explanation of the reserves and how it works with college. And was impressed with the gym edit at the beginning! hard to believe you only have about 300 subscribers.
Ky Mac thank you, that really means a lot. I just started making these videos so hopefully I can reach more people and share more knowledge moving forward!
I was Army now Navy (Seabee) do I still get TA from my prior service? I’m assuming not since I’m reactivated as a sailor but hey a question I wanna figure out lol 😂
Im in my first semester of college rn, I wanted to be a marine since a kid but senior year of high school I realize college was the best path for my future, but now I have that feeling of regret because being a marine has been my dream for years.
Do it man. I am 5 years out and still regret it. The regret never goes away and it only get’s stronger and worse. You start feeling old and too late for that opportunity. Blaming others and sometimes yourself for never going. So my advice. DO IT
As a few others said, definitely go for it if your heart tells you to do so. If you choose the active duty route and do your 4 years, you could go back to college but this time have the GI Bill behind your back
Great content. I'm an 0311 reservist with 3 years in/left and 2 years of college left. I went to boot straight after HS then started college in the spring. Wish I would've found a channel like this 3 years ago! Keep it up! 👍
Although I was never a big fan of being a reservist not because I got beef against them, I always wanted to join active duty but now thinking about it more.. Great video man, I signed up for the marine reserves and am going to college after my training also but I had no idea about the Montgomery GI Bill, definitely something I will ask my recruiter about
This video helps 🥵🥵 Im a fresh marine just graduated MCT . Currently going through my 0231 (intelligence specialist) course in damn neck . I’m trying to get the ball rolling on enrolling in college. An intelligence officer (0202) would be a dream come true. Maybe even attempting to make it into the naval academy in Austin would be awsome . Not an easy feat i know but I feel like I’m more closer to that possibility now than I’ll ever be 💪🏼. This video brings a lot of motivation to the table and I appreciate it . Semper Fi devil 💪🏼
Very inspirational video!! I'm a Navy reservist and it's nice that I can relate to most of the stuff you had to go through. Really motivational stuff. Keep up the good work.
Hey, thank you so much for your video. As someone going through the decision process of whether to pursue Reservist life with college or not, this definitely helped.
First I love your code of work. Yes embrace the suck. I'm currently a student and planning on transferring to 4 year university this fall. So basically I have 2 years left to get my degree. Do you think it's better for me to stop and join active duty or reserve?
Sheldon, I love your channel. I like to share my experience of me being a reservist. I started in the US Army Reserve in 1997 and then went into the California Air National Guard (USAF) in 2005. My MOS is military police and Helicopter crew chief. I have deployed to Iraq in 2003 and Afghanistan in 2014. Other then my deployments and basic training, I have never served on Active duty. I guess the reasons are some of the same you have in your earlier video. Also I was single at the time and looking for a civilian career so I wanted to remain close to home. I have a four college degree now so yes it was challenge to balance my Reserve responsibilities and going to school. It was the same in finding a job and working. I wanted to get into Law enforcement so there was a training academy I have to attend which I could not leave just to attend a two week training event. Well, that is part of the reason I did not reenlist with the Army Reserve because I felt they did not care if I have a training academy that I cannot take time off. Well, all I can say I am into my 20 year career and am close to retiring, I had no regrets in joining the military.
Question being a reserve how much do you get pay. I thought reserve get pay around $400 or $500. But I was watching a video the other day forgot the youtuber name and he mention something payment being under $300 and that's only after 10 deployment something. He mention even if they go to train that 1 or 2 week that don't count their fore due to that reason payments are bad
everything regarding pay is public information you can find online. As a new reservist, per day, you get paid 90-95 dollars. So a two day drill weekend for a new reservist is roughly 180 after taxes
really love your videos bro. im currently active and im about to have two deployments under my belt.. i just cant hack into the high tempo work lifestyle anymore and need time for me to accomplish the things that I want. been looking into the reserves and your videos are really helping make an informed decision on what my next process should be.
Okay so I'm 17 going to graduate it Jan and turn 18 in Jan. When I join the marine reserves will I get paid enough to live in a apartment or will I need another job.
Ik that you have wife/gf that you can split down the middle with bills, but what do you recommend for young adults who need to find a place to stay while they are Reserved and in college

Im joining soon and i get sworn in on monday, they changed the rule I guess because after boot camp my college is paid for (mostly) i have like 1/6 of the total cost to pay for it.
Sheldon Lee alright man thanks! I'll be shipping out to boot camp Aug 7, and I'm going to the reserves and plan on doing all of that. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
I was reading up on the RECP, as commissioning in active duty is my goal - can I go from enlisted reserve to officer active or would I have to finish the remainder of my reserve contract as an officer before going active duty?
grocery.kj78 reservist don't get a post 9/11 G.I Bill they get a Montgomery G.I Bill for 36 months that give you around 300 a month for semester not a lot but it's something. Most of us all apply for financial aid as well and take out student loans like you said
I'm curious about what you ended up doing. I'm currently trying to decide between joining before or after school. I'm also interested in music - if I go to school first I would like to get a degree in music performance.

Most bosses just want what they want and don't care about what else is going on in your life. There's also the type of job you have and the degree you're seeking. If it were easy everybody would be doing it. Choose wisely.

A college football coach wants me to play football however I'm going to join the marines on January after my first season so would athletics and the reserves conflict a lot with each other and would it be a good choice to do both also do you know a lot of athletes that are reservists
Frank Hernandez there aren't many reservists college athletes that I know of, but I heard it's possible. You would need to work with your unit to make up the drill dates when you have games and stuff for college athletics. It's not common, but it's possible.
My father says that if I want to do cyber related fields in the Marines I still have to go through infantry even during the reserves. Is this true? I figured I can get to a cyber field immediately within the Marines as a reservist without being in infantry.
I have a scholarship to run track at my University but the problem is that it’s only a partial scholarship and money is tight for me. The question is can I serve my country in the Marine Corps Reserve 92 day reservist program while getting my college paid for and do you think the program would balance out with college athletics?
if you are joining the usmc reserves to pay for college, choose a different branch. The USMCR does not give you any money for school besides the reserve gi bill which is 360 a month

Hey, thank you so much for your video. As someone going through the decision process of whether to pursue Reservist life with college or not, this definitely helped.
Can the reserve possibly pay 100% tution on college if it’s a cheap college or at least pay most of it
No
Go to airforce reserve if you want full tuition

You dont get TA lmao i told the same thing but i believe we get our states scholarship
