And we didn't get a separate closet for civilian clothes and uniforms. When you said it was a mess in your uniform closet I almost cringed as that would have NEVER been allowed either. I get that "times have changed" but in the discipline respect the Corps has obviously gotten seriously soft. 😞 Good luck in your transition back to civilian life. We had a different discipline, and mindset when I went through PI back in 1980! We had a few Privates,not recruits at that time, that needed extra attention, but we all got through!

been in the navy for 7 years. i was with the seabees as. there were 2 differnt barracks. one that looks a lot like your but only 1 bathroom and no kitchen or watching unit. the rooms are the same. have your own privacy but the bricks at mcas looking nice man. i just got posted and am waiting for my orders to iwakuni. this is a dream come true. ive always wanted to be stationed in Japan since i was a kid. cant wait.

We had Marines in some of our PME and MOS Schools and while we had to be in PT formation and doing PT they were allowed to do calisthenics on their own in their rooms while we froze our asses on the PT field in February.

1st Battalion Delta Co. 1997 Parris Island. My experience was a little bit different than yours. My Black Friday was horrible. The DI's were knocking us around. They took all of our stuff in our foot lockers and dumped it in the middle of the squad bay and poured laundry soap over everything. One recruit wasn't pulling the stuff out of his seabag fast enough so they put a garbage can over him. Another recruit got put into the maintenance closet. It's funny now but it wasn't when it actually happened. One recruit lost his weapon and we got phukking smoked because of that. The DI's made the recruit carry around a plant when we were marching around and was told if anyone ask's you why you are carrying a plant, you tell them because I'm stealing oxygen from my platoon Sir/Ma'am. I got many more stories of bootcamp. Overall, yeah it changed me as well. I made some really good friends that I still keep in contact with to this day.

hey, Im aware this video is outdated, I wanted to ask for knowledge. Im going into the marines in august as air escape/ firefighter and I want to go overseas to asia but I have no clue about how that works. is it possible for a 17yr old PFC to be stationed there if so could you tell me the steps I have to take? Hi go get you some blousing bands do with them stupid ass Velcro shit things unless you want to freaking roll up a fucking extension cord OK you leave your trousers up and around your freaking waist Roger that you take the fucking strings if there’s any on the new trousers out of the bottom because they’re useless with her scissors but you roll your fucking bottom of your pant leg in about half inch increments up to just shy of the top your boot double boot band each side which makes it nice and tight lace your boots all the way up keep the top freaking boot lace whole completely empty wild knowledge and your dog tags in your left boot tie knots in the tip of the freaking boot lace so you can freaking unleased and lease it up nice and quick and tight and I have to worry about it coming undone it’s good to have and remember it’s for combat. You guys live soo much differently. In the 70's just decrepit open bay barracks with open heads, gyms for the most part didn't exist. No enough funding for pretty much everything. Marine Corp didn't seem to care, they had you for the length of your contract. Very few ever reenlisted.

Wear your cover inside too. Unless you are on duty your cover is not to be worn. I'll bet everything that your undisciplined body has waltzed into gas stations wearing PT gear as well. What happened to my Marine Corps? Is a question everyone should be asking.

I was a 7051 at Yuma 96, till I was med retired in July of 99. I was the Hazmat guru, Material Nco etc and hung out at my other office at the P40 building

I loved field day because there was hardly ever anything to do, me and my roomies kept it clean at all times. We didn't have so much crap, just TV and VCR, my espresso maker, PC, boombox.. no huge TV or full-on stereo extravaganza. No BS snacks except for a bag of chips and a bottle of Jim Beam or Tequila and some beer. Stripping and waxing the hallway? Wow, big Fn Deal.

1996, Camp Hansen Okinawa, I had an espresso/cappuccino machine and coffee bean grinder in my room. Everyone thought I was eccentric because I liked strong gourmet coffee. Junior marines weren't coffee drinkers back then, and neither were the higher ranks. Nobody had even heard of Starbucks. Even Starbucks never impressed me because I was a Peet's coffee fan. I wonder if there is a Starbucks at Hansen now...

Wow! The barracks rooms when I was there in 2001 were glorified closets. Shared bathrooms and community laundry. This is a major improvement. Glad to see it.

Wow! This looks great! I lived there about 20 years ago and it was just rooms. Maybe a fridge. It was old back then so I am happy to see they upgraded it. I would have liked to be able to cook in my room. I lived right next to the clinic (I was a corpsman). At least I had my own room.
