I figured this out by standing behind players in the casino and watching and counting for free. It's a hell of a lot easier than losing a shit ton of money while figuring it out. The key is to ask someone at another type of gaming table how many decks are used in the black jack, reason being is that some casinos will use 6 decks some 5 and theres always single deck which is alot easier to keep up with for beginners, but once you know how many decks are being dealt from this video is spot on. Getting caught isnt always a friendly experience though..lol. trust me I know. I have a beard right now and about to try my luck..lol
Is it necessary to count low cards as +1 and high cards as -1? Can it be reversed? For me it would be easier to associate low cards to - and high cards to +, so i would cardcount faster. It wouldn"t make any difference at the end result, so can i do it that way?

a $200 Bank I like to remove my $200 from play at my 1st opportunity &
make a New Limit on my winning hands. IF you ever hit your Limit it's time
to walk away. Knowing this will allow you to win more often and even
walking out at Break Even you've got all the hours of entertainment plus
any Comps you earned as part of the Value. This is also a Win but I never
depend on this for a job as that makes people lose focus & to not have as

I randomly decided to learn how to memorize a deck of cards. It's the same thing, you got to just put in the effort. Not extremely hard, just takes focus and dedication.

@Stevey TeeVee yes, it shuffles every time so counting is impossible, but basic strategy works.
The main difficulty isn't in the counting itself, its in counting numbers while playing a number game perfectly while engaging in small talk for extended periods of time. Also, the consequence of being off on the count are serious losses due to poor betting strategy.

I’ve only been to a casino and played blackjack a couple of times, my thing I found hard is other players because when cards come out I’m like massively turning my head and it’s like so obvious that I’m looking at their cards 😂😂😂

you determine your true count by taking your running count and dividing by the number of decks left in the shoe

I've watched a few of this type of video but this has to be the best I've seen. This just shows me how off the mark the others were. Thank you Colin.
There are other card counting systems. The one they're showing here, I believe, is the first one to be created and it's one of the easiest to learn. Other counting system could be just an Ace 5 count where you just count the aces and 5's, or Ken Uston's advanced point count where 2's and 8's are +1, 3's ,4's ,6's and 7's are +2, 5's are +3, 9's are -1, 10's, J's, Q's and K's are -3 and Aces are 0. Add to that a side count of aces, because the ace holds little value in basic strategy variation, but high value in betting strategy. Each system will give you a different percentage advantage (when you play the perfectly) you have over the house. Knowing and playing Basic Strategy by itself is probably the biggest improvement for a blackjack player, but with basis strategy alone, the odds are still in the casino's favor.

@@israel42hurtado It's not illegal that I know of. It's a matter of Casino discretion in Vegas and it's illegal to bar someone for counting along in Atlantic City. I don't know about other countries. Of course I've been out of the loop with regard to counting conditions for a pretty long time.

I learned Basic strategy and I saw an improvement in my game. I learned how to count and it brought my game to a whole new level. Then the local casino installed automatic card shufflers and that was the end.
Buy an automatic card shuffler and study how those cards are randomly shuffled and ofc have more than 1 deck to count through to see what type of order the cards are placed in
Why would that matter if you are keeping count? The numbers will still show the position?
@@billygraves1769 What he's talking about is an automatic shuffling machine where the dealer puts all the cards back into the machine after each hand that is played. So this means that you're starting with a count of 0 for every hand. You'll never have the advantage.

Look folks.. the reason it’s not illegal is because if you’re smart enough to play a strategy... you can win. Winning isn’t illegal 😎🖖🏾
its not illegal but if you sit at a table and just constantly stare at the cards, dont talk and vary your bet significantly you will be asked to leave. if you want to really card count you need to be able to engage in conversation have a drink and still keep track you will need to also be careful about variance in your bets if you are betting $5 per hand then $100 when the count is in your favour dont be surprised if the floor guy taps you on the shoulder.
You will also find more casions taking measures against it, shuffle machines no discard racks etc You need to find the tables with the basic rules which dont destroy your advantage like rules on splitting, payouts on natural etc.

It’s not illegal because it’s impossible to prove. They can have a strong idea feeling knowledge or even just out right know you’re counting. But they could never truly prove it. You can’t enforce a law you can’t prove in a free country.

I know this is hard and would take months of practice to get good enough at it to get the edge in a casino but its muuuuuuch easier than I thought. I thought it required you to remember every card so you could predict the odds of cards being dealt and bet based on that data. It is kinda that in terms of the betting but far simpler in terms of the counting part of it.

You don’t have to be an actual “card counter” to be able to see trends that will likely help you. Like the video says, you have to play basic Stradegy first. After that, just watch for teens of cards. If you see a couple hands played with say three players and you see very few face cards (ten count), the next hand is favorable to you as they are likely more ten cards in the deck. And all that means is that the dealer is more likely to bust. This is an advantage to you and might be a good time to increase your bet. What I’m saying is you can look for trends as opposed to keeping the running count.
That sounds like gambling and not counting homie. There is a reason you count. So you know. Not just think.

The key is counting cards, staying ahead, but making it appear like you aren't. That is the real skill here. I imagine the key is not "wearing out your welcome". If you try to sit at a blackjack table fleecing them for a few hours I can't imagine they wont notice.

This is a good video, I can still see losing hands though. I can see it could help. The thing is not knowing when the exact deck is 0, because it's 6 decks. You're still taking a guess for each hand! I've played games were I've split splits of splits!🤷
Great video, and you really convinced me card counting is not for geniuses. On the other hand (no pun intended), the ocasional time I go to casino I want to have FUN. Counting cards (and even following strict basic strategy) is work. I will happily pay the 2+ percent loss and hit or pass on hunches, try to follow lucky streaks, relax and have a good time with fellow gamblers and dealers, not stressed by counting or following "orders". And THAT moment when you split aces, get 13 and 15 and the dealers goes over, priceless.
I met Ken Uston at the Mayflower hotel in Washington DC in the late 70s or early 80s. We chatted for a couple of hours. He pulled out a deck of cards and over the next couple of hours he taught me his method, which was a variation on Thorpe's system IIRC.

When you can be a university professor but you decide you wanna teach people this! 😂 Really appreciate the perfect explanation and I already know where this going. Obviously positive true counts means lotta of 10s and aces coming which means better chances for me to get 2 good cards and for the dealer to bust. Negative count means not even my 20 is safe against the dealer's 6. Noiccccce!!!!! And now thinking about it, some casino allow side bets that the more cards the dealer get before busting the more money you'll get paid. Like i think for example a dealer's 6 cards bust pays 1-250 😳Negative counts will be just PERFECT for those!!!!
Hi, I watched your video today.... I practiced card counting for one hour using one deck..... I would purposely stop my counting with 6 cards left in every shuffle..... I then used the math (i.e count) to determine exactly the different combinations of what the remaining 6 cards are..... Result: The math (i.e. count) works like a charm, I was able to successfully predict the last 6 cards on every shuffle...
I played for the first time this past weekend using basic skills and walked away +300 after going in with just $100. Once I master the basic skills for a few more months i'll be sure to use the tips in this video!

Just because you count doesn't mean your gonna win. It's to gain an advantage in the long run, Not each hand.
Positive numbers means the house has the favor. You needed to bet high when the count goes negative.

Only thing I'm concerned about counting is how many shrimp are left in the buffet!
Please don't be misled. This system doesn't work every time you play. I use a running count. Really important you know when to up your bet. It takes patience and there is more to this system. I used to get angry if someone on the table had no idea what they were doing. Now that I have learned the aspect of card counting it doesn't matter who's playing. It takes time and patience. I'm retired and make more money now than I did working. Patience is a virtue. Good luck everyone.
what’s the average running count for you to hop in a say bet $100 instead of $25 on a hand. Say there about 1-2 decks used in a 6 deck boot, with a running total of 5 that’s about +1 per deck (true count) would you bet higher or wait for the true count to be +2 etc…
Outstanding. I’m retired and am tired of the Uber/Lyft scheme, especially with $$5 gallon fuel. And I like games, I like playing, and I’m going to especially like playing even more when I’m done with all of this.
My best friend told me he’d not be able to hang with me anymore if I started counting cards because he believed it cheating. No, see cheating is what the house does when they move your dealer because she’s got 5 guys sitting at the table with all of her chips, and the Boss is watching her getting crushed and he’s insinuating she’s throwing the games via skullduggery to let you win, so he moves her fantastic hands to a new table and he can shake up the shoe.

I'm practising my running count by going through the deck, slowly speeding up as I go on. The faster I go, the more mistakes I tend to make, mostly off by 1 or -1. But I'm gonna keep practising!

@@theklown8820 Again, you practically won't get a number larger than 20-25, and you won't be dividing it by number larger than 5-6 (number of decks). If you need a paper for this, you should really work on your counting, because this is not "elementary school math", this is everyday math. Also, with these numbers it shouldn't take you longer than a split second to do remainders, you just don't have to remember tham. You only need to round the result up or down (he said it in the video, I don't remember which way to round).

For real beginners I would recommend playing the basic strat an may higher your bets if the count is positive. Leave the table if the count ist above - 4... This is how you learn it properly and then go a step forward :)

I've been watching your videos and I am really learning, but I have a doubt. Casinos take preventative measures to prevent people from counting cards, some burn cards at first, etc. Even knowing that I am not keeping a live account, should I play at those types of tables?

Burning cards makes no difference to the count. Just imagine that the burnt cards are put at the bottom of the deck instead and will never come up. What burning does is it prevents the player from gaining an edge if the cards are marked, which is not what counting is about.
But if your casino has a measure that does actually limit card counting (e.g. automatic shufflers, or 6:5 blackjack payouts instead of 3:2) then you likely won't be able to beat it.
You should record your plays in a casino with a camera hidden, it's what we like the most man do it please. Awesome videos and advices but we want more action, real time plays etc, like Croupier
Yeah, I'd like to get a little more in-casino footage, but it's tricky. It takes a couple people and technically we could get arrested for using a device in a casino.

The advantage from blackjack comes in the LONG RUN. Meaning hours on hours of play. You gonna sit there and watch hours on hours of play?? What is that gonna prove to you? Just because another jack ass did it, doesn't mean shit. The greatest blackjack players who are millionaire's don't have "Hidden camera" videos. Why, because they didn't have anything to prove to anyone. The math works, the game can be beaten if you play it 100% perfectly and 100% correct.
Hi, love your videos. So, I'm playing this on a mobile app based game. In it, what the dealer does is it splits the deck of cards.. Like puts a solid plastic in between the deck. And starts the game... As we play, when the plastic is hit he mixes all the cards again and starts over. So
1. how can this counting technique work in this case? And
2. does this happen in real life also?
How do you guys count? Do you count as the cards come out or do you pair them up, and if you pair them up do you count each card individually or as pairs? I'm getting back into counting and trying to see which way works best for me. I'm able to count 6 decks perfectly, but I switch back and forth between my counting technique

Hey great video guys I have a question though, couldn't you make 10 through ace +1 and 2 through 6 -1, isn't that easier for the brain? And then a lower running count would be better Instead of higher?
That's what I've been thinking, lol. Subtracting for high cards and adding for low cards is so confusing.

Quickly adding and subtracting single numbers in the negatives as always kind of confused me when I'm under pressure. That's why I start at the number 10.
I prefer to just play 7 card then load the deck on each shuffle. Been practicing it for almost 10 years and I'm about comfortable to try it at a casino table.

Thanks for the video. I just wish you'd gone into more detail as to why a low running count favors the casino (and vice-versa).
This has always been my question as well. If there are a lot of face cards left the dealers of likely to get one as the player and vice versa so I don't understand the advantage.
A low running count would mean there are a lot of cards between 2-9 which could occasionally be a good thing, but trying to beat the dealer when you have to keep hitting is a bad thing. Low cards are unpredictable basically.
So in 30 years (15 years x 2 players) of being PROFESSIONAL blackjack players, they’ve won $1.5m dollars. That’s only $50k a year. I think I’ll keep my day job.

That's pretty good. Not to mention they get comps constantly if they look like high rollers. Casinos want your money. They get so desperate sometimes they will endlessly send you free hotel stays, free food and beverage, so on and so forth. It's a worthwhile lifestyle.

Hi Colin, 1 question tho, are dealers allowed to put the cards back into the shoe even if the card rack is not full of decks? I have seen this in a casino where they will put the cards back after five or six games.
