What deviation did you use to surrender 14 vs D 10?
15 vs D 10 is at a positive running count. 16 vs D 10 is a surrender (there is a deviation but I’m not sure it’s worth learning).

I like that you're going back to basics rather than explaining more about card counting. It's a nice welcome to those who are new to this channel.
Here's how I explain hitting vs. standing on hard totals to new players:
Fours, fives, and sixes are up cards that most frequently bust, so you never hit anything that can bust. Sevens and higher don't bust often, so you hit up to 16s. Twos and threes are kind of in-between, so you hit on 12s but nothing higher.

Love your video. It reaffirms the strategy that I had developed on my own.
I would like to add a few things:
Never be afraid to leave a table if it turns "cold", or if others join and they play the game in a way that you don't like. Remember, it is your money.
If you like the table and the people you are playing, but the cards turn cold, just lower your bet if you want to keep playing at that table.
When you start playing, set a limit on when you should leave. And that includes winning. I have left the casino in 15 minutes at times if it feels off.

I like to play Blackjack since it has one of the lowest house advantages if played right. Knowing the odds on a hand and being disciplined about how you should play that hand is key to keeping that house advantage to a minimum. Easier said than done. I got several good tips from this video! As far as card counting, it seems most casinos today have strategies to counter that with such things as using machines that constantly re-shuffle the decks for instance.

Collin, nice to see you. Hope Thanksgiving with the family was nice for you. Anyone that is afraid to bust when the right move is to hit, needs to understand this fact. Math doesn’t lie. When dealt a stiff hand it’s always better to go down trying. Blackjack is a game of math and hitting when we may not want to but I agree with you 100% in every example you showed today. Typically when I sat on third base, I usually let the table know. I hit 12’s to dealers 2 & 3. You may want to leave if you can’t stomach that. No one ever did however, they were quick to throw it in my face when I took a bust card. Not so much when I saved the table but I always answered, That’s why the cards have backs on them. This was good info to share today.

I'm self taught, 6:58 so far everything that you brought up I knew what to do! A lot of it is based off experience, and a lot of it is having the discipline not to be greedy! Not being greedy is the hardest part! What really pisses me off is every time I try to find a partner and tell them what we're doing, they don't believe me etc. I was even dating a girl, and she watched add a full table and I played! It was awesome because I told her watch this several times, and she still was too scared to play! I just want somebody to sit next to me and basically just eat cards! When I count I said at the far end I'm the last person to be dealt, this way if anything happens I have time to catch up!
I also use my chips to help keep count, work sample if the couch is eight I have a stack of fire chips and next to them I have a stack of three. Separated from the majority my chips! And sometimes I keep my left hand under the table and I use my fingers! This way if something happens what is splitting cards or doubling down I can maintain my count at the moment, with how many fingers I have on my left hand!

If you hit, you risk busting or hitting a low card (A, 2, or 3) and still can end up losing. I would rather take only one risk and hope the dealer busts.

I just hit my 12. Everyone else got pissed that I ruined the cards, but the guy who split the 10s already killed it.

In New Zealand though, the hard 15/16 rule is different in a way because our casinos don't put a card under their card. They only have one face up card and the next card that comes out of the shoe will be the dealers. So if we hit on a 16 and get a 3, great, but the dealer will have a picture card and that 3 would have been more detrimental to the dealers hand than helpful as the next card will most likely be a picture card and I have just given the dealer a 20 against my 19. We're also not allowed to double down on a soft number in New Zealand. Lame, but that is the rule.

I mean, where I work, we have up to 7 seats, depending on the table you can have multiple seats, 3 to 2 for bj, typical insurance, two sidebets for pairs and "21+3" aka your initial cards and dealers open card to flush straight triples and their combinations/variants. Cash out any time, it's not 1to1, it varies depending on dealers card. Split can be only once, double down can't be on split. And a shoe of 8 decks cut in half marked by cutting card to change shoe. I usually say hit on 2 to 10, 11 always double down except v10, and advise that hitting on 11 is the safer option if players aren't sure (talking about those players that split 10's). Split double 8 or aces, stand from 17 to 20. In terms of 15 I sometimes say that it's a 50/50 to bust on hit, and on 16 it depends, if v2-6stand, v7-9 stand and remind that chash out is an option, v10 just cash out, v ace idk what to say. Actually, if player is on 12 to16 and the dealer has 4or5 to 6, then I advise to stand and hope for dealers bust. And if they hit on 11 to 16 and land 21 then I say good catch, if hit from 17to20 and land on 21 then I say amazing catch, and if hit anywhere from 12 to 19 and land on 20 then i say solid catch. Last thing is that congratulate bj's, but never if the dealer has 10 or if it's an ace and bj for dealer hasn't been checked yet.

Usually it seems kind of ok to buy insurance (regardless of hand dealt) IF the table is full of players and IF none of the players have any face cards. The chances of a dealer having it, it seems to me, is pretty high. But other then that, sure. Yikes doubling on a 12 or 13 to a dealer 2? Also, I can always tell if a blackjack player can play well (seems everyone says they do) by a couple sample hands, chief of which is how they handle their 16's against a dealer 7 (still hit) (or unless your 16 is comprised of 5 or more cards). All not so great players always yelp to STAND, when of course, it is to HIT. So this dude is on point.

Good Job, ...I started playing at the age of 15 in Hawthorne, NV ...I would wear a suit and not smile ...and I got known as a good tipper
...at the age of 18 I won $15,000- at Binions Horseshoe in Las Vegas (went to Hawaii for 3 years) came back ...went to dealers school and dealt for 30 years (craps)
...DUDE, the best game is Mini-Baccarat
...I used to take a person out and teach him to be a pro gambler by the end of 24 hours
He would give me $1,000- and we would go out and play it win or lose for 24 hours
9 out 10 would enjoy the experience, but would be done with wanting to do it professionally (It is too boring) ...I like your style of teaching and will check out your entire site ...by the way, I never used the charts or memory or martingale (double until you win)
The main advantage that the dealer (21) has is acting last ...so I would always sit at 3rd position, alone after 3:00 am on a double deck ...never a single deck or 6 deck shoe
with craps I would clock all the games for rolls over 5 to get in (or go home)
as a business you can't afford to jump in and loose half you bankroll on a lark ...you want some girl throwing the dice for an hour with a red on the layout
My Last Job was at the California in Vegas where they had a GOLDEN ARM TOURNAMENT ...the winner would get $10,000- (always over 60 rolls) ...if you can't make money on that you shouldn't gamble

There are different "Basic Strategy" charts out there, so how do we know which "Basic Strategy (BS)" chart or card to follow? For example, your BS card said that you should double down on a soft 18 when the dealer shows a 2-6. My BS chart (from a book by a well-respected gambling author) says to (i) stay on a dealer's 2, 3, 7, 8, or Ace when I have a soft 18, (ii) double-down on a dealer's 4 - 6, and (iii) hit a 9 or 10. So, again, how do we know which of the different Basic Strategies is the best one to follow? Thank you!

One question I’ve always had is what do you do about 3 card 15s or16s when it comes to basic strategy? Assuming not counting. Let’s say I’m dealt a 5,4 against a dealer 9. Then I get dealt a 7. I got 3 card 16. Still hit or stand? I would always stand because by taking a non-ten as the third card I’ve increased my odds of getting a ten on a second hit.

    • @stevenhelgason8190
      @stevenhelgason8190 Год назад +1

You'd hit the hand. Treat a 3 or more card total the same as a two card total in basic strategy. One exception is when you get a 3 card 9,10, or 11 where strategy might say to double. But you can't double with 3 or more cards so you're stuck with hitting in that situation.
If you count, there are times when you might stand on 16 vs 9 when the count gets elevated...when you've determined a lower ratio of low cards in the deck that would make that hand pat.

    • @zanti4132
      @zanti4132 Год назад

Many years ago, I wrote a computer program to calculate best play for 99.99% of all blackjack hands. (I discarded 0.01% of the hands to make the calculation possible. These would be hands where you are dealt a large number of low cards, e.g. 2, 2, 3, 4, 2, ...., which wouldn't affect the overall odds significantly.) My results for how to play a hard 16 vs a dealer 10 were:
When you have two cards, i. e. 10+6 or 9+7, it is correct to hit, as shown on all the cards giving basic strategy. That's assuming the table does not allow surrenders. Of course, with 8+8 splitting is best.
However, with 3 or more cards, it is usually better to STAND. For example, if you have 7+5+4, it's best to stand. The exceptions are hands with a lot of 6s, 9s, or 10s. Basically:
6s, 9s, and 10s push the odds toward hitting. That's why it's usually best to hit with 10+6 or 9+7, although if you see a high percentage of 6s, 9s, and 10s in the OTHER hands at the table, it may be better to stand anyway.
8s are essentially neutral, not affecting the odds either way.
All other cards push the odds toward standing. That's why the 7+5+4 favors standing - all three cards push the odds in that direction. On the other hand, 2+6+2+6 favors a hit, due to the presence of those 6s.

Excellent explanations on the common mistakes. I wish everyone in my casino can watch this. I simply cannot enjoy blackjack in casino tables because of these exact mistakes mentioned in this video that I did not commit. I always follow the basic strategy perfectly but when I did the opposite of those mistakes, I will get chastised left and right and getting blamed for causing everyone to lose, especially when I hit on 15,16 against 7 to 9 (but I will surrender against 10). And I'm tired of trying to explain the logic behind the correct decisions. Even the dealer would join them against me. Good thing the casino has the electronic table game for blackjack where there is a real person dealing the card with a 'live' cam, and there is a machine for each player to place bet etc. So one dealer can serve countless number of players depending on the number of machines and we cannot see what other players are doing. It's not the same as those online blackjack but it is difficult to show how this is done in words.

@@dannyc5389 Hi Danny, you can peek at neighbouring players screen to see what they did. On the physical table are 3 hands only. On your screen you can choose which hand you want to place bet on and you can place bet in all 3 hands. Each hand has a community box which any drawn card for that hand will be placed there. Eg, a hand has dealt with 10 pair. You choose to stand. But there will always be players splitting the 10s. So on your screen your cards remain stand on 20. But cards will still be dealt into the community box for players who split 10. On that person’s screen, he will see split hands with whatever new cards given to him. So each hand may be played by many players at same time but each player make his own decision without affecting anyone. You can still see what cards have been dealt into the community boxes of the 3 hands.
