"Oh wow, spending all that money to avoid ads? Congrats on jumping through those corporate hoops. Using your iPhone as a remote and connecting Airpods, how innovative. And let's not forget the 'intuitive' navigation. It's like watching a circus performance, but without the popcorn. Meanwhile, over here in the real world, CDs and Blu-ray are like the OG VIPs, delivering top-notch sound, visuals, and actually owning your media. So, you keep your little Apple TV bubble, and I'll enjoy the classics without the monthly subscription fees."

Grabbing the Apple TV 4K was a game changer for me. While LG's WebOS is decent for the most part, I keep running into some random bug where I would randomly lose the sound for no reason at all. None of the diagnostics or troubleshooting that LG recommended helped. The only fix was resetting the TV (LG C2 42inch) back to factory settings but even then the same issue would happen again in a few days. A $1000+ TV shouldn't come with bugs like this and after a few months I got fed up and grabbed the Apple TV 4K. It was quite abit of money but well worth the price of admission. Zero bugs, smooth UI, able to use my AirPods 3 and AirPods Max for private listening and finally syncing with a pair of HomePod 2s through eARC for the best minimalist Dolby Atmos set-up (no noticeable lag even during PS5 and Xbox Series X gameplay). One of Apple's most underrated products IMO.
That said, will you be doing a long term review of the Google Nest Wifi Pro? Thinking of upgrading to one of those to replace my aging Google Wifi mesh set=-up.

Granted, all of my TVs are still good old “dumb” TVs (I’m running my Panasonic plasmas until they die), but even if I were in the market for a brand new TV today, I would either try to find a non-smart TV, or if that isn’t an option, I’d buy the TV with the best reviewed picture quality and disable all the smart features. The data mining and ads make them a nonstarter, and I’ve never seen a built in smart TV OS that is as fluid and feature packed as Apple TV.
All of the points you made are spot on, the high quality of the OS combined with the deep integration with other Apple products make this by far the best way to get content. Even if you don’t use an iPhone it’s still one of the best streaming boxes available.

Having been the IT person for my past job and having to support all of the conference rooms and TVs I have found that Most "Smart" TVs are pretty dumb. They are exactly as you have noted her, but they also really stink at managing peripherals (AppleTVs, Roku Boxes, and other external sources). They would randomly disconnect and be forgotten and the auto-detect and setup for them are horrible. Huge sources like AppleTVs would just never auto-setup with their software. Basic users are hosed by them.
We have a couple AppleTVs at home and we love them. Frictionless and easy to use when you want to do anything on them. Great video.

The one thing to think about using external smart box is that TV processing features might not work on them. For example Sony XR clear or new Alpha 11 LG G4 OLED might only do some of it's processing on internal apps in their Smart OS.
Not sure how much of a thing that is, just that it has been shown at times that things can look different between an AppleTv or Shield vs internal smart TV processing.

Kyle, thank you for creating this fantastic video! It’s refreshing to see someone finally addressing TV OS issues. Personally, I own an LG OLED TV for my entertainment room, a Sony TV for the family room, and a Samsung TV for my master bedroom. I completely agree with your observation that each TV OS can be clunky when it comes to usability. Additionally, streaming directly via the TV isn’t as smooth as using the Apple TV App. The picture quality on Apple TV is noticeably better, especially considering that I still have two Apple TV 4K devices from 2017. I often recommend Apple TV to my friends, and I even gifted one to my friend’s father. He’s extremely satisfied, especially when streaming catch-up TV. For streaming, I rely heavily on my Apple TV and keep other TV OS interfaces clean for live TV viewing. Regarding network connectivity, I’ve meticulously Cat6 cabled my house, with separate cables for the master bedroom and entertainment room. Each point has its own router in a mesh network, and my Apple TV in the entertainment room is connected via an Ethernet cable. I believe this setup significantly enhances the streaming experience.

You forgot one of the best features about having multiple Apple TVs. You can set them up as " One Screen" which means all your Apple TVs apps and order of apps will be synced across all your Apple TVs. Also setting up a new Apple TV couldn't be easier when you use an iPhone and it just sets up mirroring your other or previous Apple TVs. I had 2 Apple TVs fry from a power outage a few months ago, and replacing them was simple and setup was basically automatic, other than having to re-login to some subscriptions. That is a lot easier though with Keychain login and it remembers logins and TV Provider subscriptions for a lot of apps.

I won an Apple TV from a work event in 2018, and haven’t looked back and have added one to my other TV. It’s the only interface used on the TVs (Samsung and LG.) Still going strong years later with the same original units.

Couple of comments. Walmart recently purchase Vizio so we can expect to see ads on those TV’s soon.
One big feature of the Apple TV 4K is the ability to pair to multiple remote devices like headsets. That means more than 1 person can be listening to the TV over their headset - and different model headset - at the same time.

Vizio is a crap brand to start. Hit or miss quality has always kept them from being a flagship company. I repair them and other brands, so I know first hand.

I've had the AppleTV 4k 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation boxes. The hardware has never failed, never lagged, or ever been a hassle to set up. It integrates Apple music and video purchases seamlessly and provides a bit more functionality vs Apple on a Android based OS. When they moved away from iTunes to TV and Music apps, there were some issues accessing my Apple library, but support is just a text or phone call away.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but as I understand it, Apple TV cannot switch HDMI inputs on the TV or view terrestrial television. Therefore, I'll still need to use the TV's native OS for those functions.

I love my Apple TV and even had the very first model. I see no reason to update the hardware regularly as it works just fine. The last upgrade when I bought a 4K TV. The interface is the biggest benefit for me.

I completely agree,I used to watch Netflix on my 2014 Sony Smart tv system (without Android) and it was laggy and not good. I bought a Fire Tv 4K first gen and situation didn’t improve that much, plus it was riddled with ads. I managed to find an Apple TV 4K first gen with A10X chip and it was really a great experience. I said was because I don’t have it anymore. I gave it to my mum and I bought the last gen with A15 chip. It costs a bit but the experience is really great and I cannot live anymore without my Apple TV 4K.

I am very much still a media pc type of person.
(Not that d+ or prime video gives you good quality on a pc)
But mpv is such a powerful media player, add in shaders, upscaleing, and many other advanced settings. (Like dynamic tone mapping for hdr)
Atv is more locked down than even ios and is just a huge hassle for me to work with.
But it does have some very useful features like audio format shifting and a atmos decoder? (Mac can decode atmos to high channel pcm but mabye not atv)
I guess the airpod features are cool if your in the apple ecosystem but I am extremely sensitive to audio latency and Bluetooth dosen't really cut it. (Although you can delay it out and that's mostly fine for media consumption that isn't live.)
The whole home media space is a mess. Expessaly now that audio is expected to be carried over hdmi. Hq audio and vrr at the same time is very expensive to get now. Cec is still mostly a mess. Modern displays all seem to have earc now but a few years ago high end displays only had arc causing more configuration issues. Streaming services 4k distribution only comes in locked ways with weird requirements that causes signal processing to essentially be a no go and most things that work or are the distribution formats are stuck behind licenses. Like hdmi 2.1 essentially being broken on Linux because of the licensing changes from the hdmi standard.

I tried the Apple TV and wanted to like it but it would not turn on/off my Yamaha receiver (or raise or lower volume) whereas my Firestick would. That was the deal breaker for me. I sent back the Apple TV. However, if they get the receiver problem fixed in the next iteration of Apple TV, I would change back to Apple. I am a mac mini user, iphone 15, and series 6 watch user.

My biggest issue with at least LG’s WebOS on the C2, is that if I want to check something while streaming through for example the Netflix app, I go to a HDMI-input and then want to go back to the Netflix app, it has to reload the entire thing. So no multitasking at all basically. It should at least be able to keep one app in memory when you are switching to HDMI-inputs, but nope. So yeah, Apple TV ftw. Not to mention issues with HDR/DV if you have Plex. Infuse on ATV is just flawless here.

Now, non of my smart tvs are connected to the wifi. They all get an apple tv so no adds and extra unwanted channels popup.

I have yet to find a single good reason for TVs to have a dedicated, integrated OS that needs to be maintained by a company, that doesn’t focus on or even care for OS development. Any monitor with appropriate resolution, color range and refresh rate would be a much better option. Then any user can choose and swap the OS and usable apps by adding a device like Apple TV and update that - or replace the device with another one if needs or preferences change.
To me that feels like having to buy a new monitor if you swap a PC’s OS or replace it with a Mac.

I feel like I'm the only one who had a terrible experience with Apple TV. So much so, that I returned it. The software felt slow and sluggish, and it did this very weird thing where, depending on the platform, the frame rate wouldn't sync right, causing horrible stutter. The Match Frame Rate option created awful lag between selecting an episode and it starting. I tried everything-bought the best cable, reset it, changed all parameters-but it was an absolute pain of an experience. Weird...
