I carry edc fixies all the time, no matter where I go. I will take larger ones when I’m in the woods and also have a folder on me most of the time, but ALWAYS have an edc fixie on me. I just find them easier to deal with. Less fiddly and don’t have to worry about a failing lock.

Recently started a small fixed blade EDC, I chose the cold steel Pendleton mini hunter in 3V. This knife is outstanding, I really appreciated the hanging kydex it comes with, as the belt clip type stand too proud on your side.

I really like the mostly neutral grip shape. No finger grooves, no swell at the butt end, relatively even height/width all along. Wish more small knives followed this pattern.

Thanks for the review, Aaron. Given how much you've been enjoying smaller EDC fixed blades, I wonder if you're open to revisiting some blades that are listed as neck knives, but using them as pocket fixed blades instead.

I have been carrying a fixed blade necker in the sub 3" range for about 15 years, but I also do carry a 3+ inch fixed blade on my belt some days, depending where I am going. the three that I tend to carry most are the Tops Scandi trekker, the Rainier Basecamp, and the Esee Izula II. the Tops sheath works well with the home made dangler I made for it, which is a lot more comfortable and acce4sable while I am in my power chair. this Mink does look like a very handy blade, I would need to fashion some sort of leather backing for the sheath, to allow for a dangler addition.

Wild to me that this video was just uploaded. I was just browsing through tiny fixed blades earlier after looking around various waist and leg holsters. What you need to also really focus on for small fixed blade knives are the sheaths, if you're wanting something concealable or discrete. I was looking for something cheap instead and saw a few possible options.

I like how you cover this knife. It reminds me of the Little River Bowie by Kizer which was made out of 1095HC steel. I think I paid $75 for it but I don't remember. That knife had a Bowie style clip point. It would be interesting to compare the two. Thanks.

I always carry a fixed EDC knife but not for utility or any use other than in defense of my handgun. I call it “ my handgun retention tool “ I’m a retired cop ( 32 ) years, cops getting in a fight and people trying to take your gun is a huge problem and concern. I always carried a fixed blade on my weak side, so if I ever thought I was losing a fight and my gun was in danger of someone taking it away from my, they were going to be wearing a knife in their neck.
Now as a civilian, I still carry a fixed blade on my weak side, I carry the medium sized dagger ( forgot the name ) from cold steel but I’m looking to change up.
I’m looking for a knife that I can grab from the sheath in a reverse grip, a knife that will slash upward and stab.
Can you showcase something like that ? BTW I’m cheap, nothing over 100.00 bucks

Nice cutting board. Never thought I'd be one to EDC a fixed, but I've found myself doing it more with the MKC Blackfoot 2.0, magnacut obviously. My wallet stays in my front pocket, so with keys, cell phone, and the wallet....there were times when getting my folder out was a pain (I'd scrape my phone on the folder or squeeze my hand past the knife to get down in the pocket). I didn't think anything about it despite carrying a folder since I was a kid, but now it's much more noticeable after EDCing the MKC.

G'day Aaron, yep I'm carrying smaller fixies for EDC too, especially around the property where there's no weight, concealment or legal issues. For L or bigger size hands, the question then becomes; whether one is cool with a proportionally smaller handle, or a beefier job with a smaller blade. Can look a bit odd but I'm very much of the latter school in use ....... and in that respect, still hard to beat the Gators for the dough IMO.
    Cheers Duke.

I prefer these aspects in a fixed blade edc: Compact (IWB & pocket carry), durability/toughness, and convenience. I don't need a big blade, I usually pair a nice sized folder (usually a slipjoint like a SAK) with it. I want the fixed blade for tough/abusive jobs or super quick and convenient deployment. IMO this one is too weak in the tip and a bit too large. I like the petrified fish bison & CRKT Biwa in 12c27 the most right now. They're quick, tough, and convenient!

I'd agree that the Mink is not a bushcraft knife (I'd prefer scandi grind for that as a personal preference) ... however... these are awesome as daily carry knives.
I actually like the forward jimping as you don't see it as often and I appreciate the extra point my finger is less likely to slip off of when doing controlled detail cuts. Anyone with slick sweaty/oily hands will appreciate how much traction these scales provide as well. I've been using them as work knives and the various cases/bags/containers that I handle at work can sometimes leave my hands slick between sweat and whatever oils are left over from the production/filling process. Haven't felt any loss of traction holding the Minks.
Love love these little fixies. Wanted a blacked out set-up so I ended up getting both versions and doing a scale swap. The blacked out knife I horizontal/cross-draw carry against a black belt and pants which makes it relatively discreet. The OD green and stonewash I took the tec-lock style clip off and added a small loop of paracord to loop around the belt and pocket carry on days I feel like I need my back brace. Both carry options have worked well so far.

I'm actively looking at several smaller fixed blades for EDC. So far nothing has registered. Have a Rat 3 from years ago, but want something more robust. Would like to check out a LT Wright Next-gen, but nobody has them in stock. Meanwhile I'm making an experimental 7" long knife from an old file in an effort to nail down a general design in case I have to go the custom knife route. Thankfully I know a custom knife maker who's work is excellent.

I like this knife quite a bit, and I think the materials are great and pricing is fair. I wish it didn't have that slight trail to the point. Would've preferred a straight clip to bring the point lower and a little more focused. I think it will be real cool if we get other blade shapes on this handle, like and stick with the Mustelidae family and have a Weasel, Ferret, Otter, etc. Would be great to have a wharnie or sheepsfoot, a drop or clip point, a compound ground Tanto.... Cool family of edc fixies real easy!

I guess I’m just cheap , I pack the Small Bucklight , takes a razor edge and holds it pretty well , 420 HC stainless so I’ve got no rust issues , great for smaller food prep jobs , skinning , cleaning fish , general EDC , and light woods craft .
Weighs near nothing , even with the sheath , the sheath is really my only complaint about the little knife , I’m a lefty , and the sheath is a cheap little ballistic nylon right handed sheath , but it works . I think I paid less than 30 bucks for the knife several years ago , one of the few knives I use enough to want three more of em , lol kinda like a Mora why own just one? 😜

I always laugh at fixed blades smaller than my folders. I am also not a fan of three finger grips. That being said, you can't argue with the strength of a fixed blade. For EDC I'll stick with a pocket knife as it is easier to carry with out scaring the sheep. If I can carry a fixed blade, I can carry a full size one. That knife looks like a decent design; however the sheath and mount destroys the compactness of the blade. They didn't think that through.

It's a great little knife and it's my small EDC pocket folder, but I wouldn't say the edge retention is on par with other stainless steels, so I find myself re-sharpening it often.
