small utility, but I love the Walmart bait knife. Under 4 dollars, 7 cr convex grind excellent utility knife. Given several away for car/truck knives. Everyone has loved them. My fixed blade find of the year.
@GBall_Vision yeah these m390 knives and magnacut knives etc sound great from what I read about them but I like inexpensive stuff that still works. My Mora and Tops knives in 1095 seem to hold an edge a long time. I heard one of those survival shows like naked and afraid or maybe it was ALONE used a Diving Sparrow knife. It finally had to be sharpened after like a month of continuous use in filming that season of the show.
The problem with super steels is that they make a cpm3v version of a popular knife, and dont change the geometry accordingly. Geometry will always be more important than steel choice. I agree, classic carbon steels still have their place in the market and super steels are completely overhyped. D2 is probably my favorite steel and it's been around forever. Of course most companies blow it on the heat treat but that's another story.
Good to see some different blades. Just saw the Kailash knives Bowie, awesome budget beast I had never seen before, probably worth checking out. My own favorites are the Joker Nomad 6.5 and the Lionsteel T6.
I picked up an Eafengrow EF130 with DC53 tool steel in early October to put into my camping/survival case that’s in my truck. Haven’t used it yet, but I’m sure it will perform well.
Good list Gball. I’ve been wanting one of those Off Grid Caiman XXL’s for a while. I got the folders in both sizes. Might as well get the trifecta. 😃👍🏼
Ordered the Effie 127 yesterday, came in TODAY!!! VERY impressive knife, especially when you've seen what it can do! If I'd of known about it sooner, I'd of already had it!!! Killer review you did on that knife btw...
The EF150 is calling me, but I will mad dog it until they offer a 30% discount. The Odenwolf machete and Alpha Dog would probably be in my collection at some point. The first Eafengrow I purchased was the EF124, and it impressed the heck out of me! This summer, I debarked about seven walking sticks, and it feels just as sharp. Very good value.
Love the Junglas. I have the orange g10 handles and dark green blade with the skull logo. Thats one knife ill prob never get rid of. Shes a damn beast in the woods!!
Didn't I help introduce Holtzman's Knives to you a while back? I like their products a lot. Great line up on this video. I have many of what you showed, Eafengrow, Off-Grid and Holtzman's. I enjoy your videos.
@@KevinIngram-om5jh I'm not sure... I know the first one I ever got came in a battle box - then I think you did say something about them. Then they reached out to me shortly after that. I definitely like what they bring to the table
Got my own Junglas. The black blade and green micarta scales on mine. Purchased mine second hand unused like new condition, for about half the price of new. I've carried it a couple times on hikes, kinda heavy on the belt.
Nice find, that's a great price! i paid 200 lol. it seems to me to be more of a pack knife/strap on the pack type. i probably wouldnt belt carry it either a whole lot
Thats a great collection! Ive got 4 fixed blade EFs myself and imo they are some of the best dollar for dollar knives in fix blades and folders. My favorite is the EF-146 in Sleipner. Its super thick and can chop like a small hatchet. My second favorite EF is the EF-131 in DC53. Ive tested this knife harder than Ive ever tested a knife and beat on it so hard that it should have broke battoning it through a hickory round my double bit axe could not split. It was cured pig nut hickory with twists and knots throughout the entire round. I only had about an inch to inch and a half of the tip hanging out of it and had to replace a solid green hickory baton about half way through it with a giant one I made that was over 5" on the big end and 2+ feet long. I didnt think Id ever get my knife back, it took forever. When i was done it was still fairly sharp and it took no damage at all. After that Im convinced DC53 is more than a little tough. Probably my favorite big fix blade is my Cold Steel 1917 bowie. Ive got many other big fix blades as well and the EFs are imo every bit as good and cost a lot less.
FITMENT: noun (British) a fixed item of furniture or piece of equipment, especially in a house. (Great vid, good knowledge of knives, great choices on your 2024 knives). Perhaps use “fit” or “fit & finish” - versus “fitment.” Merry Christmas bud.
Ashley...im just gonna make the wild assumption now....i could be wrong...but...you are a good wife to our guy Greg...supporting his knife addiction...you're the best...👊
GBall what do you think about 14C28N steel on a fixed blade, I see you've used your Eafengrow in this steel? I ask you because I have also Kershaw Diskin Hunter in that steel and didn't try it yet, but will.
It is absolutely perfect for a fixed blade. 14c is an ultra tough stainless, one of the toughest it has great corrosion resistance and it's quite easy to get an edge on. I own over 100 knives in 14c
@@jamesflores7362 ah understood, my fault usually people will say the brand and the name of the knife. You have to realize I get a lot of idiots commenting I thought you were telling me that's what should be in the video Protech is awesome 👍🏻 good company to go with.
@@GBall_Vision I feel ya. I'd like to buy myself another one this Christmas but that price tag is something else nowadays. The knives are totally worth it though. The spring broke after ten year (no telling how many openings and closings) I sent it back to them and it was sent back to me in no time, right as rain. I'll always be a huge fan of them!
thats great to hear they also have good CS, i really enjoy protech - im hoping they start doing more manual knives as well because they can really knock it out the park. thanks man!

Folders require much more hands in the videos than a fixed blade. I like table tops, the people who are always putting themselves face forward in their videos make the videos about themselves not the product. That's distracting imo

I don't understand how some people turn their nose up at 1095. It holds a great edge in my opinion.
In the world of super steels and I do love them but there's something about being tested and proven for decades

@jusme8060 You hit the nail on the head!! Geometry determines the functionality of the heat treatment of the steel.
