My first derby I was about 17 and couldnt believe the noise the Mags made. I've seen 100s of games since but that game sticks in my mind for every player wanting it so bad. Every player gave a 10/10 performance. Owers was special that night. Great memories.
I was there 18 and in the Leazes End. I had been at St. James earlier in the season when Marco scored but the atmosphere was nothing like this night. It still stands as one of the greatest nights of my Sunderland supporting life. Pandemonium when the 2nd goal went in. The bus back was like a rave. 70 year old men with walking sticks were dancing in the aisles. A special night.
I enjoyed myself that night I was one of them standing on the barriers after Marco scored. Walking down to the train station singing Wembley was the best winding the thick heeds up. It was as funny as out we could see starting to get to the halfway line & they started to stop running then jogging then walking to a stop cos we were just bouncing singing our heeds off. I wish they got to us cos we were about half a metre below the pitch they'd have been dragged in & pummeled. We knew it, it was hilarious one of the best nights of life. There was 4 & half thousand of us & it was 99% all 18 to 30 year olds who were just taking the piss Happy days.
He was having a good old jump on that manky shirt. 3rd pitch incursion of the game. Should have been a 10 point deduction, would have meant relegation next season😂
Gates and gabbiadini had a brilliant partnership ! The g force we called them , the skill and guile of Eric and the power and pace of gabbiadini were one of the best partnerships I’ve seen at Sunderland , they were perfect for each other. Happy memories.
Ipswich fan also, love Eric Gates. Ugly as sin but my god what skills. Used to frighten me as he ran to the old north stand in the early eighties., you could hear the cries of "esmerelda" from the town fans behind me. (It's a hunchback of Notre Dame reference)
"G force' Fantastic night, 8 pints in the New Derby, bus through, standing squashed and tightly packed mid terrace right behind the goal Leazes End......I remember Gabiadini's winning goal, at the time, watching it as it happened from immediately behind the net, the ball seemed to take ages to find it's way into the far corner of the net.....but you just knew it was going in as it bounced it's way past Burridge cos he was far too close to his goal line..... Yippee!😁
I was there , what a night ! Went to the final at Wembley aswell , what a letdown, we didn’t turn up , we did get promoted because of Swindon doing something dodgy with their accounts. Lol
Ha ha! Love it after the final whistle and the mag runs to the centre circle and takes off his gravy stained NUFC top, throws it on the ground and junps on it! 😆😆😆
I was there!! 8 years old in the Milburn paddock with me dad... Remember him picking me up & we left the ground when the fans started running on the pitch. Scared shitless I was. 😂
All them mags running on the pitch , then a line of plod came on , no horses , and it’s hold me back hold me back while scurrying back into the gallowgate 😂😂😂😂
A multi billionaire needs to buy Sunderland They have the following and if they ever made it back to pL. players would be lining up to sign and bet he payers that brought them back to bat inks attention and relevance. Stadium of light sold out no matter what Easy. You sign 3 stars and produce 3 stars. Make it a 4-5 year process. Like I did in FIFA lol. Top 4 in PL !! Might make champions league !! Lol
that ref was the father of a lad on my carpentry course at college, George courtney from sunderland ! lol. best ever derby win that oh fantastic. and we still went up that season hehe.
I was on a ship with a Newcastle supporter as an AB. After our victory I had to keep a muted response. Any sign that I was celebrating would have been met with violence at the cost of his job. This is the difference between Sunderland and Newcastle supporters. We can accept defeat and move on. They can not.
Saddest I have ever been leaving the ground but if we had won we wouldn't have got Sir John Hall in and the Keegan years wouldn't have happened so thanks for that.
Imagine todays superstars playing on pitches like that! 😅😅 NUFC fan here and all the derby stuff to one side i hope yous keep ahold of Jack Clarke and push on this season and get promoted the prem isnt the same with out the tyne wear and tyne tees derbys
I was there amongst the Newcastle fans in the Milburn stand . Had to pretend to be a toon fan haha. What this footage didn't show at the end was the sad mags pulling down a goalpost. Sour grapes eh,!
@@ArtbyJoeH I didn't see that mate I bet That was scary In there end 😱ive had a few scary moments when we've played the rags I remember me mate was buzzing when he came in school after that result.

taffy were you at wembley in 1985 ? that was out of this world the atmosphere, but that was a night as good as winning the f a cup, when you think we have never been 2nd in the premier league/europe but an amazing run for the 6 on the trot as well. We might play them next season yet.
As a young safc fan and my first Derby this night will be remembered forever. After seeing the 6 in a row which I could only dream of, I think I have seen it all. Derby's are good but not like they were, although where Sunderland are now it might never happen again. Lost interest now

That Aways end looks mint when the second goes in
Sunderland so much more composed than the mags, calm footballing their way to the two goals...
I’m aIpswich fan and loved watching the clips ,great atmosphere and Eric Gates still had it.
