I so much appreciate your sharing of the knowledge and skill to operate these machines! Here in Canada it is very difficult to gain access like this by video because of the fear of too many people knowing and perhaps gaining unauthorized acess to a locomotive! This was always my dream! Thank you so much for such an informative video! Gretings from Calgary!
Nah, the BEST looking Locomotive in Australia was (and STILL IS) the WAGR/Westrail L Class Locomotive. The Victorian C class is just a carbon copy of the L power wise, just a different carbody design.....😁
This is a brilliant video. The driver was a star he was highly informative. I would like to see more like this one. You should be satisfied with your work, Thank.
Wow, I worked at Rhodes station as a JSA back in the late 1960's, and it didn't look anything like that, especially all the buildings to the west side which used to all be CSR land for a chemical plant. Awesome video, so many questions answered thanks. Would love it if state rail put a third seat in the cab and sold tickets to allow enthusiasts to tag along, money possibly to charities !!!
A great video. A good insight into running this wheat train. Shows the skill and the knowledge the driver has to run the these heavy freight trains. Why did this train run through Sydney to Newcastle. Instead of running by Dunedoo to Newcastle.
fantastic video, love my trains so much the freight trains are the best....the driver was explaining a lot of the meaning of the signals but can we have some more videos explaining all of them ...keep it up guys .
Saw one brand new at Wodonga sitting on the siding near the road around 1976 can’t be sure.. I know she was more powerful than the X Class My brother knew what it was.
You should check out ruclips.net/user/cuboz1 ,they're a really great channel that has all sorts of cab view and behind the scenes content of the Sydney system
Question ....After a full shift commanding a train do the engineers feel weird driving a vehicle afterwords? Having to steer the vehicle between the painted lines and use their feet to stop and go unlike a train
Nice video! Do Australian trains use the Westinghouse style airbrake? Is there a legal limit on how engineers can be driving? In the USA, there is a 12 hour limit.
Most of the braking systems on newer locomotives down here are Wabtec brake control stands now, but there's a few older Locomotives here that STILL use the Westinghouse brake stands. And I think they're only allowed up to 12hrs maximum on the footplate here. Hope that answers your question...
No need to apologise mate, i'm no train buff either and this was very enjoyable to watch. And the sound of those engines, amazing. I think most men offered their dream ride it would be a Ferrari, or a Lambo or a Porsche. Not me, i'd take this train ride over any car any day. The sounds are amazing. And i'm also wondering what the power must feel like through the cab. I think i'd do that job for free!
Fact the driver was off railroad Australia season 2 Warren and Bernie Baker went to Port Augusta to pick up ex coal wagons with 5 old locos B61 S302 S317 GM27 and GM10
Adding to what Graeme said, it would simply be too inefficient to constantly swap out diesel and electric locos. Sydney's electric network is only so big when compared to the size of the rural/interstate network.
@@Spookieham That's not quite true. What about the intercity lines from Sydney to Kiama, Lithgow and Newcastle and from Brisbane to Rockhampton? And what about the numerous electrified freight-only lines from various Queensland ports to the Central Queensland coalfields?
Unfortunately you spoke too soon, Rio Tinto in Western Australia are almost 100% automated and they are running 35,000 tonne iron ore trains. Sad, really.
Exported out of Newcastle, as Sydney is less of a working harbour now. The 168 yo NSW railways are still a Sydney centric spiders web. I descend from a railway worker that built the first line from Redfern to Granville
As a train passenger on Sydneys northern line. Freight trains cause delays to commuter passenger services. The state government needs to further separate freight traffic from commuter passenger traffic by building an extra two sets of tracks from Strathfield to Hornsby and Strathfield to Blacktown. So many bottle necks on the Sydney trains network that can be fixed.
It's probably the hardest job to get into these days. I did all the training only to be knocked back over 20 times I think being a white male in my 40s has allot to do with it Even get blocked by Sydney Trains as a driver
I love the engineer's accent, the sound of the engines, and the scenery. What more could you ask for?
The Locomotive driver is Australian, operating the Loco's in NSW....
A million dollars
The amount of knowledge the Drivers require to operate these machines is amazing.👏👏👏

One of th ebetter train ride videos I have watched. It was good with the driver taking the time to explain signals and engine gauges.
The best looking loco Australia has ever produced :)
Na,the best looking is H class mine is the city of Shepparton H642
Nah, the BEST looking Locomotive in Australia was (and STILL IS) the WAGR/Westrail L Class Locomotive.
The Victorian C class is just a carbon copy of the L power wise, just a different carbody design.....😁
Ah bullshit the best looking is the series 1 VR X-Class
@@Railwayman01 I could tell you what the WAGR L class are a carbon copy of but I’ll leave it up to you to find out for yourself
Especially in the original VR livery, shame the windscreen shape was changed.

A top video and a great explanation as he operated the train throughout the journey.
Well done- Driver knows the Road well! We had similar Locos over here in the West - L Class Locos- also brilliant solid work horses.
The L's came into service before the C class loco....😊
Still a very good heavy train locomotive despite 40 plus years of age..much changed in cabs since the VR days !
What a brilliant production. At forty years of age those "C" s are legendary. A great insight into railroad operations. Thankyou
Love this video, would enjoy seeing more like this.
Informative and professional, thank you all for the fine effort.
Great to have a cab ride from my desk and hear the engine powering along!
Thanks for the cabride, very informative. Great video work and handling.👌👍🇦🇺
A great video, great locos and a comprehensive commentary from a very knowledgeable locomotive engineer
G'day good video and that must be the cleanest interior of the lead diesel I've seen for a while Regards John
Absolutely awesome! Make 100 more like this 😂😂
Amazing video. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Very informative. Thank you
Thank you for that information. There are so many things that come into play, in running those heavy freight trains.🙂
Grouse video..
Love the C class. Awesome Locomative.👌
That’s sick I come from gilgandra and I still have mates out there and they are farmers so I wouldn’t doubt that he has there grain on that train

At that time. The tonnage and axle weights would've been too high for troy Junction on to Werris creek
Love Diesal Loc, was in Sydney in the 80'S .Safe drive MATE ❤️Love Australia ❤️🙏
Very enjoyable, watched it 3 or 4 times.
Great commentary and footage, I've subscribed on the strength of this video.
Anthony
Great sounds from the Loco ...
I have been really enjoying the cab ride videos you posted this week Thanks!
First good ozzie cab ride I've seen in youTube. Cheers from Perth. That grade looks pretty hard to climb up - really obvious through the stations
Agree with you there Graeme, I've been watching for a while now and this is the most informative so far. Well done to all involved, excellent work.
Its Awesome and Happy to see a Cab Ride!
Happy to b ur New Subscriber from Tamil Nadu, India.

Morning Guys. Absolutely fantastic videos on those old girls 🤣 Your video was so informative 👍🏻 Keep safe and thanks. Stevie 😎🏴
Thanks so much. I loved this.
Awesome video. Very interesting!
very good ride along.thanks for sharing
Great vid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That sweeeeeeeet EMD racket. Love it.
Amazing. When I was in Sydney I did see the trains using the local Subway Tunnels to transport goods I was like wow.
Hopping off the cab ride on the C's and straight into the cab of GM37 for my next ride...TOOT TOOT
Notching up is so awesome in the C's.
Saw one brand new at Wodonga sitting on the siding near the road around 1976 can’t be sure.. I know she was more powerful than the X Class
My brother knew what it was.
How often do you have to hit that switch ? Great cab ride never tire of that sweet sound.
60-90s on a C class.
Gotta love those C class...my fav..
Great shots and content
I'd been wondering for several years what that blinking yellow signal light just north of Meadowbank signified. Now I know!!
Great video, would love to see the same done on a "V Set" while they are still around
On all Sydney passenger trains i’d say, but especially the v set

Gotta love Victorian locomotives.
Yeah, but made in Sydney

Fact the driver was off railroad Australia season 2 Warren and Bernie Baker went to Port Augusta to pick up ex coal wagons with 5 old locos B61 S302 S317 GM27 and GM10
keep them coming us old blokes can now drive a train in our armchairs thank you
Cab ride was great, specially the driver's comments. But why run diesels in this fully electrified section?
Only suburban passenger areas are electrified in Australia. Country and interstate tracks are not.
The overhead is 1500VDC, which limits the maximum power to around 6000 HP or about the same as two diesel locos.
Do you have t5o maintain the speed limit? I realise you should not go over the limit, but what if you are under the limit?
You want hear a great type of loco notching up,listen to a A CLASS, B CLASS, S CLASS, T CLASS, Y, P, X, CLASSES IN VIC THAT IS .
this video is why trains can never be automated !!

aged like a milk but its better not it to be auto
The sound like a jet engine 😍
Tons or tonnes?
But where was the grain ultimately going to?
Exported out of Newcastle, as Sydney is less of a working harbour now. The 168 yo NSW railways are still a Sydney centric spiders web.
I descend from a railway worker that built the first line from Redfern to Granville
Nice work son.....:)
Why dont Australia run a rear or mid engine like US do ?
Some railway operators down here do, some don't. Most of the time, the second unit is at the rear of the train.
15:09 - Just to scare the schoolkids!
