They were true soldiers!!

The axis powers realized that airborne ops were rarely needed and potentially very costly in every operation. Which is why the fallschirmjager were mostly used as armored and roving infantry. Airborne troopers had a very short shelf life. Think about it. It’s really a very small niche. Very rarely useful is a airdrop of soldiers that pack light and can fight for 2 weeks tops
It was quantity that defeated the Germans, not quality. Sheer weight of numbers. Eisenhower and his staff had a meeting early in the Normandy campaign and the conclusion of it was that if the Brits and Yanks couldn't use overwhelming air power due to bad weather etc then in a straight fight the Germans would always win. Bear in mind that Germany could only supply very limited air assets to give top cover to their ground forces at that stage of the war. The German soldier was better trained, better equipped and had better combat leaders.
Germany created a whole new doctrine of war and equipment and technology that are still used today And Prussian military style training marching and parades are still used today

my grandfather was a master sergeant in the paratroopers. Was also on the Eastern Front, West Front and later came into British captivity.
