From 1933 till 1945 A.H. and the Nazi regime drafted 18.1 million men for military service (thats 42% of the total male population at that time) of which most died on the Eastern Front ~ 5.3 million.
The regular German soldiers, known as the Wehrmacht, were primarily focused on military operations. However, it's essential to recognize that the Wehrmacht was complicit in multiple war crimes and atrocities.
The Holocaust, specifically, was largely carried out by specialized Nazi units like the SS (Schutzstaffel), and other government and paramilitary organizations. However, the Wehrmacht did operate under the Nazi regime, and in some cases, soldiers were involved in activities that supported the regime's genocidal policies, either directly or indirectly.

My great-grandfather served at Eastern Front and got captured by the Soviets in 1944 after he got heavily injured by a mortar shrapnell. He returned to Western-Germany in 1955. I don't remember alot about him but once when I was like 3 years old, he smiled at me in a way that words cannot describe - he still was a very loving and generous person - no matter what he and every human on earth must have gone through at that time. I miss him...

Mein Großvater kämpfte im wk2 in der Marine. Eines Tages nahmen sie russische Gefangene. Mein Opa gab einem jungen russischen Soldaten die ganze Zeit auf dem Schiff Essen, damit er nicht verhungerte. Ein Monat später wurde ihr Schiff von Russen versenkt und sie wurden gefangen genommen! Der junge Soldat reskierte daraufhin sein Leben und half meinen Opa zu fliehen!
Leider starb er als ich vier war, somit habe ich nur eine Erinnerung von ihm 😢 ( Die Geschichte hat mir mein Vater erzählt)
@@RaphaelSeling danke für deinen Kommentar, das ist eine rührende Geschichte, leider hört man viel zu wenige von diesen! Dein Großvater war mit Sicherheit ein aufrichtiger und ehrenvoller Mensch, denn die meisten Gefangenen deutschen Soldaten hatten sehr schlechte Aussichten auf eine erfolgreiche Rückkehr in die Heimat... alles Gute!! 🙏
