I would highly recommend BUTTERPAT, to an experienced cast iron user, because they would be able to appreciate the nicer experience…. Also to those just starting out with cast iron, because with their smooth surfaces, and heft, they are more forgiving and easier to learn on. Also to those who don’t have the room or desire, to collect, and just want 1 set or one skillet only, you just can’t go wrong with BUTTERPAT, there’s a reason, they are known as the Rolls Royce’s of cast iron cookware….
My first BP comes tomorrow. Looking forward to trying it out. Agreed about them being pricey, but any hand finished product is always at a premium. My next skillet will most likely be a Joan sometime next year.
In my opinion, they are alllllll beautiful irons. Which ever, whom ever can afford is a hit no miss. These are gorgeous. Get well Luis. Best to da family & to stay well.
I just scored a Wagner #9 long griddle from work today. Do you ever do restorations for people? I’m in the central sierra’s and wanted to get it back in working order.
I do restorations but I have not done any for others. I do have a great friend who lives in the Sierras he does restorations and also sells vintage cast iron. Cast Iron Mike. His handle and main seller page is on Instagram.
Dear Luis, I've been contemplating the purchase of a carbon steel skillet and cast iron pan. After watching your video reviews on the Smithey farmhouse deep skillet and Santa Barbara Forge carbon steel pans, I'm torn between the two. If cost isn't a concern, could you share your recommendation? If you had to choose just one, which would it be? I appreciate your insights in advance! I look forward for your reply.
What is your favorite cast iron skillet? I heard amazing things about Marquette Castings and was very interested to try, but their skillets are discontinued so I'm looking for alternatives!
Marquette is definitely a great cast iron skillet but yes you are correct they are discontinued. I would say Butter Pat is definitely a great alternative. Very similar in texture and form. I highly recommend Lancaster Cast Iron, Field Company, Finex Cookware, Smithey Ironware, Borough Furnace, Fredericksburg Cast Iron, and Stargazer. But if those are too expensive for your budget then I recommend Lodge Cast Iron and their BlackLock Series. Also a great choice would be Victoria Cookware.
Luis , good evening , I have a question ,, I have a number 5 skillet it has the 3 notches on the heat ring. Like Lodge did , but it's under side of the handle has the BSR. ridge and the tear drop on the handle, so do you have any idea what it is and possible the years it was made ? THANK you Frank from montana......
Very awesome!!!! Thank you for sharing!!! Have a great one!!!!!
Absolutely beautiful Mr.Luis!

@@luisj.castironcooking I don’t do instagram anymore. I don’t seem to be able to find him when I search instagram cast iron Mike
Overall, between smithey, FGB, butter pat, etc, what has been your favorite of the high price/high quality cast iron skillets?
Field Company at the moment since Butter Pat Industries isn’t available anymore or for a brief time. They have been bought by Yeti

I do believe you have a Lodge but perhaps an early 3 notch. I have a number 7 with a very pronounced ridge on the handle as well.
@@luisj.castironcooking thank you Luis. Keep up the good video's my friend , Love watching..
