“The Bad Guys,” “Entergalactic,” “Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio,” “Rise of the TMNT: The Movie,” and “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” are my favorite animated movies of 2022.
Puss in Boots 2 and Del Toro's Pinocchio adaptation are my favourite movies of 2022. The latter might be the best adaptation of them all. Yes, even better than Disney's oversimplified cartoon. Also that transition at 1:29:30 from the Dogfish engulfing Pinocchio to the end credits was actually kinda neat!
I mean, I guess the nightmare fuel part of the movie makes sense when you consider the fact that one of the people behind ROTTMNT was Jhonen Vasquez, the creator of Invader Zim
Great to see Phil Tippett back in action after all these years. I recall he did the stop motion for that huge alien in George Lucas’ Howard The Duck. Phil Tippett’s animation gives me Harryhausen vibes.
I'm hoping to see what your thoughts on The Last Wish are, as despite that being within the last week of the year, I do really think it puts some of the Top 10 a run for their spot.
@Jambareeqi I literally cannot recommend enough Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. You will not regret it! The show was immensely screwed over by Nickelodeon and it's a miracle we even got a movie at all. Though, officially, the show is "paused", not cancelled, so fingers crossed it comes back someday! 🤞
Turning Red is my favorite movie of the year. It was soooo relatable to me. My parents were never helicopterish but of course every family has some kind of drama. The way they characterized middle-school girls was so accurate to my own experience, and it was hilarious. I love how the solution at the end was to value your family traditions and what you want too. I am so excited to see what more the director comes up with.
Kid Danger: *wearing his mighty pup movie outfit* have you EVEN read the wimpy kid books?! That movie is based of the second book of wimpy kid books! Puss in boots the last wish I love!
I thought Strange World was okay, and you described it perfectly. I felt like it was a "by the books" type of movie, where it did what it was suppose to do. If there was one thing to criticize it for, it was the annoying arguments between Searcher and Jaegar. I liked it better than Lightyear, but not as much as The Bad Guys. But I will admit, I did like the comic book opening and closing, which was a sci-fi spin on the Disney trope of the opening and closing of the book, often found in films from Walt's era.
5:48 we did get something similar to that in the video game Ty the Tasmanian tiger with how the main villain an evil Cassowary named Boss Cass wants to wipe out all mammals
I’m so glad you gave love to Entergalactic! I’d personally call it the best animated film of 2022…if we’re excluding Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, as that’s an easy winner! We need more people to talk about the Netflix film, ‘cause it’s heavily underrated!
I’ve never seen “mama duke” but the way you so calmly said “he craps in the trophy” had me laughing. Also everything you said bat strange world works for me other than the fact that I absolutely LOVE the world building, I adore abstract alien landscapes and steampunk bustling cities, strange world has them both and makes them both amazingly. So in terms of world building, this film is way up on my list of animated movies of all time
Since you're in the UK Jambareeqi have you seen Tadeo Jones 3? I got to see it when it was released here in the US on a limited theater run. The theme of respect, recognition and contribution really got to me and it made me love the film even more because of how real it felt for me and I really love all the characters in this especially the main character Tad who threw the first and second movie to third one got a really good character arc. I recommend seeing the first two films before the third one I did and it made me love the third film so much.
I really want to watch Entergalactic now. I never even heard of it. But the animation does look a LOT like Spiderverse, which is another movie I adore. A more adult but also more simple and down to earth story in a similar creative art style seems really enjoyable!

I've only seen a few of them. "Turning Red" and "Teen Titans Go! & DC Super Hero Girls: Mayhem in the Multiverse" are my favourites. I did get to watch a lot of older films I haven't watched before. Some of them being Nickelodeon films, and I had a good time with "Jimmy Neutron; Boy Genius" and "The Wild Thornberrys Movie".
I don't think it's fair to say Lightyear is a 'bury your gays' trope 1 because Buzz's sexuality is never mentioned in the movie because he has no love intrest. 2 because the death had to happen when Buzz was going forward in time so much. The little seen of them showed Buzz's mindset of the mission while ignoring the life happening on the planet. Lightyear could have been way better if the whole movie was like the first act.
I know this movie technically came out in 2021 over at Japan but it was released in the US in 2022. I had the same problems with Bubble. The animation is beautiful and the action is cool BUT the roance was rushed. Hibiki and Uta spends two days together then he loves her during their rescue mission? He talked one time about his sickness to her, they eat together. That's it! Their bound was not that strong to me plus Uta was annoying saying parts of the mermaid story over and over 🤨😐Hibiki's friends were not very developped so i didn't cared about them. The only i liked was the scientist guy with his metal leg; mostly because he's voiced by Miyano Mamoru (Light Yagami from Death note, Tokiya Ichinose from Uta no prince-sama, Yogi from Karneval.) I was happy that one of my favorite seiyuu was in the movie and looked for others that i liked. I was more interrested in that little game than the romance!
4:03 yes that is a problem I have with Diary of Wimpy kid in general the parents especially since they favour the youngest child Manny and favouring one of your kids is not good parenting in fact that's why Manny is a spoilt brat who pretty much gets away with everything even when he does something wrong

His inclusion in the movie means so much to me as another trans boy, and the movie that he’s in is also just an incredibly fun time. I wish that Wendell and Wild got more love, it deserves it

29:45 I know it's not specifically said in the film but Hibiki being noise sensitive does make me wonder if he was supposed to have some form of autism and if so I think he's a good representation of an autism coded character

Probably because the trope is a case of reading too deep into media. The makers of "Lightyear" simply thought having some kind of representation is a step forward. And really, it's not "in your face". Alisha's death is designed to push Buzz's story forward, and any criticism of the story decision being potentially problematic feels like a premature assumption. Really though, why are people using TV Tropes as a source? It contradicts itself a lot and reeks of pretentious nonsense.
@@fictionalmediabully9830 Couldn’t Buzz’s story be pushed forward without a LGBTQ+ character dying as part of it? Also representation can be good when done right. But it can also be done poorly and do more harm than good.
@@jesusrox4u The LGBTQ+ character clearly means a lot to Buzz, and they share a genuine friendship. There's enough hear to make the representation satisfactory, but it's admittedly not fleshed out. The only issue I had is it's redundant. The moments we see Alisha's family are short-lived, and it comes off as a bad business decision. Why risk your film getting banned in several countries all for the sake of a few short-lived scenes?
Well to be fair people of the LGBTQ community do still die like any straight person does and they are not killing those people off because that person is gay the way how Lightyear did it was more so meant to showcase Buzz losing his best friend who he has been friends with since day 1 of the academy so it's more so the fact that he lost a friend then anything

@@fictionalmediabully9830 Couldn’t Buzz’s story be pushed forward without a LGBTQ+ character dying as part of it? Also representation can be good when done right. But it can also be done poorly and do more harm than good.

The LGBTQ+ character clearly means a lot to Buzz, and they share a genuine friendship.
@@fictionalmediabully9830 It’s not Disney’s fault those countries are bigoted.

Turning red is the worst film in my opinion
Im glad im not the only one who thinks that drifting home was a bit too long
Why is Turning Red so high on this list and why isnt Puss in Boots 2 The Last Wish on this list
