  • Just what it says - car is a 69 Z, i just blueprinted the 302 to 12.5:1, with the 1st Design OffRoad, stock heads, crossram manifold, dual 600dp holleys, muncie (auto gear wide ratio M22 gear set) 4.56 gears, Gardner Chambered Exhaust. - Transistorized Ignition. This car runs like a million bucks, idles perfectly, and is very easy/fun to drive, contrary to what most people read. It is a little rough on gas, requiring a mixture of premium and 110, however since I don't drive it all that much, i'm running strait Turbo Blue. Everything on this car other than the baby seat base in the back is circa 69 Factory GM. The only non factory item is the #10 SFI flywheel.

    I seen a build of one of these engines in a magazine years ago. I believe it was 501 horsepower at 8000 plus rpm. No where near stock but holy cow. That had to be a blast to drive.

    Love the sound of chambered exhaust. I had chambered mufflers on my 80 Camaro. They were aftermarket, but had about the same tone as yours. The bigger compression really gives those mufflers a good pop as well!!

    • @AaronKaleniecki
      @AaronKaleniecki  3 года назад +1

      Yes, there are alot of things I could do to improve the car - but I prefer vintage GM stuff - for good or bad - and I"ve had cars with dumps after the muffler, and personally I hate the resonating sound in the car without tailpipes. Cheers

    Now THAT sounds better than most 69 Z-28's I have heard here. That rake/shovel leaning just outside the garage door make me nervous with real muscle pounding pavement nearby. That car is soooo bad-ass!

    I have read forums and seen some of these videos. If you are same person, well done! I am building a 302 also, only now I wish I would have done it with 12 to 1. Oh well hopefully my 11 to 1 will be pretty nasty. And with an Isky Z-20 cam.

    • @AaronKaleniecki
      @AaronKaleniecki  9 лет назад

      +574jmann The Z20 cam is a shorter duration - it'll be PLENTY happy with 11 to 1 - and ridiculously snappy.

    • @574jmann
      @574jmann 9 лет назад +1

      +Aaron Kaleniecki Oops, I meant to type Z-25, NOT Z-20. But I do very much appreciate the period correct engine specs and factory off road cam you chose. True old school cool--the whole point of it all :) and the video captures the sound pretty well.

    Aaron could you tell me how you bumped the compression up to the 12:5:1. Also does it sound a lot louder to you now that the compression is higher? I'm starting to build a 302 for my z28 and was hoping to get some help from you on the build.

    • @AaronKaleniecki
      @AaronKaleniecki  10 лет назад +3

      well - this engine was blueprinted with some custom pistons - that hit 11.2 or so with the felpro blue head gaskets - these are about .030 thicker than the shim gaskets that GM used - so I basically cut the heads. to clean them up about .015, and then used the shim head gaskets , and after doing all the measurements - the compression came up to about 12.4-12.6 depending on which cylinder I measured (based on .5cc from chamber to chamber)

    My old neighbor told me when he saw my 70 Z28 that he worked on the 69 Z/28 at his job at GM as a salaried employee when they came out. I love the 69 RS Z/28 but would not want the loud chambered exhaust. Believe it or not you create less HP with the chambered exhaust. In ‘74 I bought and drove a 1968 Z/28 and a friend of mine is the current owner, British Green with white stripes and black interior. my1970z28.com/COPO/images/68_LF.jpg

    • @AaronKaleniecki
      @AaronKaleniecki  8 лет назад +2

      +nick sims the OE 30-30 cam stops making HP at 6500 - but they spin easily to 7200
      with this 140 cam - and the stronger springs - they will pull to 7200 and spin up to 7500 but i never like keeping up there - these motors are worth too much money :D

    • @nickthevanman9011
      @nickthevanman9011 8 лет назад +1

      Are 302dz engines still 2 bolt or 4 bolt mains? Im just curious how they are put together. Id like to build another small block for my trans am and i want some rpms for fun as dumb as that sounds. Trying to figure out how to make one live

    • @AaronKaleniecki
      @AaronKaleniecki  8 лет назад +2

      +nick sims 69 was 4 bolt - 67-8 2bolt - 67 small journal, 68-9 large journal -
      the trick i think is a forged bottom end, light pistons, full floating rods - i think a forged 350 crank in a 400 block is the best bet these days for revs/serious power :D

    • @lesbratton
