    I agree with some comments..x.77 cars had no chrome on welds and the cross ram was not on this car..it had a 780 Holley carb and 4bbl intake original..car would have been better with original stuff..no jl8 brakes either...it sounds good but no headers on stock z cars..too many non.stock items.r

    anyone notice the tach shows a 6000 redline, when actual
    Z-28 tachs have a 6500 redline ? both of mine were 6500.
    i think this one might be a very well done clone.

      @@Micah-kbluezr as i re-watch the video, i can see its not a clone. mine did not have the cross ram manifold, or the rear disc brakes. they did have headers that i installed myself. i can't explain the discrepancy in tachs, both of mine had the yellow warning at 6200, and the redline at 6500 to 8000. all 69 Z-28's had the 8K tach, it was part of the Z-28 option package. the salesman is incorrect.

    The twin 4-barrel Holly's were just right for a cross-ram Z28. Keep in mind that the stock version of those crabs had vacuum secondaries, so most of the time you were actually running on 4 barrels... not 8. The secondaries on both carbs didn't open up unless you were really revving the motor. Hey, it's not a family car. It's a gas guzzling monster and man, what a sweet ride. This comment iscoming from a former owner of a '69 Z. Hottest car that I've ever owned, bar none.

    Wow! Talk about a chance viewing leading to a lengthy and enjoyable trip down memory lane. I was a freshman in college (GMI in Flint, Michigan) and one of my fraternity brothers had a father who was some sort of big shot at GM (they were somewhat common at GMI back then) and he had scored a 1967 Z28 in a company car resale. It was yellow with black stripes, a black vinyl interior, and a black vinyl top. I don't remember the carburetor, but it had headers. a fancy cowl intake cold air system, and a 2.20 first gear M22 Rockcrusher.
    If it wasn't running, there was little to give indication as to its potential besides the stripes. There was no markings indicating the engine size and it didn't even have the little crest over the Camaro script on the front quarters that the cars with the basic 230 6 cylinder had. But there was no question when it was running. The cam had to be pretty radical, because the idle was rough and lumpy and high. And it was loud.
    I enjoyed reading all the comments about people who had encountered or owned Z28s. I remember that this car was a real SOB to get off the line. The combination of the 2.20 low gear, the radical cam, and the high volume carburetor made it hard to launch, and even when you were successful, the results (initially through low gear) were less than stellar. It also didn't help that it almost took both legs to depress the clutch and the clutch was "grabby."
    ...But once you managed to launch and get the RPMs up, the car transformed into something mythical and magical. And (for it's time) it had a precision in handling that was unlike anything I'd ever experienced before. Winding trough small twisty back roads in Southeast Michigan in the fall was memorable now, and remains memorable even more than fifty years later.
    So, what happened to this car? Damned if I know. But this fraternity brother apparently had a "silver spoon in his mouth" and it may have proved to be a disadvantage; because he never really "dug in" and washed out of GMI shortly after entering for grades. ...One of those cases where "being hungry" compensated for perhaps even being "the sharpest knife in the box" or "the guy with the coolest car." All I remember is the draft breathing down my neck with the promise of a scholarship to "Saigon U." if I didn't perform. I didn't need any additional inspiration or motivation for this short term goal.

    The oil fill tube is for a 1968 Z-28, not a 1969, which had the oil fill hole in the left valve cover, as this card does as well. Two oil fill holes on the same engine? Something seems amiss here.

    @Boredout454 Very wrong. The 1969 Camaro Indy Pace Car came stock with the cowl hood. I purchased my second 1969 Z/28 in August '69 and it came to the dealership with the cowl hood [as an option ]. I'm sure you remember the 1970 Camaro went with a complete body change and the 302cuin engine was replaced with the 350cuin. There is no way a '69 cowl hood would fit a '70 Camaro.

    I have had two friends who had these Z-28's brand new in 1969. The x-ram and the headers were not installed by the factory or the dealers. When the cars were delivered the manifold and headers were in the trunk. Not one of these cars had headers installed from the factory.

    • @howabouthetruth2157
      @howabouthetruth2157 3 года назад +2

      I know it's been over 3 yrs ago since you posted, but everyone already knows that the cross ram ( it's NOT an "x ram" ) intake & headers not installed at the factory & came in the trunk only on special order. For crying out loud, in this video the man said QUOTE: "These units were NEVER installed at the factory, they were special ordered dealer installed options only". And YES, the dealers WOULD install them, but of course it was cheaper to install them yourself. But don't sit there & make the bullshit claim as if "NO dealer would install these parts, they simply refused". ANY dealer that you bought this car from, special ordered with the cross ram, duel 4 bbl's, and headers would install them IF you were willing to pay for it. I had friends that owned these cars too, bought brand new. One had them dealer installed.......the other installed them himself at his buddy's shop, with his help.

    I'm having trouble getting a chevy intake or chevy exhaust manifolds that bolt up. Did Pontiac. Buick or Cadillac or Corvette have something that bolts up? I pulled these heads from a Camaro, but there was no intake manifold, I found out that big block headers don't even come close to bolting up the intake I can only describe as a cross ram. The intake manifold looks like a cross ram, but won't bolt up to chevy small block. I've put a chevy distributor and carburetors on it. That's all that fits. Oh, chevy oil pans fit, but chevy valve covers dont fit. Will caddy covers fut?
