This was super helpful! I just ordered my revel starter kit and I’ve been searching for step by step videos and this has been the most informative and easy to follow. Would love to see your tips and tricks and removal process!
Omg!!! It worked!!! Fun fact- I ordered dipping powder in 2017 and waited 9 months for the product. Only to be seriously frustrated and disappointed with the what I thought was the product. Huge let down. I almost threw everything away but I still had hope. I just watched your video and flowed all of the instructions and it worked!!! My nails look perfect!!! I’m beyond shocked!!! No bubbles, no horrible weird marks. I even got the top coat to work!!! So grateful!!
Oh my goodness. I was about to give up on dip powder. And then I found your video. It is the best tutorial ever. My nails look amazing! Thank you so much.
Not sure if you read these and maybe someone has already mentioned it...I have also always struggled with any top coat that came with dip powder liquids. Until I saw a step in a tutorial video that never seems to be included in the instructions that come with the sets. After you have applied initial coat of activator and shaped your nails, buff them so that they have a very smooth surface, then RE- apply activator to your shaped nails, then 2 coats of the top coat after activator dries. Works beautifully, dries quickly. Just as glossy as gel top coat and seems harder. This has worked with multiple different liquid sets. Re applying the activator after shaping is the secret step to get the top coat to work.
@@maggierose7689 cool! Just thought I’d share because it was ground breaking information for me when I learned it! Lol. And your video was very helpful for a beginner by the way and your nails looked great. I’m about a year and a half into doing my own nails. SOOO many tutorials watched 🙂. It’s definitely a process.
Thanks for such a thorough video! As a dip newbie, I especially appreciated the detailed information about the buffing and filing process. No other video I’ve found has described the purpose and process so clearly!
This was a great video! I failed miserably with my last attempt at dip nails although I can do the gel method, I really would like to do dip with short tips.. I’m encouraged to give it a try again... FYI the style of your video helps so much in actually seeing what your doing as your talking about it. Thanks!
Genius tip to use a gel top coat! Definitely the most helpful video I've seen on this. Simple nail art (like ombre or gradient glitters) tutorials would be awesome.
Hi from Columbus, Ohio. I am new to this . My daughter got me started. There are so many pretty colors, it’s addictive . I am a retired nurse so use to washing my hands a lot but even more now . Polish last me only a day or two tops . My daughter did my nails with dip and omg it lasted two and a half weeks . Might have lasted longer but I ordered a kit online and now ready for a new color. You explained everything so well .Thanks for your video .
Excellent video! You've captured all the fundamentals and then some. I've been doing dip powder for a bit over a year, maybe a bit longer, and learned quite a bit from your video. The tip on how to build your apex is golden!! This tip saves a lot of filing to remove the excess dip powder from around the cuticle and the sides. Thanks so much for doing this video. :-)
I was strongly considering transitioning to dip but I hadn’t seen anyone do it the way i’d like my nails to look until I saw your video. love the way they don’t look bulking and bumpy. Great job love. Headed to Amazon right now lol
I'm just about the order my first dip kit and am trying to decide between Revel and Sparkle and Co. Thanks for the awesome tutorial!!! My nails are a bit flat, peel, are thin, weak and I even take Biotin and other vitamins and eat well and exercise - I think it's genetic, my mom has crappy nails, too. I'm excited to do dip at home because I've gotten them at a salon and LOVED them except they used a drill to file my nail surfaces and made my super thin nails even thinner. I know my dip nails won't last as long without roughing my natural up, but I'm hoping I can do that very minimally, thus saving my natural nails from excess damage. Thank you!!
I just did my second time doing dip nails following this and the ambre nail video. My nails look so much better this time than last time. I didn’t get the apex quite right but I’ll work on it more next time. The gel nail top coat is sooooo much better than the top coat in the kits. I have a couple of questions: 1) how do you keep the bottles of base and top coat from sealing shut? 2) how do you get the mix of base and powder out of the brush if it gets in it?
Mrs Press so glad it worked for you!! The answer to your first question is actually in my “tips and tricks” video (too long to type out) and for your second question some people use a fresh (obviously) pantie liner or paper towel to wipe off this brush. 😉 hope that helps!
I really wish I would've watched your video before I did my nails last night! They came out horrible!! I am just too lazy to take them off and start again! LOL. This was really helpful, thanks!

Danielle Moore Alaska! Daaaaaang that’s so cool!! And thank you so much for the compliment! I have some other nail tutorials on my channel but is there anything you would like me to focus on for a specific video? (Trying to get more inspiration 😉)
@@maggierose7689 yes!! Marbling if you can swing it or easy designs for a beginner?? I had my nails done for years and am doing them myself these days via dip nail. Simple flowers or fail proof French tips would be great as well. Xoxo
Danielle Moore is you go to my “nails” playlist you will find a French mani tutorial along with some other more simple nail design tutorials. But I definitely will have to do a marble technique one soon!!
Just wanted to say hi! I'm a new subscriber and newbie to DIY dip nails and I have really enjoyed your channel so far. Thanks for all the helpful tips and tricks! Take care! ❤️
Just a helpful hint with revels top coat. I was so frustrated because It kept going matte and streaky. I finally gave up after re-filing my nails for the 3rd time. I started to put cuticle oil on my hands because after 3 sessions of filing my fingers they were sore. Anyways I didn’t grab the oil I thought I had grabbed. I had grabbed the activator . Well my nails started to get shiny and were instantly dry! So I suggest you do all the steps Maggie said and at the end add a layer of activator then a layer of there top coat. Do the top coat in a thin quick layer only do 2-3 swipes across the nail. Then do another layer of the top coat . Do this one as you would do regular nail polish you can take your time. Wait 2 minutes and then finish with a layer of the activator. Your nails should look nice and shiny and be dry and ready for those dishes Maggie talked about!
A lot of other at home dip companies actually say to do this. I started with dipwell and now I use revel too and the dipwell instructions say to do this so you are right on point. Also come companies say alcohol as well before the top coat 😊
I am so thankful I came across your video because this top coat is an absolute game changer!! Revel's top coat was really starting to bother my lungs after I would use it. Plus it was a pain to use and very sticky if you applied too much. This one by Pretty Diva is so easy and looks amazing when cured! Definitely worth it to buy it, plus the LED cure lamp. I will be using this method from now on! I did however accidently get some of this top coat on my skin and cuticle area. I wiped with a toothpick but hopefully it doesn't cause lifting as it grows out?? Thanks again for the video!
Thank you for your very helpful video and for being so natural!!! Love how it's not so fully edited. And your baby at the end, lol too funny. Definitely convinced to order these products so I can do my own dip nails. Nail salons are open but charge so much! 50-65 dollars for dip! Ugh
I don't like Revel's top coat either! It has the consistency of rubber cement... It's gummy. Also your nails are pretty much my ideal shape and length. Love the sparkly pale pink too!
If you tap the description box on my video (should be a small triangle down button) all of my links will come up and they are towards the top of the list. If you are still having trouble shoot me a message over on my Instagram @maggierosevlogs and I can help you out! 😉
This video was great and is helping calm nerves about doing my first dip at home. Curious on how long this takes you from start to finish (not including any soaking off old dip)?
Maggie Rose OPI’s Powder Perfection is amazing. When I was able to go to the salon that was the only dip system I used. So, I purchased my own to try out during these times. 🙂🙂
The base is most def resin (glue), not clear nail polish (which is lacquer). The “sealer” step is a resin accelerator used to cure the resin all the way through. The polymers in the powder react with the resin (not in the way it reacts with monomer, but def different to how it would react if you tried to use an actual clear nail polish as the base) & dry to a hard, regular acrylic/monomer-like nail, and then the sealer accelerates the drying process & makes double-sure everything is dry & cured all the way through. It also kind of hardens the resin & polymers a little bit. But yea, I just wanted to mention, for those who may not already know, that the dip nail “base” is NOT clear nail polish, it is most def 100% a resin (glue) - the same is true for every other dip nail kit out there, no matter the brand, the bases are resin & the powders are very finely milled pigmented polymers & other things I can’t remember the name of off hand. They’re much like regular or ‘monomer’ acrylic powders, only milled to a much MUCH finer powder. 😋
Ashley Falcon yep. You are correct. But when I say “clear coat” I am not referring to the first step of the process, I am referring to the actual clear color of the dip powder. 😉
Great video! Can gel topcoat be used over regular lacquers for increased durability? I didn't know you could combine dip and gel like this. I'm intrigued by the dip kits but in most pictures the results look too thick
Awesome video! I am definitely interested in doing my nails at home. Though, I struggle painting my nails SOO there would definitely be a big learning curve for me! 😅
Can a regular top coat be used vs. the top coat from the kit (which is so sticky!) vs. a gel that needs to be light cured (which I don’t want to use). Great video. Thanks!
I tried a regular top coat and it works a little better than the top coat that comes in the kit but still doesn’t make them “shiny”. I 100% recommend a gel top coat.
Thanks Maggie! I’ll try with a regular top coat next time. I’m trying to avoid the gel because I don’t want to use the uv light. Do you have a recommendation for a regular top coat that dries pretty fast and hard?
@@jodiharrison2333 I do not use enough regular top coats to recommend one in particular but the one I normally use is sally hansen I believe, and it works pretty well.
Hey there! This video was SUPER helpful to me as I have never done duo powered and just ordered my Revel kit I have a question about the apex steps. Can you verify these are the steps? So, you use step number 1 liquid in a strip halfway down your nail and dip. Then you go out a little bit wider than that strip and dip. And lastly you do the whole nail but not all the way to the cuticle and dip. So just the 3 steps before moving on?
I would add a 4th dip to get closer to the cuticle and then add additional dips if the color isn’t as dark or as opaque as you want it. Sorry I didn’t respond sooner! I just saw this comment!
This was helpful. I ordered the revel kit with a bunch of colors. I have used it a couple times and still can’t seem to get it figured out and smooth like I want it. I think I use your process the next time I do my nails. I noticed you didn’t use the activator twice like it states. Is that just a personal preference? Also you can use any type of clear polish on top, like the gelish brand that doesn’t need a UV/led light. I’ll keep on trying to get that perfect mani because I came close to it today 😄
So sorry I didn’t respond to this sooner!! But I don’t do activator again because that is only necessary if you use revels top coat. You can totally use another top coat! I just prefer the gel polish I have linked because I feel like it’s the shiniest 😉
Jessica McCann thank you!! Those links are in my description of the video. I have the light labeled at “LED light” and the top coat is the link right under that 😉
I got lucky because my mother in law is a nail tech but right now where kind of on bad terms so now I’m learning to do my own, i kind of know what I’m doing but it looks easier said than done 😅
When you say you finish off step 1 with the "clear" (since you're using glitter) are you referring to the build powder or do you have to look for a clear color powder?
Super helpful video! I just got a starter kit and failed miserably my first time using the instructions on the box. I’m going to try again following your instructions. Any tips on taking them off?
Ooo yes!! Send me a pic once they are done! My Instagram is @maggierosevlogs, you can message me there! And I actually did a whole video on Nail removal so if you go to my “nails” playlist you can find it in there 😉
Just be sure you are making your nails super dry before you start. That’s the best thing to be sure to do. Other than that I would just make sure you buffing your nails really well before starting too
One thing is to use a Dawn dish soap and water to wash your hands and nails, as regular hand soaps can contain oils. Dawn won’t have those, they actually cut oils, which is why they used it to clean marine animals whenever they get caught up in an oil spill in the ocean. Make sure you thoroughly clean your natural nail and nail bed, all the way to your cuticles with a isopropyl alcohol rub to take the oils off, then use dehydrator and start dipping asap. Make sure you have all your tools ready to go, so the oils don’t redistribute back again. Some people have more of an oily nail bed, there are dips that are specifically made for those individuals I read, but not sure who makes them, sorry!
Kate to the party 😬 I just got a nailboo dip nail kit and the top coat sucks! I thought the top coat would be the easiest part...um, no! Does using the gel nail top coat make a difference in how long dip nails last, or how difficult they are to remove?
Mrs Press I ALWAYS use my gel topcoat and it doesn’t make a difference as far as the actual dip powder “lifting” and doesn’t really make it harder to get off. Just mainly makes it look nicer 😉
@@maggierose7689 it seems like no matter what I do, I get congestion and cold-like symptoms. It is such a bummer, because I love how nice my nails are when I do them.

Great video! Can gel topcoat be used over regular lacquers for increased durability? I didn't know you could combine dip and gel like this. I'm intrigued by the dip kits but in most pictures the results look too thick
Sure! I have done that before and it works well!
This video helped me more than the profesional vid ever did 😅 ty!
Haha well thank you!
Excellent video, totally loved it
MaRiam Felici thank you so much!
Awesome video! I am definitely interested in doing my nails at home. Though, I struggle painting my nails SOO there would definitely be a big learning curve for me! 😅
Momma Bear 21 haha! Then you will have the best “first dip compared to now” pics 🤣 no time like quarantine to try it out though! Haha
Right!? Now to convince my husband 🙈 I don't get my nails done at all right now 😭
Can a regular top coat be used vs. the top coat from the kit (which is so sticky!) vs. a gel that needs to be light cured (which I don’t want to use).
Your nails look great! So pretty 👍
Thank you!
You make it look so easy. I guess it takes lots of practice. Because my nails look worse than when I started. 🤣 Thanks for the wonderful video.
Haha it definitely takes practice but don’t quit!! Each time you do your nails you that much closer to the perfect mani!!
Your nails look great! I love the gel top coat you used, I can’t wait to try it!
Thank you! Yes I LOVE it!
Super helpful video! Thank you!
Thank you!
I am so so so much more excited for my stuff to arrive!! Did the starter 4 pack kit come with clear or should I go order that also??
Amanda Sherwood it may have depended on the kit you bought, but I think you may have to order it on the side
Thank you so much Maggie! 🙏🏻💕 I really needed this! 😅
Maily.Snow you’re welcome!
Just found your channel yesterday! Love it! :)
Thank you!
This is so helpful!!
Thank you!
Thank you so much! Super helpful!!
Dee Troche you’re welcome!!
Thank you for this video
I’m new to dip. You are very sweet and your videos are very helpful :)
Awe thank you so much!
Very informative! Thanks...
Sure!
Great tutorial - thanks so much!
Ilov Efroz Entreats thank you!
This is a fantastic video!! Best one I have found, thank you!! I cannot find your link for the uv lamp and gel top coat...?
Jessica McCann thank you!! Those links are in my description of the video. I have the light labeled at “LED light” and the top coat is the link right under that 😉
You give awesome tips thank you!
Sara Da Silva thanks!
You r an awesome teacher. Using duel form and polish gel. How much polish gel in the duel form.
Stay safe
Thank you! I’ve actually never used duel forms before.
I got lucky because my mother in law is a nail tech but right now where kind of on bad terms so now I’m learning to do my own, i kind of know what I’m doing but it looks easier said than done 😅
Gina Parnell awe I hope you’re relationship gets better and then you guys can do your nails together 🥰
Can u show us the way u do ur natural nail shape
When you say you finish off step 1 with the "clear" (since you're using glitter) are you referring to the build powder or do you have to look for a clear color powder?
Super helpful video! I just got a starter kit and failed miserably my first time using the instructions on the box. I’m going to try again following your instructions. Any tips on taking them off?
Ooo yes!! Send me a pic once they are done! My Instagram is @maggierosevlogs, you can message me there! And I actually did a whole video on Nail removal so if you go to my “nails” playlist you can find it in there 😉
This really helped me figure it out! Mine started lifting after a week. Is there something I can do to keep this from happening so soon?
Extremely helpful thank you 😊
You’re welcome! Thanks!
Love this video!
Tammy Marugg thank you!! 🥰
😍😍ur so cute! Love this video thanks for sharing
You’re so sweet 🥰 thank you!
Maggie Rose thank you!
I love your tutorials. Have you had any issues with getting the "dip flu" after doing your nails?
I have heard of people who have but it has never happened to me
@@maggierose7689 That's awesome! Do you wear any kind of mask while doing your nails!?
@@ellewoods8836 nope!
@@maggierose7689 it seems like no matter what I do, I get congestion and cold-like symptoms. It is such a bummer, because I love how nice my nails are when I do them.
@@ellewoods8836 I know some people have used masks and glasses and that helps them 🤷🏼♀️
Thanks for this tutorial, bless your heart,🤗
Awe thank you! 🥰
