    I don't quite understand how a brilliant channel like this gets less traction than others. It appears everything is similar but the quality of this one is clearly higher. Shame on the RUclips gods.

    Well that was a terrifying episode. I was waiting for that control knob to roll off the bench, bounce once and go splash. You hit it with the file at one point and it rolled. Then after a cut, it was gone! What a relief to see you screw it back on, I could breath again. Maybe I'm just a jeopardy geek, but DON'T DO IT AGAIN!.....

    God I love this episode of your ongoing MV Geordi work. Your skill at so clearly articulating what you’re doing and WHY you’re doing it is just brilliant. And I love the fact that your girlfriend is a part of the show now, though I do see a hint of slight disbelief on her face sometimes, like when you were geeking out on the ferry. But she’s so cute when she does that it’s very charming.
    Folks, we Patreon supporters get to see Peter’s episodes a day early, on Saturdays. You may want to become a Patreon supporter to help with Peter’s many expenses and you can see his videos a day early too!

    In the bad old days (up into the 1960's) an upper station was rare and usually minimalist in smaller (less than 50') boats. The few designs were basically what you have right now, without any instruments, especially if the boat was a Northwest US or Canadian design. The plastic boat revolution brought in the "flying bridge" with all the accoutrements, center of gravity changes, etc. Years ago, there was a Canadian gentlemen, a proponent of wood boats maintaining their original design, who would inspect prospective members of his club. Additions such as an upper steering station with engine controls not in the original plans would disqualify the boat. He went so far as to deny prospective members that had radar, loran, radar reflectors, or marine TV antennas sprouting from the cabin top or flag mast. Needles to say someone in his group finally took away his clipboard and pencil before he chased away anymore prospective members. Love your show Peter! 😆

    Peter, on the topic of the upper helm. I think you just need to get a functional helm and get Geordie back to cruising and enjoying the boat. I think the art of the upper helm will come to you later.

  • @billdonald9773
    @billdonald9773 2 месяца назад

    I have never seen you struggle with something as much as that upper helm but you did come up with an idea. You do what ever you are comfortable with. It will all work out in the end. By the way, I like the new girl friend she is very pretty and as great of a person you are I think you are out classed. Enjoy your life I’ll be watching

    I have to admit to being a real GEEK for a very (very) brief moment at the beginning of the episode where you said the instruments would be intergrated with the windshield. I had this short lived mind view of the instrument readouts projected onto the windshield as in fighter planes and automobiles way to expensive for me. Then reality kicked in.

    What a perfect word of the week. I was just thinking as I watched this episode that I hope Andrea is going to survive being with one of the biggest wooden boat geeks on YT and not go stark, raving mad! Hang in there Andrea!!! I also wanted to mention that the scene with Frieda in it caught me off guard because she looked like a mini Geordie.

    With all the "Safety" precautions...
    Why do I keep seeing angle grinders around the world on YT without the 12:42 disc guard.. that are on UK grinders.
    Which...
    think about it...
    ... a disc spinning at high speed that is designed to cut through metal fast..
    if it touches you will do very permanent injuries.
    btw I would have fibreglassed the deck under the helm and the swoops before fitting, especially when it's over the bed. 🐈

    Let me start by saying I have no problem with the fact you’re going with the box for your steering column. But I was thinking, maybe something more like a parallelogram, sloping back similar to the angle of the windshield, mounting the axle of the steering mechanism, parallel to the top and bottom, and then cutting off that point closest to you making it a flat surface behind the wheel, or with a small angle up so that you’re instrument panel could come down over the top of it at an angle. It just would’ve been a different option than the arching or swooping column you were starting to design I would’ve just made straight lines to match the center post of the windshield but still be a box just one with an angle back. It would have given you a little more clearance for your fingers between the column and the wheel and for your shifter. But as I said, it’s just a thought I know you’ve already gone with the box and have it bolted in or at least screwed in and glued so it’ll work. I’m a big fan of it’s yours, so do it the way you want to.😀
