This is Seth. The guy who thinks mispronunciation is a funny thing to do on purpose who continuously loses games he can win because he doesn’t read the cards. The dude is a troll
So much negativity stemming from this comment. His comparison makes sense. Lhurgoyf is 4 mana, not 2. Let the dude make a reasonable comparison without nitpicky attitudes.
Because of the ability to self mill, maybe Urborg Lhurgoyf succeeds where other similar creatures have failed? Probably not but first game did show much promises.
I'm the opponent at 19:43 - Thanks so much for an awesome match, Seth! I really appreciate everything you do for the Magic community and all us janky brewers out here!
I feel like Slogurk would be a beautifull addition to the deck. Value from milling lands, and getting more lands in hand once it dies, maybe some channel lands even.
I love Slogurk. I am currently testing out a Sultai Slogurk Channel Land deck that pairs nicely with that new frog beast from DMU. I slotted 2 guyfs in but mostly for the mill. It’s been performing pretty well! I just need more wild cards to fix my mana base :(
Seth, I just wanted to leyt you know I've been playing Urborg Lhurgoyf ever since you posted this video, and I'm still not bored with this deck. You always give me such fun things to play! It's DOA to graveyard hate, so I play Bo1 with it. I just love playing a 5/6 for three mana. Or activating Tyvar's -2 and putting a 10/11 on the battlefield. Here's what my list looks like after 10 months of tuning and going strictly Golgari (I occasionally get to tap a Taxidermist for the blue kicker). Thanks again! 4 Forest 4 Deathbonnet Sprout 3 Old Stickfingers 4 Undead Butler 4 Reclusive Taxidermist 4 Blanchwood Prowler 4 Deathcap Glade 2 Boseiju, Who Endures 2 Takenuma, Abandoned Mire 4 Tenacious Underdog 3 Writhing Necromass 4 Urborg Lhurgoyf 4 Swamp 4 Llanowar Wastes 2 Gaea's Gift 2 Tyvar, Jubilant Brawler 4 Overwhelming Remorse 2 Gnawing Vermin
Ooh i used to play something similar before rotation. Really good cards in the deck is Ghoulcaller harvest together with Diregraf rebirth and Dreadhound to win the game. Dreadhound is so good.
I am running a version with the new 4 mana angel that brings 3 mana cmc stuff back with Goyf that looks similar but more aggresive than your version, definately need to give white color a try.
If Goyf does become a legit standard deck, the back side of deathbonnet sprout eating graveyards was a great include seth. Both because it works with the plan and act sort of like a goyf delver but it would also be killer in a mirror match. Growing by eating the yard of the opponent and making their own goyfs weaker.
I added titania and it is really good with the self mill strategy. I also found out that 'no one left behind' is really nice for getting back titania or a goyf efficiently. This makes me want to run the dragon-engine because it also is good to cheat out amd refill the hand. It also works as a makeshift artifact/enchantment removal with the werewolf.
Seth can pull of the most perfect plays every single turn and then also say "why am I Ajani?" On like the 6th game with him as his profile. God I love it
Is it crazy to think Dawnhart Mentor would be good in this deck? So many situations where being able to reactively give Goyf or Stickfingers trample would really change the threat level of his board.
Yeah, it seems like you should be able to select what kickers you want or don't want all in one menu instead if confirming one kicker then moving to another menu to either confirm the 1 kicker or use the other kicker. Weird ui.
@@poetro2567 It does have that ETB effect if you kick it, that makes sure you get some value even if it does get pushed the as soon as it enters the battlefield.
At first I was like "but go blank will just wreck this deck" then I remembered strixhaven is out. There's still a lot of graveyard hate in standard though.
Someone played this against me and I was in love, but I couldn't find anything by searching "standard self mill" then found this on accident. I shouldve known Seth made it!
I built what I could of this, I've got like 85 percent of it and it's so much fun. I played standard last at the end of the Kahn's of Tarkir arc and used the last season of arena to build up some stuff but this is a fun deck to play
I messed up that game for sure, but it was because we can't take the channel land with Shigeki because it's legendary. My plan was to take it and win on the spot, but that got messed up by the fact that the play wasn't technically legal ;)
Given the lack of other utility lands, it might be right to just double up on the legendaries As for monoblack control, i think creatures are too big for it to really shine on its own? The removal is just infernal grasp and soul exchange, then you're at cut down, and without ramp meathook isn't going to cut it. I could be wrong of course, but i think it needs another set or two
The Black March shines especially since you can exile cards to increase life gain and then you can also use sheoldred and cut if the profits to have a pseudo sphinx revelation 😅
I used to love my Goyf/Savage Twister group game deck way back in the Mirage days. It'd piss everyone at the table off. It sucked in every other format at the time though.
wondering if there's a way to run this as a slightly faster and more consistent Golgari build. think between Sprout, Takenuma, Stickfingers and Butler it would have enough self-mill that kicking Goyf only once (or not at all) would still leave it pretty massive most of the time. play a full playset of Necromass and Taxidermist for further beatdown. just need to figure out what to do for interaction. a playset of Liliana might be enough?
At 25:30 I am pretty certain you could have blocked with Shigeki and then bounced him and your opponent would have gained no life. Wouldn't have helped in the end, but was definitely the optimal play.
Is there a difference between the toughness values of "1+*" vs "*+1"? I just think it is odd that there are two ways to represent the same information.
Cut down definitely seems like much more of a sideboard card than anything. There was a lot of hype when it first was teased but I think it was mostly because people were looking at what it hits instead of what it misses. It could definitely see play as a sideboard answer to raffine a la ray of enfeeblement but it seems to miss too much to have more than two copies main deck.
Need some Slogurks to get back the lands. It’s a stupid good grindy combo to have Slogurk block and get back the channel lands to use to get back Slogurk to block and get back channel lands.
I am not saying that I've wasted some 20 rare mats on this, because I was planning on doing it anyway. But this deck has some 20% winrate on Bronze 4... I have 0 idea how you managed to beat anything with it.
41:30 why did you not counter the ability...if he needed the crab anyways just...counter the ability? Yeah he can go again later sure that's a reason but idk I might have countered that. B

As someone who's been playing since 1994, the reference to Llurgoyf as "like Tarmogoyf, but for creatures only" was almost physically painful.
No almost about it. It’s like the f**ker doesn’t read and know anything. The mental gymnastics the guy has to go through to speak is astounding.

Underrated comment right here.
Much abrew and budget magic are my favorite mtg content.
Probably more likely based on OG Lhurgoyf than Tarmagoyf, right?
Yeah I think this is less ‘tarmagoyf in standard’ and more ‘Lhurgoyf back in standard’
Yes, indeed
Isn't that what the title says? "Goyf in standard" lol referencing all past goyfs

I can't stop laughing every time he says it. It's like he's trying to say it with a bunch of marshmallows in his mouth. XD
Seth, first time long time, this is one of the hardest cards to pronounce. tip of the hat
The way Seth struggles to say Urborg Lhurgoyf quickly multiple times in a row in the deck tech is wonderful. Urburblurbuyf

As soon as I saw goyf in the spoiler I was ready. I think my deck will be fairly different but definitely got some good ideas watching this.
It's nice to see Boneyard Wurm get ironed out and fixed. He's here in spirit even if it's really a Goyf doing the work.
I really wish this card wasn't locked into Sultai by the kickers, it would be such a sweet upgrade to Boneyard Wurm in my Jarad EDH deck.
