- In 2016, Adventureland Resort in Altoona, Iowa would finally end their coaster drought after 20 years. Monster was designed by Gerstlauer Amusement Rides GmbH and would open to the public on June 4th 2016.
Monster opened as the first Infinify Coaster in the United States, and occupies the land that called home to the much beloved River Rapids Log Ride. Monster begins with a 133 foot vertical lift hill into a 101 degree first drop reaching speeds of up to 65 mph. The ride is known by enthusiasts as the king of "hangtime", with it's long drawn out inversions leaving guests dangling over the ground for many seconds at a time.
For Guests, Monster is the crowd favorite. With the ride drawing consistent lines of well over 30 minutes on multiple occasions ever during weekdays, though that can also be attributed to it's low capacity 8 passenger trains. If you ask nearly any thrill seeker in Iowa, most will say Monster is the best ride in the park.
Best Seat: Row 1, Seat 1 - The front provides the best view while on the ride, however the left side of train tends to feature more moments of sudden transitions. Though if you're looking for the most airtime, Row 2 does provide a noticeably better pop while diving back to the ground.
