- Woron was the last baby chimpanzee rescued by Tacugama before the Western chimpanzee (subspecies) was declared Sierra Leone's National Animal in 2018, becoming the first great ape in the world to be so recognized.
This segment was filmed at GLOBIO Programs Partner Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Sierra Leone. Visit globio.org/abo... to learn more about their amazing work rescuing, saving, and caring for chimpanzees, and their national education and conservation work.

All footage for this video was created before the Covid-19 pandemic forced new health & safety protocols. All footage was obtained through reputable, ethically-run wildlife sanctuaries dedicated to caring for their rescued primates and protecting their wild counterparts. Apes Like Us (under GLOBIO) and our partner programs in no way support the exploitation or trade of primates in any capacity (whether legal or illegal).
The sanctuary staff and caretakers shown in this video are experts at caring for these vulnerable, orphaned apes until they are strong enough to join larger primate families at these sanctuaries. Any human contact with these infants is for the babies' physical and mental benefit only.

They're the jems of jungle, have family life, emotions like human beings. When he removed and shown the rope and he murmured to him no more chain, how calm and maturely appreciating him! Omg, the way they cut, soon people that area will be orphaned. Thanks to recovering, rehabilitation teams who are treasure hunting the jems and reinstate humanity.
Thank you so much for your appreciation of great apes and for watching our channel.
"No more chains." Now THAT'S a statement that can be used for an campaign against the illegal pet trade worldwide!
Well said.....and so very true.

A lot of zoos keep
Them on chains it’s so disturbing
I’m so happy for him , I hope he gets the life he deserves
I can only cry for them, and hope for the best.
Beautiful 😍 thank you Hero’s for sharing 🙏. Be well sweet Woron 🙏.
Thank you for watching :)
It is sad how human greed and total lack of compassion will eventually cost hundreds of species. Thankfully due to sanctuaries like this some can be saved. Thank you for your critical work, passion and commitment.
thank you for being vegan 🌱 You are, aren't ya?
I love these local men and women who speak chimp to them and are brave enough to face off against brutal pigs who do this to our ape cousins.
would loved to have seen him totally free out of quarantine bless him. Thanks for all you do.
Amazing 😻 what this people do for this beautiful baby thank you God bless you always 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥲🥲
TY for rescuing the apes like us 🙂❤️
I am deaf and have no subtitles to look at but watching this video broke my heart big time,,the pure sadness in the chimp being led away from where he was tied up to,little food, little water, sun directly on him,how people can be so cruel to our wild animals. Thank you to all these beautiful people who dedicate their lives to free these magnificent apes. I hope the chimp l saw has the best life now and continues his life so much happier just as all these people who save a lot of apes/monkeys from their cruel lives. Thank you again people, you are worth your weight in gold. Absolutely fantastic for all l have seen with the apes, they deserve a happier and free life.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Tracy. Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comments. It really means a lot to us to hear from compassionate people like you.
If you use the the CC button (lower right) it should enable Closed Captioning to appear on the screen of the video so you can read the subtitles.
Thanks again!
Thank god these babies have people like you to help them though life
Bless these wonderful people for caring for our precious fellow apes!
All I can say is thank you for looking after our cousins.
thanks for your kind comment, Robert
I love them little guys!!!
Thank you all so much 😍😍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Looked like Woron was smiling after they removed his chains. These good people will surely be blessed by God. We thank you.
OMG! Thank you for taking him off that stupid rope!
My heart bleeds when I watch a video of a huge, beautiful tree gets cut down. It’s like watching a murder.
puuuuuh, the words "no more chains" from the keeper got me tears
Poor little baby. He poopoo'd when the guy took the rope around his neck and cried a lil when it was being cut with the knife... He must have been so scared at that moment, but hopefully he feels safer and happier every day from now on!
Thank you kind people
Thank you for watching.
I see more in those eyes than I do on a city street.
Continue helping the helpless ❤❤❤
Very docile for having such a bad life
Thank you.
Thank you for watching.
Keep up the great work. 🌟🌟🌟
The chimpanzee deserves to have a natural life in their home environment.
They need to Stop cutting down the forests
Well said. Thank you for your support.
What a cutie
Thank God you rescued them.🙏🏻🛐🙏🏻
Thank you for watching!
When the man showed Woron that the rope was off his neck you could see how much that man cared.
it's a tear-jerker - such compassion
God bless you❤
Now these are baby chimps, yes?? So precious ❤
Yes :) Thanks for watching!
Gratidão à todos os humanos que amam e protegem os animais !
I can't believe they didn't show Woron playing and being a chimp to end the video... Feel slightly cheated... I'll just have to imagine him running around and playing....
Sorry about that! We can't always stay at the sanctuaries to collect more footage. Check out Tacugama's website and social media profiles...you'll see Woron has grown into a healthy chimp :)
Respect for Animals respect respect!!!!!!❤
heck yes!
SHARE, SHARE, THANK U FOR THE VIDEO
Why is the right word to use..what enjoyment do these humans get from seeing ANY animal but a wild one like a chimp tied by chain or rope so they cannot walk or sometimes stand up properly..live in their own excrement and just sit there day in day out..these people disgust me. There is absolutely NO EXCUSE WHATSOEVER ..!! Whether they ' don't know any better ' is ridiculous ALL humans should have a conscience whete animal cruelty is concerned
Kimmarrie Van-Ever, oh they do know better, they just don't care.
Humans have lived with the idea that they are different than, and superior to, other animals for a long time. That kind of mindset is what leads to much of this type of abuse.
Awww, he was only a tiny baby
Poor thing. I hope he is happy for the rest of hos life Donate! Even if it's 5 bucks! It adds up! Never think a donation is too small! Volunteer locally and make a change! We are the few, the proud, and the strong! WE HELP INNOCENT LIFE NOW AND WE NEED TO BE ACTIVE!
No more chains,... that's god damn right.
Me too Ryan, and the little guy was hunched over facing the fence. Not knowing what was next, but knowing it didn't matter, there was nothing he could do about it anyway. But that was all about to change...
My Heart breaks 😪
God bless you and everyone works at this incredible place 🙏💖
Thanks for watching and your kind comments!
Get him some friends & family ❤❤❤
Yep! As soon as he had passed his health checks and quarantine period he began the integration process with other chimps in a more natural environment :)
We are given a beautiful world to live in..this is heaven. We are already here.heaven is a place on earth and mankind destroys everything and the animals.when will we learn.it will be too late.
It was later reported soon after this video was taken that it was discovered the Woron had multiple warrants for his arrest. He was said to have touched many other monkeys in inappropriate places.
I think you may have completely fabricated this story but thanks for watching! :')
🙏🙏😇😇😇😇😇
Was Woron a bonobo?
a chimp :)
Why do they do this to these precious babies. Ppl are sick in their heads to hurt animals.
Just a little baby with the eyes of an old dying man...look Up at the sky filled with lofty treetops with wonder and trying comprhension. When will his people ever achieve just that so deserved...
PERSON HOOD ?
Saw a video of a monkey that had been chained so long that it was starting to cut into the skin.
Absolutely devastating
WOULD LOVE THAT JOB VERY COOL PEOPLE DOING THAT TAKE CARE
People are so shortsighted by cutting down trees!!!
Even my neighborhood, here in Australia Victoria, they are cutting and cutting. The chainsaws never stop! Wildlife is dying!!!
My home is changing too. No more shade in the hot summer from my neighbors trees, because they cut them all down!
Lived here for over 40 years and my heart is breaking, seeing my friends the wild animals disapearing or starving with no homes, no highways to safely cross the roads or escape the neighbors cat or dog!
WHEN WILL PEOPLE WAKE UP?
At this stage of my 71 years, I am ashamed to belong to the human race! All I see around the world DESTRUCTION OF OUR NATURAL WORLD, IN EXCHANGE FOR SLEEK and cold concrete, suitable only for humans. Animals not wanted, not considered, not valued! They call it progress.
What humans do against nature, in the end they will suffer themselves!
Greed, the evil of our times!
We agree with you. Trees are part of the ecosystems that we ALL depend on to survive :(
Amém
🙏🏼free dem all 🙏🏼
🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
👍🙏👍
Disgusting treatment of such beautiful animals makes me mad.
There are millions of humans who use chains, whips, bullets, archs arrows against animals. Governments HAVE TO pass laws to ban those activities (hunting, rodeo, cock fights)
Defender of the nature
Humans are the animals 😢

Much love and respect for the people taking care of our threatened relatives.
It made me want to cry with sadness when I saw his little face and body as he came out of his cage but made me cry with happiness to know he is safe and cared for with a real future ahead of him 😁🙏
When he tells him no more chains it brought tears to my eyes thank God for people like this
❤❤❤🤗😥
Yep, that's when it hit me. Poor little fella.
yeah, no more chains, just a f**king cage
@@oldmanonamission8055 Hopefully after his months of quarantine and veterinary care there are some fun trees, protected and safe sanctuary freedom, and other chimpanzee's for him to play with, for the rest of his life :) Keeping him in a cage like a zoo animal, or circus animal, or "personal pet" situation, etc., would just be cruel.
You should thank the people rather than your favorite diety.
It’s so sad how people miss treat animals that are so intelligent
I agree 100%. What I have noticed about myself over this past decade when it comes to animals I have genuine emotions from deep inside like you have with your child, its a wonderful feeling. When I comes to most humans, not all I feel emotionally numb or annoyed.
Then I see the news and how we treat each other......smh
@@jamesblunt2014 Yep,when humans have no regard for their own kind, why would they give a shit about poor animals.
@@genxreactions I'd like to chain those cruel people up and see how they like it
It's a shame how all animals r treated
Its so depressing to see their homes destroyed. I can't imagine the trauma they go through. Thank you for what you do. I hope Woron is enjoying life now.
Poor, sweet baby. I teared up as he was walking from the cage to the rescue center. I was thinking he's probably never walked so far in his life and how frightened he must have been not knowing what was going to happen to him. But he was brave and walked like a big boy. I hope he's doing well these days. My heart breaks for all of the great apes who have been so badly treated and are now so endangered. We humans owe them so much more than what they have gotten from us. It's going to take eternity to try to make up for damage we've done.
Michelle Abbott, after reading your wonderful comment, there's nothing left for me to add.
I couldn’t of said it better myself.
Well said
You should check out faces of death. They kill and eat a monkey brain.
@@youtubesucks2575 thats fake
Dear little soul. He looks so scared and apprehensive! And that bloody freaking rope around his neck. Dear God, what kind of monsters could do this to a living, loving animal? Thank you and blessings to rescuers and caregivers. ❤️
And that rope was sooo tight..another few months and that would have been embedded in his neck..these people disgust me..he was being rescued but he didnt know that..you could see the fear in his face still..lets tie them up for yrs feed them rice live in their own excrement and lets see how they like it..an eye for an eye..#karma
The gentleman who cut the rope continued to reassure him there would be 'no more chains.' That was so tender and so caring; thank you, sir.
Because they grow up to be poop slinging psychopaths. Of course it’s going to be scared around a bunch of new people it doesn’t know
That caregiver gives off such caring vibes
Thank you to all at the sanctuary and rehabilitation centre, and especially mama Po, you all deserve a big medal for what you are all doing for the chimps. MAN is the beast here !! Thank you all ❤️🇬🇧
Just those few words NO MORE CHAINS boy that hit me i wont lie 😪😪 such powerful words for all animals captured and chained up.
Thank you for what you do for these chimps ❤
You and me both! I cried like a baby when he said it! What a hero!!!
I felt so happy and I cry went his said no more chain no more chain because he's now free ❤️🔗🐒
And he gently patted him as he said it..probably the first bit of kindness he'd ever been shown..
When Bala said to Woron "no more chains" I must admit that was the powerful moment I have ever watched.
Yes, at that moment I almost cried
@@MARTHA.Patito I did
I felt like Woron understood what Balance was saying.
Thanks for saving this beautiful fur baby..And all the other innocent apes your sanctuary saved..
Given his tragic background, it's surprising little Woron was brave enough to follow Bala, without resisting or pulling back on the rope. "Where am I going? What will happen to me next?" Poor little soul. Thank heaven for all of you who rescue and care for these precious babies.
OK made me cry! Thank you for the unbelievably important work you do and thank God for gentle Mama Po! She is an Angel on Earth!
The words of, “no more rope, no more chains” really hit me hard. This man and his fellow staff are doing everything they can to help these poor animals.
Monkeys/apes are a part of us humans development. We as human beings need to stop developing land where dense animal populations are. The governments of every country need to make this land untouchable to "man" to build or even produce agriculture on. Because trees and this vegetation is also helping with the eco system we also need this land to stay as it is so we have a good oxygen level.
And the mad thing is they share 98% of the same dna as us..
I love that man, the one who removed the rope from Woron's neck. I love that he talks to Woron, acknowledges him as a living being, treats him with respect.
No more chains, i cried, honestly. Love to all, thank you for Worons new life.💓👍🐾
Thank you for saving this Chimp cousin of ours! I could feel the rope around his neck and the relief he must have felt after the rescue. Thank you for protecting the Chimpanzees…
When are we going to stop being so in humane for God's sake what's the matter with man when he thinks mistreating animals for gain is acceptable
Bala. What a wonderful man who speaks to this poor small and fragile baby. « No more chains »
Thank you so much Sir, I love you for what you are doing with your heart and precious soul.
God bless you too dear Mama Po, what an Angel you are !
Thank you for your kind words. You may enjoy our podcast episode with Bala. You can listen here: talkingapes.org/posts/bala
It’s so sad how people treat these beautiful babies and all animals. They don’t deserve to be treated like this they deserve love and affection by their family members. Not being locked up and tortured. It’s bad enough they had to watch what they did to their families so they could take the babies. Thank you for rescuing these precious animals now they will know what it’s like to be a Chimpanzee.
How I'd love to hold them. Thank youuuu for rescuing them and let them free. Animals deserve all our love, we don't realize how lucky we are to share this planet with them.
Thank you all so much for saving this beautiful little baby now he will have his freedom and be well looked after may god bless you
HOW COULD ANYONE HURT OR CHAIN OR CAGE THESE PRECIOUS CREATURES.... JUST LOOK AT THOSE PRECIOUS FACES!!!???!!! SO PRECIOUS!!!!
Those are monsters who do that to any animal. The 🔥 is warming up in hell for them!
He is literally gliding as he went down the path as if hovering. I got chills
We have to reforest as well... Many animals, humans included, are meant to live in harmony with Nature!
😍😊😉😘😁🤗💖
chimpanzees do not live in harmony with nature and are extremely violent in adolescence and as adults
@@lewisgamer637 Humans can be extremely violent too; as can most animals. That doesn’t mean us animals are not living in harmony with nature.
