We've had many requests to try this steel... Roselli's UHC (Ultra Hight Carbon). A simple steel yet so pure it can be hardened up to 66-67 HRC (Edit note: Roselli changed HRC to 63! merchants just still list 66-67HRC). A hardness you normally only seen in super steels. So! How does this knife compare to super steel knives!? Find out in todays episode!

Little mistake in the conclusion price + name knife was not correctly shown. It;s the Roselli RW200L. Edit mistake
Also... seems like the knife is actually 63HRC. The merchants still list the old HRC. Roselli's website says 63HRC. Doesn't change the fact the edge retention is crazy though.

I was a member of the fencing team in my Engineering University -- so naturally I measured the hardness of fencing blades. They are Rockwell C63-64 !! That's right. Every single three foot long fencing blade is harder than almost all these premium knives you guys feature. I've been saving all the broken blade pieces to make a canister uper-knife

I have a carpenter and a regular length hunter in UHC. They are excellent but can be "chippy" when they hit heavier bone or seasoned hardwood knots. At that point I have to go to diamond stones. For maintenance stropping with good compound is all they have needed in ten years of carving use.

I have the Roselli Carpenter UHC, and I love this steel. I have been carving green wood with it for months and it still has the factory edge with stropping. 1.5% to 2% carbon content. 1095 is only 0.95% carbon content

    • @jessebond4221

@@jessebond4221 Yes, but in my application edge retention was what I wanted. This being a fantastic non "super steel" that can compete and beat most "super steels" in edge retention. Yes, UHC is extremely brittle, but know the limitations of your tools. It's not like TOPS Knives used UHC steel to make a crowbar of a knife, but a Finnish knife company making a fine cutting tool.

@XOI because I've used 3 different knives from roselli
5 inch leuku blade chipped badly & handle cracked.
      The leuku 150 handle cracked.
The long hunter UHC blade chipped after half hour.
Oh actually it's 4 blades I've reviewed because I've had the leuku 150 lamnia edition aswell & I sent that back as it had a fault with it.
So those are my experience with roselli knives they are over priced fail doing even the basic camp tasks which other knives I own which are half the price & some even less ran rings around roselli knives.
I've been using knives for over 25 years so I know wot I'm talking about & know wot makes a good knife.
The roselli I've tested & reviewed in past have all failed.
      I won't touch another one.
Wots your experience in using them?

    • @xoi9075
      @xoi9075 Год назад +2

@Lone Wanderer Bushcraft, Wild Camping & Reviews I have experience buying many wood handled knives I usually soak them in balistol for 4 days then heat it up and rub a bee wax I also use for my leather shoes. I had handles Crack before on knives I neglected or just got unlucky with the wood buy glue and a block of wood and make a new one.

    • @lonewandererbushcraftwildc6822
      @lonewandererbushcraftwildc6822 Год назад +2

@XOI the point is for the price you pay for a Roselli Knife you should not have to do anything to it.
      Apart from the usuall maintenance.
All roselli knife handles are already finished & has several layers of linseed applied to them before they leave the factory.
The fact that all 3 roselli knives have failed & 1 i had to send back with issues tells me they are over priced garbage.
I'm not the only one to report this either.
& the roselli guarantee they provide is false as they try & get out of paying out by keep saying its the users fault it failed so it's void.
Companies like esee knives put there money where there mouth is as they guarantee each & every one of there knives so no matter wot you do to it & how long you've had it they will replace it without question.
Buy a roselli leuku blade which is the strongest knife they do built for hard work.
& when it goes wrong & it will go wrong.
Try & send it back 🤣

My grandpa was a chef and he always told me that in order to prepare boar you have to wash meat for several hours with water and vinegar, then is best indicated for slow cooking styles, so it can lose some of that strong smell. If we’ll prepared is an amazing meat, a lot better than pork, but without the adequate treatment it taste like shit. Btw nice video and greetings from Italy 🇮🇹

I have a couple of Roselli knives in this steel, and they are not only beautiful, but awesome. I have one that has a sheath made out of the same handle material wood and leather which just makes it even more beautiful. I think what makes this comparable to super steels is that it's an ingot steel or more accurately, Wootz Steel. which if you think about it, melts the steel down to a molten state where you can add other things to it to make it stronger.... much in the same way authentic Damascus was made way way back in the day when swords were the primary battle weapon.

All my roselli knives came with a convex scandi, so i was very surprised you said yours came with a true scandi. My current roselli carpenter has a zero edge, mirror polished, convex scandi grind and it is the best carver i have used in my life.

I have the all around roselli axe and carpenter knife. The axe is one of my favorites and seems to be my go to axe. Just blows apart wood when splitting. The knife is also one of my favorites. Simple and functional. Kind of pricy for what you get though. The knife wood and axe wood need some more love when shaping.
But I was wondering about the handle, is it comfortable? You always comment on steel, but rarely on handle shape and feel. Or comparisons.

I have limited knowledge of steels but I believe that all high and ultra high quality steels would react identically to all Rosselli tests. Today's knife buyers are lucky because they can choose a quality steel from among many excellent steels. Apart from the steel, the anatomical handle, the length and the shape of the machete are equally important.

Around 200€? 😅 It is actually 450€ (well, it retails for that in Finland) because the knife is a special edition of Roselli’s Long Eräpuukko (I think they call it Long Hunting knife) with a most definitely non-standard sterling silver trimmed handle made of select curly birch. You had the info for Helle Tamahagane in the details shot. There is a regular version of that which retails around 250€ (IIRC), the handle in that is more plain (same great blade, though).

In Arkansas, on the lease I've hunted deer for close to 40 years , we have a large population of feral hogs that provide much good eating. The medium sized animals, livevweight between 30-60 #, are most prized for table fare! Significantly larger specimens, provide hams & shoulders which go to a small shop that custom sugar cures and smokes them! I have sworn for many years that, once one gets used to the wild ones, grocery store pork cuts are never the equal again...

Any chance you guys can do a video discussing the differences between some of the higher-end steels that are not very popular....Vanadis 4E, Vanadis 8, K390, Vanax Super Clean, etc? How do they compare to MagnaCut, Elmax, Cru-Wear, etc? In other words, I'm thinking about asking Dulo to make me a custom knife and I have no idea which steel to choose or why. There are some sites that are good at comparing the more popular steels, but it's hard to get a straight answer on these higher-end lesser known steels. Thanks!!!!

I don't dislike pork, but I haven't eaten it in a year. When it comes to meat I mostly eat chicken and turkey. I eat beef sometimes just not as much
