We've had many requests to try this steel... Roselli's UHC (Ultra Hight Carbon). A simple steel yet so pure it can be hardened up to 66-67 HRC (Edit note: Roselli changed HRC to 63! merchants just still list 66-67HRC). A hardness you normally only seen in super steels. So! How does this knife compare to super steel knives!? Find out in todays episode!

Little mistake in the conclusion price + name knife was not correctly shown. It;s the Roselli RW200L. Edit mistake
Also... seems like the knife is actually 63HRC. The merchants still list the old HRC. Roselli's website says 63HRC. Doesn't change the fact the edge retention is crazy though.
If you want to be honest Batoning is not for this knife.

@@tphvictims5101 no id not baton with the UHC but it surprised us that it could!
@@tphvictims5101 I think as long as you do it with care and some common sense that you would have no issues at all and by that I mean don't try to break the damn thing lol I mean treat it as if you only have one knife for the rest of your life and it will do anything that you need it to do hell the Neanderthals did it with rocks 🪨 lmao so if you can't baton some small twigs or branches to get a fire going without snapping the blade thwn you're doing something really wrong!
9:19 Guys I'm a hunter and trust me if I you cook wildboar salt is not enough seasoning!
By the way wildboar has a very tasty very delicious meat
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how Maarten can finally say 67 correctly and not 76. Bravo!
Hahahahahahahahahaha!
Now he just needs to work out 69 isnt with his boyfriend.
In Dutch you say it the other way round, so its an easy mistake, i do it all the time
@@ruanniemann2604 What now? How do numbers work in Dutch.
67 would be 7 and 60. 69 would be 9 and sixty. Its stupid but thats how we say numbers@@1diggers1
I was a member of the fencing team in my Engineering University -- so naturally I measured the hardness of fencing blades. They are Rockwell C63-64 !! That's right. Every single three foot long fencing blade is harder than almost all these premium knives you guys feature. I've been saving all the broken blade pieces to make a canister uper-knife
Thanks DBK! You guys are keeping me company while I'm working overnight.
Same here in France ! My car park feels less empty with the DBK boys 🏞️
I have a carpenter and a regular length hunter in UHC. They are excellent but can be "chippy" when they hit heavier bone or seasoned hardwood knots. At that point I have to go to diamond stones. For maintenance stropping with good compound is all they have needed in ten years of carving use.
Brand new viewer, and to be honest I don't really even own or like knives all that much, but I cant stop watching your videos, the chemistry and the good vibes just feel so good even if I have no idea what you are talking about
I have the Roselli Carpenter UHC, and I love this steel. I have been carving green wood with it for months and it still has the factory edge with stropping. 1.5% to 2% carbon content. 1095 is only 0.95% carbon content
Carbon isn't everything and UHC is prone to chipping where 1095 will just spring back
@@jessebond4221 Yes, but in my application edge retention was what I wanted. This being a fantastic non "super steel" that can compete and beat most "super steels" in edge retention. Yes, UHC is extremely brittle, but know the limitations of your tools. It's not like TOPS Knives used UHC steel to make a crowbar of a knife, but a Finnish knife company making a fine cutting tool.
Thanks for finally testing the Wootz steel from Roselli! I always suspected that it would hold an edge but knew it would not sustain abuse from the shock of being shot.
Roselli knives are rubbish see my comment above my friend 🙂
@@lonewandererbushcraftwildc6822 how could you say rubbish if the knives can cut through the knife you are probably holding(not UHC)
@XOI because I've used 3 different knives from roselli
5 inch leuku blade chipped badly & handle cracked.
The leuku 150 handle cracked.
The long hunter UHC blade chipped after half hour.
Oh actually it's 4 blades I've reviewed because I've had the leuku 150 lamnia edition aswell & I sent that back as it had a fault with it.
So those are my experience with roselli knives they are over priced fail doing even the basic camp tasks which other knives I own which are half the price & some even less ran rings around roselli knives.
I've been using knives for over 25 years so I know wot I'm talking about & know wot makes a good knife.
The roselli I've tested & reviewed in past have all failed.
I won't touch another one.
Wots your experience in using them?
@Lone Wanderer Bushcraft, Wild Camping & Reviews I have experience buying many wood handled knives I usually soak them in balistol for 4 days then heat it up and rub a bee wax I also use for my leather shoes. I had handles Crack before on knives I neglected or just got unlucky with the wood buy glue and a block of wood and make a new one.
@XOI the point is for the price you pay for a Roselli Knife you should not have to do anything to it.
Apart from the usuall maintenance.
All roselli knife handles are already finished & has several layers of linseed applied to them before they leave the factory.
The fact that all 3 roselli knives have failed & 1 i had to send back with issues tells me they are over priced garbage.
I'm not the only one to report this either.
& the roselli guarantee they provide is false as they try & get out of paying out by keep saying its the users fault it failed so it's void.
Companies like esee knives put there money where there mouth is as they guarantee each & every one of there knives so no matter wot you do to it & how long you've had it they will replace it without question.
Buy a roselli leuku blade which is the strongest knife they do built for hard work.
& when it goes wrong & it will go wrong.
Try & send it back 🤣
My grandpa was a chef and he always told me that in order to prepare boar you have to wash meat for several hours with water and vinegar, then is best indicated for slow cooking styles, so it can lose some of that strong smell. If we’ll prepared is an amazing meat, a lot better than pork, but without the adequate treatment it taste like shit. Btw nice video and greetings from Italy 🇮🇹
For a long time, I have been telling everyone who would listen that no one prepares boar like the Italians. Unfortunately, there are a lot of public places where no one wants to talk to me about boar.
In Spain hunters usually put boar and red deer meat in red wine to soften the meat and get the good flavour
However if its a male and you have hunted it in mating season it still has a very strong taste due to testosterone
Nice to see a roselli knife tested on the channel! CE on the discord server has been raving about them for a while
Nice investigation of the features and pitfalls of high hardness edges. Thanks for your work, guys!
I have the Roselli Bearclaw in Wootz. It is a brilliant carving knife. I plan on buying another Roselli one day.
So glad to see you review this knife. It’s been on my radar for more than a year. I’m still going to buy it even though you broke the darn thing.
Can we please get some more bark river videos? Myself and many others got there first one because of you guys. Yall convinced me I needed a 300$ knife which is way more than anything ive bought prior and thats not easy by any means. Love these videos either way but its sad you and virtuovice havent been talking about them very much at all. Maybe you have your reasons which i would love to hear but i wanted to say something. Take care yall Im looking forward to seeing you guys grow into the most well known knife content maker on the internet
Going to look into this knife it looks beautiful, nice work boys
Would love to see a review on the Roselli Heimo bushcraft knife!
You guys are awesome can't believe how far you will teast the knifes good to know the limits
Wow I like your sweater Maarten. Looks so cozey and good for winter
Today wore a warm thermal long sleeve under my hoodie.
Thank you DBK for this greatest vidéo, as usual ! It was an incredible knive 🤪 Congrulations from Belgium.
Go for New videos guys 🤩
I've been watching you guys for about 5 or 6 years now and am always excited to see you upload keep up the excellent work hope a rockstead is under your Christmas trees this year
Always look forward to seeing you guys!!
Well done gentlemen, youve managed to do everything with that knife other than what it waa actually designed for, kudos!
I have a couple of Roselli knives in this steel, and they are not only beautiful, but awesome. I have one that has a sheath made out of the same handle material wood and leather which just makes it even more beautiful. I think what makes this comparable to super steels is that it's an ingot steel or more accurately, Wootz Steel. which if you think about it, melts the steel down to a molten state where you can add other things to it to make it stronger.... much in the same way authentic Damascus was made way way back in the day when swords were the primary battle weapon.
Excellent taste in air guns been using a wildcat with thermal for a few years now 👍
Man I saw one of these on ebay a while back and I knew nothing about them so I looked it up and they make a variety of different knives and they also have a few different steels the "UHC" and the "WOOTZ-UHC" and one other if I remember correctly but they're all seemingly amazing knives and a great value for the prices they ask...
😭 That poor knife. It was so beautiful. Well, at least you can sell the silver on the bolsters to get something back 😅
Lmao 20 euros
Roselli’s UHC is my all time favourite steel in forest. Easy to sharpen, takes extremely angry edge and stays sharp for ages. I was fortunate enough to buy my UHC knives when they were much cheaper than today. The factory edge and even bevels can be less than optimal.
That knife is the Roselli RW200LS, beautiful curly birch handle and silver bolster and end cap. The RW200L I think has the same blade but much simpler handle and fittings. Either way, great review and a really great knife.
Really Nice
🙏Thanks
Hey guys. I have been following this channel for over 5 years. But i have owned roselli knives for 15 years. I have shattered one, so yeah they are definitely not good as all purpose knives. All my roselli knives came with a convex scandi, so i was very surprised you said yours came with a true scandi. My current roselli carpenter has a zero edge, mirror polished, convex scandi grind and it is the best carver i have used in my life.
The laugh at the air rifle was worth the whole video.
I have the all around roselli axe and carpenter knife. The axe is one of my favorites and seems to be my go to axe. Just blows apart wood when splitting. The knife is also one of my favorites. Simple and functional. Kind of pricy for what you get though. The knife wood and axe wood need some more love when shaping.
But I was wondering about the handle, is it comfortable? You always comment on steel, but rarely on handle shape and feel. Or comparisons.
It just shows you two are definitely lunatics when it comes to pushing or punishing the limits for which you deserve the upmost respect and support. Have a cracking day lads and stay safe and healthy lads🫵🏻👍🏼😘
Dankeschön das ihr das Messer getestet habt ich hab solange darauf gewartet.
Finally you guys did the UHC
Hey, you should cook the meat only when the fire is almost charcoal or ember, that way there won't be any flames to burn it, also it's going to be more hot soo you can get a beautiful crust.
Great video!
Thanks for all the fun.
definitely! But we're always fighting time when filming hahaha!
Hey guys! You convinced me that Magnacut is the way to go. Couldn't you rate different magnacut knives in an episode? It's hard to find all the different magnacut knives that exist by googling it. Gs0 5.1 seems like the top contender performance wise.
Keeping me happy in these cold weeks, tnx
Thank you for doing an H. Roselli review!
putting that steel sandwiched between two pieces of mild steel would protect the blade a bit sort of like how a Japanese swords are made the good ones have very hard brittle steel with milder steel protecting it.
From Hunter to Grandfather ...in one Shot! 😅🤣😂
Id like to see you guys test CPM REX 121
He got Mikkie back for keeping the NL-5 secret from a couple years ago.
Another great video, thank you for showing us what we can expect from 14c28n. I personally did not know that you could get such great performance from this steel. Awesome video.
I don't think this is 14C28N, is it? 14C28N is stainless
I have limited knowledge of steels but I believe that all high and ultra high quality steels would react identically to all Rosselli tests. Today's knife buyers are lucky because they can choose a quality steel from among many excellent steels. Apart from the steel, the anatomical handle, the length and the shape of the machete are equally important.
Great vid guys.....boar is man's food, if you're not keen just add a sauce, good sustainable, organic meat.
Lamnia were selling those blades as blanks for about €$£60 not long ago....wish I'd bought one now.
Great demo! Love the knife
One trick I learned for cooking game meat was soaking or cooking it in Lipton Onion Soup mix to take out some of the gaminess.
I love my zippo, haven't used it In awhile need to get a flint
I got the mbk old gaurd wharny in San mai zdp-189 with 67 hrc and I’ve used it for months and still haven’t sharpened it. Only stropped!
"That's not just a little bit harder. That's like me going to university." 😂😂😂😂😂
Hi DBk! Please do a review of the Katsu Knives Folding Axe!!
And thank you for such a great year!
ZIPPO BABY! Made right here just down the road in Pennsylvania U.S.A.
You're great guys! That's it. Thank you.
I've just barely sub'd. Sry guys but I've been a fan of the videos for a while. Thanks for your work, it has definitely helped me in how I pick knives to buy. And I have learned a lot. Thank you again.
I'd love to see them test out one of the newer buck 119 or 120 in either D2 or S35VN. or even revisit the Kabar in D2
When Mikkie was bummed that the knife broke and it was getting to the point in the video where mentioning a giveaway was imminent, I was waiting for him to say "Reverse giveaway, if you win you get to buy us another copy of this knife!"
For game meat, always try to marinade it.
Orange juice
Salt brines
Mandarin sauceces all help to negate the negative tastes of wild game.
A good knife and a good knife test. Greatings from Germany. Have a nice Advent.
Great episode and an amazing knife.
Cooking part is always very welcomed. :)
I was totally expecting at the end ,... and we are giving away the Rosella rw200l with a pic of the shattered knife!🤣😂🤣 That was a beautiful knife and was a solid performer, although I wish being high carbon it would throw a better spark.
Thanks for the info
That one steak has a truffle flavour, really Earthy!🤭😆Great review. Thanks guys.
Fellas soak the meat in salted water for a couple hours then pat dry and grill. It removes the gamyness.
Around 200€? 😅 It is actually 450€ (well, it retails for that in Finland) because the knife is a special edition of Roselli’s Long Eräpuukko (I think they call it Long Hunting knife) with a most definitely non-standard sterling silver trimmed handle made of select curly birch. You had the info for Helle Tamahagane in the details shot. There is a regular version of that which retails around 250€ (IIRC), the handle in that is more plain (same great blade, though).
I have the regular length version of that knife, really beautiful with the curly birch and silver ferrules. I could easily choose that for processing large game, or for most other wilderness activities. Oh and yes, if I needed to split wood I would use a small axe.
I’d have definitely bought a zippo if they were reasonably priced but that’s steep guys, still love the content 👍✌️
Thank you guys, well done👍✌️😎
thank you too my friend!
I was going to ask how easy it was to resharpen being that high an hrc but there isn't much left to sharpen.
i've had another UHC knife that just wasnt good for testing but I did resharpen that a few times and it was not too bad!
Awesome video been thinking about getting one of those . Would like to purchase 2 of your lighters how can I get one
Oh well Now you have a unique rosselli seax anniversary addition
Hey Lads, have ya seen the zippo that have dual flame? Soft flame like a BIC and also torch? I use one for pipes and cigars.
Can you review tops knives .170 machete
Thankfully, my wife's boyfriend extended my screen time just so I can watch this!! So excited!
In the aspect of fire steel scraping, couldn't you just run the spin on a belt sander to sharpen it? That would work no? Also, could it chop?
Finally! Been waiting for this :) I have the full tang version
Would love to see you guys review the Fox Trapper FX-132 MGT knife!! Please, please, please!???
Im in with love that handle
Thanks guys for always valuable and entertaining content.
Coul you please make a video about the Fox knives FX 605 flat grind
You should see the knife big brown bear made that’s 66hrc 52100
In Arkansas, on the lease I've hunted deer for close to 40 years , we have a large population of feral hogs that provide much good eating. The medium sized animals, livevweight between 30-60 #, are most prized for table fare! Significantly larger specimens, provide hams & shoulders which go to a small shop that custom sugar cures and smokes them! I have sworn for many years that, once one gets used to the wild ones, grocery store pork cuts are never the equal again...
10/10 Zippo edit :D old school DBK vibes :P
Greatings from Munich „ Bavaria“ 💪🏼👍🏼😎
Zippo, awesome skit!!! Thank you!!!😘❤️🤪 Heartbreaking that knife 💔
You should have gotten the puukko version. A proper puukko that is WAY smaller
Cool video thanks.
That was awesome guy!!
You and that horse was just wrong 😂
Any chance you guys can do a video discussing the differences between some of the higher-end steels that are not very popular....Vanadis 4E, Vanadis 8, K390, Vanax Super Clean, etc? How do they compare to MagnaCut, Elmax, Cru-Wear, etc? In other words, I'm thinking about asking Dulo to make me a custom knife and I have no idea which steel to choose or why. There are some sites that are good at comparing the more popular steels, but it's hard to get a straight answer on these higher-end lesser known steels. Thanks!!!!
I’ve got Covid and feel like shit but French kissing a blowup horse cracked me up really hard👍🏻😂
The best i can do is 64. 67 is crazy brittle.
You guys should review a Northmen knife!!!! Their axe was great!!! In particular, Northlander Forest Knife. M390. Curly Birch
I have been looking at their knives, but have seen no reviews and not much info on them
When you said the wild boar is expensive, I knew you were gonna drop it on the ground 😄
I don't dislike pork, but I haven't eaten it in a year. When it comes to meat I mostly eat chicken and turkey. I eat beef sometimes just not as much
That's amazing knife
roselli knives are awesome. got me 2 many
Anyone else just waiting for them to review the APO-2
If your are gonna grill wild game, season it before you put it on the grill and give it lots of butter. Eat it as rare as you can take it.
I can't wait until you guys see how hard rex 121 can get. 😂
Love your channel! Please please review a spartan blades horkos
So it's the Roselli RW200L and the steel is 14C28N at 63 HRC?
