Dogs do not sweat through their paws, no idea where you got that from but dogs "sweat" through their mouths causing evaporative cooling, hence them panting which further helps accelerate the cooling effect.

This is unprecedented. To all the idiots saying ‘oh snowflake Britain, this used to be called nice weather’ etc….there is a huge difference between 30c and 40c. It’s never been this hot, ever. Once the air temperature gets above your body temperature, the health risks are massively increased. Not to mention infrastructure/potential power issues. In a country with limited AC and homes insulated to keep warm, it’s a very dangerous mix to have for 2 days straight.
@@glennpowell3444 It makes no difference how you phrase it. 25% hotter than 30 degrees is 37.5 degrees, not 40 degrees. I think the author is looking at the percentage difference after they made the calculation rather than before: 10 degrees warmer than 30 degrees is 25% of 40 degrees.

Its important to remember electrolytes, drinking water alone won't keep you hydrated. Drinking too much though will cause you to dilute your sodium levels too much and can cause hyponatremia which is just as bad. Shade is your friend.
If you can, put shades on the OUTSIDE of your windows. This blocks 80% of heat gain, but curtains and blinds only stop 30%. Tape old sheets or newspaper to the outside of any windows which let Sun in.
So I guess most people will go to the beach 🤣🤣🤣 I'll be at home in the dark with a fan with a lot of water and maybe taking some showers with my clothes on !
I know.. all my pets are down stairs in one room that me and my parenter have adapted into the "cool" room we have 6 different pets that all require different things but the temperature 🌡 is the same the only pets that haven't been moved are the geckos 😂 they are loving life right basking in the heat 😂. But the chinchilla, bunny and hamsters are loving the cool room with the portable air conditioning unit we got last year. Nearly lost poor Tom the chinchilla to last years heat wave so when we could we snagged one off of Facebook market place. They really should mention about pets.. i saw a couple at pub sat in the sun with a very long hair floofy dog no water... and it was 30° the dog was doing everything it could to get into the shade... i asked the bar man if he could take a bowl of water to the dog and he did. The couple didn't seem too impressed tho.. that dog should have stayed home 😞

Living in Australia, now you know how we have summer, 48 degrees in 2020, 2018, 2019, plus a week and a half of 35s in 2012! Eat watery fruits and veggies, salads. Eat as healthy as possible, to beat the heat. Sun screen is ok but cover up. Skin cancer kills here in Australia! But right now in Victoria Australia it's cold and 10 degrees, something were not really used too. UK people are very strong. Hold on, because I pray much cooler, raining weather on the way for you. If it gets very hot in the evening, have a ice cold shower before bed, use wet towels, clothes to lie in bed. Keep fresh water out for pets, shower them too! Keep fresh water for dogs, other pets in the cafes, restaurants, too.

That is dangerously unbearable heat. Walking a hundred yards will leave you soaked with sweat. 10 minutes outdoors in swim wear you will burn badly. Nights very difficult to sleep. Apart from that.....
I hate to break it to you guys but this is by no means normal. I hope now everyone can see the true effects of global warming and climate change. We have to do something. On bbc weather it says on London Heathrow airport it could be 40C-41C so London Heathrow may have the highest temperature i predict the hottest Scottish temperature was 32.7C
BBC are usually 1 or 2c lower the Heathrow Northolt suburbs have more of an urban heat island effect so expect them to be at least 42c, shame the metoffice doesn't have weather stations there just at the airports which are cooler.

I can see people going on their Summer holidays to Orkney, Shetland, Iceland and Lapland (Norway/Sweden/Finland) in a couple of decades time if this extreme heat becomes normal in our summer rather than going to Spain and Portugal to escape the hot weather. It will probably be much more affordable to go to places like Iceland as its climate will become more temperate and they will be able to produce more of their own food but the downside to this their beautiful glaciers will be disappearing!!!

A 'rough' way is,.. from C to F: Double it and add 30,.. so,. 24C = 48C + 30 = 78F. So, 40C (80C) + 30 = 120F.
Well that's completely off. Besides, 80+30 is 110 lol.

Yes, & NEVER, EVER leave them in a car!!! Even at “normal” temperatures! Even walking on grass, it will be too hot. Dogs could die.

Around 2017 or 18 I photographed the outdoor thermometer in Cornwall clocking 40, it was so hot that the digital screen got damaged!

This was the last Summer we had,Was not as hot as 2018 Summer,Still hot enough,That more likely was the second hottest Summer on Record,I remember one day in 2022,Hottest day was 64 degrees,I went out in it for a little while,Just find out how it feels being in hot weather like that,Felt like being in a massive oven,Keept in the shade,Had plenty of iced cold drinks as well,Then went back home again
It's hotter in Asian countries they can cope, used to it, and in Africa and US , but many hot summer in Europe before it will elapse. Get use to it.
